“I am notscrewinganyone. And she’s definitelynota groupie.”

“Ha!” He jabbed a finger at me. “I knew it! You’re hooking up with some pussy.”

Anger boiled up my throat in a choking fire. “First of all, don’t everevercall her that. Second, the fuck, man? I told you I’m not fucking her.”

“Yet,” he countered, ignoring everything else I’d said.

Fair point to my brother, not that I’d tell him.

“And third,” I went on refusing to indulge his one-word statement. “She’s Marley’s sister. So shut the fuck up.”

“Marley’s sister?” he hissed, looking around as if the dragon herself would descend on him. “Are you fucking stupid?”

“No. Well, maybe. Her sister’s not a fan or a groupie or whatever. She knows about us but doesn’tknowus. She thinks I’m with the road crew.”

Stone stared at me. “You’re an idiot.”

“Probably.”

“And what are you going to do when she finds out? What isshegoing to do? Because shewillfind out.”

I shook my head. “I don’t know. Hopefully, I’ll figure out how to tell her and find a good opening for an explanation tonight.”

And hopefully, she wouldn’t be so pissed and hurt she’d leave me stranded on the side of the road. Or worse, call her older sister who would murder me. If I hurt Sky, though, I’d just go ahead and give Marley the gun.

I saw you in a dream

My worries evaporated when I left the restricted area and saw Sky’s ridiculously conspicuous hot pink bug idling there, waiting for me. As I slid into the passenger seat, I vowed that someday I’d be the one driving herorwe’d have a driver while we made out in the back seat.

“Hi,” she said then took me by surprise, leaning in as soon as I got into the car and hooking her arm around my neck as she pulled me toward her and kissed me.

“Hey, beautiful girl,” I said against her lips, fighting the urge to deepen the kiss to an inappropriate level right here where anyone could see us. I didn’t need witnesses to the wicked things I wanted to do to my Sky.

“Ready for the picnic?” she asked.

“Yeah. Where are we going?”

“The lake.”

“Where the fireworks are?”

“Sort of, but no,” she said. “We won’t be near the crowd. C’mon… It’s like you don’t know me at all after all these hours.”

“My bad. Sorry. You’re right. I know better.”

“We’ll be able to see the fireworks, though. It’ll be like our own private show.”

“Honestly, I don’t care as long as I’m with you.”

“Same,” she agreed. “Okay, so it’ll take a few minutes to get where we’re going. Just trust me that I’m not driving you to your doom.”

“Oh, was I supposed to worry? I’d make a terrible kidnap victim. I was just thinking about how beautiful you are. I love your hair braided like that.”

“Yeah?” Her fingers ran over the long tail that hung over her shoulder.
