I lead Summer to the table with the best view of the waterfall.
After taking a seat opposite her, I motion for the waiter.
Summer’s gaze roams over the restaurant, a look of wonder flits over her expression.
The wide room is empty except for the working staff and a few of our crew members.
It’s Victor’s generosity that he is treating us so lavishly.
The client always sponsors our stay but this hits different.
This resort is closed for everyone and only we get to enjoy the services and the scenic views without interruption.
This beautiful place is quiet now but soon it will be filled, crowded by people.
When the waiter comes to take our orders, I say, “Maui is famous for seafood. You must try—”
“Can I have a cheeseburger?” She stares at me with eager eyes.
“A cheeseburger?” I stare at her, dumbfounded.
“Yeah.” She grins at me.
“Okay.” I nod and glance at the waiter. “One cheeseburger—”
“And fries.” Summer adds.
“All right and fries,” I tell the waiter.
“And chocolate milkshake if you have it, please.” She intertwines her fingers as if she is praying and licks her lips.
Amused, I repeat her order then ask, “Do you need anything else?”
She scrunches her eyebrows as if she is thinking about it. “Umm… Not for now. I’ll add something later.”
The waiter is about to leave but she stops him.
“What about you? Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I ate earlier. I am not so hungry.”
“It would be awkward to eat when you are not.” She glances at the waiter. “Make that two. Please and thank you.”
The waiter nods and leaves.
“Big day tomorrow, huh?” Summer says breaking the silence.
I tense. She knows about our fake engagement.
Her eyes slide down to my ring finger. She frowns. “What happened to your hands?”
I look down at my bandaged hands. “Oh. Nothing. A small accident.”
“Does it hurt?”
“Not really.”
