I didn’t bother to look over at the door when it creaked open. It was probably just Bailey again with her stupid sunshine smile. She left this morning wearing hot pink pants. I just… I could not. The girl was clearly a lost cause.

“Naomi?”

Jaz?

I looked over to see Jaz walking in with her brows knit. Hadn’t she ever heard of waxing? Five minutes and a pair of tweezers would shape those things right up. What was she doing here anyway?

“Are you okay?”

“Of course, I am,” I grumbled while straightening my shoulders. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You’re laying in bed, in your pajamas,” she pointed out. “At three in the afternoon.”

The one blonde hair in her now arched brow was really starting to annoy me. Why hadn’t she plucked that out yet?

“So?” I hissed at her. “Is there something wrong with staying in bed all day?”

“For you,” her eyes widened as she tilted her head. “Yeah.”

Just because she thought she knew me, didn’t mean she did. Sometimes a girl just wanted to stay in bed for two days.

I waved my hand, sluffing off her comment, and said, “I assume you came for a reason?”

“Chase is coming back to the clubhouse today.”

That made me sit up straighter. “He’s back?”

“I wouldn’t say that.” She blew out a huff of air. “And I wouldn’t suggest you go see him either.”

That was ridiculous. Chase was mine. Of course, I was going to go see him.

“Naomi, I’m serious,” Jaz warned, to which I rolled my eyes. “He’s just going to hurt you.”

“Luckily for me, I’m not easily hurt.”

Jaz swung her eyes around the room. “You sure about that?”

Admittedly, it was a tad disorganized, and there may have been a few piles of clothes on the floor, but that didn’t mean anything.

“That’s Bailey,” I lied.

Apparently, Jaz saw through my bluff because she walked over, grabbed my hands, and sat down on the bed.

“How long have you been holed up in here?”

“It’s my room,” I pointed out.

A girl could spend as much time as she wanted in her room.

“Have you heard the story about the scorpion and the frog?”

Was that a trick question? Why would I know some story about gross animals?

Jaz rolled her eyes and sighed. “Okay, so there was this scorpion who was looking for a way across a lake when he saw a frog.”

I sat back and eyed Jaz, wondering why we were talking about this. Did she smoke something before coming here?

“He asked the frog to give him a ride across the lake.”
