“It would.” I lick across the seam of her mouth. “Especially because then I’d have to kill them for it.”
“You have quite the fondness for murder.”
“If you think that’s bad, you’d be scared of my fondness for you.” Sliding my hand to the back of her head, her hair splayed through my fingers, I capture her lips, kissing her with maddening fury.
As I reluctantly pull back, my forehead drops over hers. “We should probably go before we never leave.”
“Probably.” She kisses me again, and I let out a growl, tugging her head back.
“Behave.”
I like this side of her. Want more of it.
“I’ll try.” Her cheeks are flushed, pink lipstick ruined, but it doesn’t look as though she cares.
Taking her hand, I lead her all the way down the rest of the way, helping her into the SUV while saying a silent prayer that I don’t get tempted to rip her dress to shreds before we’ve even had our night out. I mutter a curse as I readjust myself in my slacks before coming around to the driver’s side. Getting in, I take us on the road. Her leg bounces, her shy glances making me want to kiss the holy hell out of her. My palm drops to the top of her leg, wanting to touch her any way I can.
She clears her throat. “So, I was thinking of signing Fia up for preschool, maybe three days a week.”
Making a right, I look over at her before my eyes return to the road. “That’s a good idea. Adora is in one. We can send her there.”
“Oh, that would be a lot of fun for her. I think she’s already decided Adora is her BFF.”
“They’re family. No one is closer to us than that.”
Her face goes downcast. Fuck. She’s probably thinking about that piece-of-shit father of hers, and I use that term loosely.
“Hey, my family is your family now. You know that, right?”
Her tear-filled eyes land on mine as she nods. “I love your family.”
Love.
Until this moment, I didn’t realize how much I wanted to hear her tell me she loves me too.
“They love you too, babe.”
“Speaking of my family…” Her voice lowers, and my pulse kicks up, unsure if I’m gonna like where this is going. She clears her throat. “So, Julius texted me yesterday wanting to grab lunch, and I want to go.”
I consider it. I could say no, but that would make me a shit husband, and I really don’t wanna be a shit husband. But I don’t like that family. I don’t care how nice her brother was. Though I know how much she wants to connect to the only family she has. I can’t get in her way.
“Okay.”
“Really?” Surprise marks her features.
“Yeah. I can fly you there, but I’ll be coming with you.”
“Of course.” She lowers a palm to my bicep. “I want you with me.”
When she smiles big and bright, I know I made the right decision.
“Also…” she adds. “I was talking to my friends today, and they want to come over this weekend. Would that be okay?”
“Of course. It’s a good idea. I think it’s time I met Emily anyway. Don’t you?” I let out a laugh.
She grabs my hand and drops her head on my shoulder. “Thank you.”
Kissing the top of her head, I squeeze her thigh tighter. “Anything for you, baby.”
