Reed’s eyes glow gold, and I frowned as others filled my small little lab.
“Who’s that?”
“Kyle is one of the men who we couldn’t find after the general was killed.”
“As in, the general who helped make the serum trying to make their own shifters?”
Kaylee’s hand slid into mine. “One and the same. Kyle lured Spencer down here for some reason.”
“To get you down here?” Riaz asked, frowning. “Or at least, one of the Redwoods. The Talons? You’re all practically one big Pack up there. He tried to lure you guys down here for a reason.”
“Revenge?” I asked, frowning.
“Maybe, or maybe he’s lost his god damn mind,” Parker growled. “Either way, we have his name, we have where he is, and we’re going to find him.”
“I have some good news,” I put in, clearing my throat as the weight of an Alpha and dominant wolves leveled me.
I didn’t bow down, though I did lower my gaze, just in case. “Whatever it is, it isn’t contagious. It took me a while to finish this test, but these bites? It’s trying to make its own wolf as the original wolves did back in that story Kaylee told me. But it’s not working. They can’t create their own wolves. They can just kill. Not that there’s anythingjustabout killing.”
“So that black tar crap isn’t contagious?” Brendan asked, frowning as he moved forward.
“Really.”
Kaylee frowned. “That’s good to hear, but he’s still killing people out there.”
Riaz shook his head. “Trying to form an army or revenge or something.”
“And we’re going to have to stop it,” Riaz growled.
“Damn straight we are,” Riaz growled.
Dean ran into the room just then, seemingly surprised so many people were in my lab.
“What is it?” Riaz asked.
“Seven men, all dressed in black, tranq guns at the ready. They’re at the edge of the wards. And my senses are tingling. Something’s out there.”
Kaylee cursed. “The mutant. It’s here, and we’re going to have to take it down.”
“All of us, together,” Riaz said, his voice a growl.
I picked up my knife, spun it in my hands. “I can fight like this. I think I’m going to need training how to fight the other way.”
Reed’s eyes glowed gold. “We’ve got you. Up in the Redwoods.”
Riaz narrowed his eyes. “Since you are a Redwood, that would make sense. We can talk about it later.”
Reed and Riaz met gazes before they both broke the connection, and we made our way outside.
Kaylee was at my side, and I frowned. “What is it?” I asked.
“Nothing but dominance games, but be careful. Do you understand me?”
“Of course, I’m going to be careful. You will do the same.” It was an order, and she didn’t seem to mind.
“No, stay at my side. You can fight with a knife, sure, but I’m not going to let you get hurt.”
“And I’m not going to let you either.” I tugged her arm, then crushed my mouth to hers. She growled against me but didn’t push me away.
