“See what?”
“Your knee.”
My head flinches back slightly at the request, but I acquiesce and lift the leg of my leggings, grimacing as I do. He bends over and laughs.
“Come on, Hope. That little scratch? With the way you were flinching I thought your leg was about to fall off.
Okay, I’ve had enough. “Thanks, Chase. Always good to see you, but I’ve got to run now.”
“No, wait,” he pleads. “Sorry, I seem to keep sticking my foot in my mouth.”
“Yup. Seems like some things never change.”
Chase tilts his head. “And some things do. I’ll see you around, Hope.”
He gives me a two-finger salute off the side of his head and walks away.
The nerve of that man!I scream in my mind while grinding my teeth so hard the sound makes a person walking by stop and look at me to see if I’m the source. This was like a bad movie. Of all the stores, in all the cities, in all the aisles...he had to walk into mine.
