Page 65 of Where We Met

"Look at you," I say as I walk up to her, gently lifting her feet and placing them on my lap after sitting. "Are you the dog whisperer?"

She smiles. "It's like heaven out here. The trees, the breeze from the fan, the doggies."

I look over at her, wishing I could lean down and kiss her lips.

"Are you hungry for lunch?"

"I could eat."

"I can order something or make something. I'll need to go grocery shopping first. There's no food in the house."

Her eyes light up with excitement. "I'll go grocery shopping with you."

I lift an eyebrow at her. "You seem excited about that."

"I love grocery shopping," she says. She claps her hands as she sits up, the dogs hopping off her to allow her the room to move. "Let's go."

We get to the store and she is already several steps ahead of me pushing the shopping cart. I take a few extra-long strides to catch up with her.

"I'm gonna guess with your little speech last night about paying for your guests that you won't let me pitch in on this."

"You are correct," I tell her.

"You're going to regret that. I'm like a kid in a candy store at the grocery store."

"Have at it, babe."

I follow her as we make our way through the produce, stopping at the peaches to test a few.

"Oh, yeah," she moans. "These are perfect. Peaches are starting to come back in season."

I come up behind her and lean over her shoulder. "Must you moan like that," I whisper in her ear. "It's distracting."

"But," she holds up her peach, "feel it. It's perfect. Soft and ripe. I bet it's so juicy."

I growl. "You don't realize what you're saying right now."

She looks over her shoulder and I see the moment it clicks. "Oh, you're gross. Get your mind out of the gutter."

I chuckle behind her. "I can't help it. The sexiest woman I've ever met is feeling peaches while she moans and talks about their juices."

The rest of the trip is filled with more of the same—playful banter and plenty of laughs. It's the most fun I've ever had at the grocery store. I thought being in Italy with Savannah was dangerous. Turns out, doing everyday things with her here in Cleveland is more dangerous for my heart. It's been a day and I already know my feelings for her are growing.

Chapter Twenty-One

Savannah

"Okay, layitonme. How many hot Italian men did you meet out there?" Shannon asks over her coffee cup.

We all agreed to meet at the coffee shop on campus before class. I haven't even taken my first sip before Shannon goes straight for the hot Italians.

I laugh. "It was actually a lot of time spent on the family farm. Although, their son, Giovanni, was quite the looker."

"Shut up. Did you sleep with him?" she asks.

All three girls are looking at me wide-eyed.

"No! I couldn't do that. Luke…Professor Luke was there to win them over for business. I think that would be like a conflict of interest or something."
