“Yes, it is.”

“Good. I wasn’t joking when I said I didn’t want to spend another night without you. Since I don’t have a house where I can live here in Colorado, we can use this cabin, or I can move in,” he says and pauses to gauge my reaction. “If you want to have me around the house,” he jokes, and I crack a smile. “And then, we can take it from there. What say you?”

“Sounds good.”

My smile is a little off, and he notices it.

“What is it, Elizabeth?”

“Nothing.”

He leans forward, picks up our drinks, and hands me mine.

“I’m listening,” he says before taking a sip.

Again, is this the moment to tell him about my findings?

Nah, probably not.

I truly don’t want to ruin this evening.

“What happens to Pam?” I ask, remembering about the beautiful woman keeping him company at events.

“Pam no longer works for me,” he says, and my eyebrows tilt in surprise.

“Seriously?”

He nods.

“What happened?”

He shrugs a shoulder.

“There was no point in trying to keep her in my circle. I had no desire to pretend I was with her. So I decided to let her go.”

“When did it happen?”

“When you came to visit me in New York?”

“A while back?”

“A while back…” he says, amused.

I slap his arm jokingly.

“You should’ve told me.”

He laughs.

“Why?”

“Because.”

“Why, Elizabeth?”

“It was important.”

“You know now.”
