I almost lunge up from my seat to straighten it, my OCD getting the best of me.
A bunch of colorful binders on the upper shelf was placed haphazardly. Some of them are placed with their spine inward!
There is a laptop on his glass desk. I wonder how would he look like switching from the desk in front of him to the shelf desk at his back. Who needs two desks to work anyway?
I hear him enter and watch him cross the room to his black chair.
I am grateful for his intervention. One more second of staring at his workstation and I might drive myself nuts.
He takes a seat and gets comfortable. Comfortable as in spreading his strong thighs and leaning against the chair until it’s slanting.
The glass countertop of his desk is giving me a clear view of his stretched long legs.
His posture and his expression are so smug like he is the boss.
Well, technically he is as this is his zone. His department.
But the least he could do is act in a courteous manner. But then doing so would defeat his purpose of bugging me, wouldn’t it?
“Hannah.”
I blink out of my stupor when he utters my name.
“As much as I would love to witness a staring contest between you and my desk, I am afraid I don’t have all day.”
My jaw is clenched tight to the point of pain.
This asshole! I am tempted to flip him the bird and walk out of here. But that won’t do.
First, because it is juvenile, and second, I wouldn’t get the answers I am looking for.
Now that I am here, leaving without asking him about the meeting would be stupid.
“I have a few questions. Answer them and you may return to ruining someone else’s day.”
Chapter Five
He grins darkly at that. If my dig at him did any damage to his mood, he is excellent at hiding it.
He turns his wheeled chair to the side and props one hand on the cabinet desk. Throwing one leg over the other, he regards me with his full attention.
“By all means, go ahead, princess,” Raleigh says in a cutting tone.
Dad’s gentle gray eyes flash in my mind, pulling me deep into my memory.
“Where is she?” Daddy’s mellow voice reaches me.
I cover my mouth with my hand to suppress the giggle. I am hiding behind a couch in his walk-in closet.
Today’s my seventh birthday and I am hiding from everyone.
I don’t want to go to school today. I want to spend my birthday with Daddy.
He is always working. If he is not at his office, he is caged in his study. Always busy working in his study.
He promised of taking me to anywhere my heart desires this evening. But I don’t want to go anywhere. I just want my daddy to be with me.
So, I decided I am not going to school today.
