I turned to my left to look at my partner in crime.

Feliz just stared blankly my way as he lay on his back, wagging his tail, wanting belly rubs. Then he barked.

“Yeah,” I grumbled. “My thoughts exactly.”

CHAPTER37

Yara

Whenever a message showed up from Alex, butterflies appeared, too. It was simple conversations, but each one felt important.

Alex

You won’t believe what’s happening right now.

I smiled down at my phone seeing his name appear.

Yara

Do tell.

Seconds later, I received a picture of Feliz sitting on the couch with Alex. Sure, he was on the other half of said couch, but…he was there. Sleeping. Not barking his head off.

Yara

This is amazing!

Alex

Worthy of celebration.

Yara

One hundred percent.

Alex

I don’t work tomorrow. Maybe we could celebrate together by trying a different dog park with Feliz and Cocoa in Chicago? If you’re not busy, of course.

I smiled at his message. Then right after, another came through.

Alex

If you’re busy, it’s fine. That was a stupid idea. Ignore it.

I bit my bottom lip.

Yara

Meet me at my apartment at six?

Alex

See you then.

Alex sent me a photograph.
