“Aw, then we won’t trouble you,” Brielle says.

Summer offers her food to them. They shake their heads and smile.

“I heard you and our boss had a big fight.” Brielle leans forward.

Summer stills for a beat before tearing a big bite from her burger furiously.

“There must be a misunderstanding. Archer is a sweet guy.” Mia speaks.

“Sweet guy, my ass.” Summer mutters under her breath.

I rest my hands on the table. “I apologize on his behalf. I am sure he didn’t mean to offend you.”

“Oh, he did. He hates me.”

I frown then, getting a bit defensive. “He doesn’t even know you.”

“But he does.” A humorless smile twists her lips.

“Wait a minute.” I sit straighter. “You two know each other. How?”

“Can I please eat in peace? I don’t want to talk about that douchebag and spoil my meal.”

“Yeah, sure.”

I make a mental note about asking Archer about her later.

She then devours the fries, burger and finishes the shake in two minutes flat.

She cracks her neck. The girl walked for hours because of us. I feel terrible.

I nibble on a french fry then clear my throat. “Hey, I wanted to apologize. Raleigh was with me the entire day and forgot to pick you up.”

Brielle snaps her head to me. “He did what?”

Summer shrugs. “It’s okay.”

Brielle’s jaw drops. “You are a good friend.”

Summer laughs. “I can’t stay angry with him for too long. But rest assured, I will take my revenge.”

“Why?” I can’t help but ask.

Summer glances at me. “Why what?”

“Why can’t you stay angry with him for too long?”

“Because I love him.”

She declares then gazes across the table. “Hannah, you haven’t touched your burger.”

I swallow the dryness of my throat before opening my mouth. “I am not hungry anymore.”

“Mind if I eat yours?”

I slide my plate toward her.

Brielle, Mia, and Summer chat while I stay mute.
