Page 115 of My Ruthless Opponent

A dark look flickers across his face.

He eats the space between us, fists my hair, and tugs my head back. “For your sake, I’ll ignore that.”

“You—” He presses a hard kiss to my mouth, shutting me up.

“Don’t talk.”

“What—” One more kiss.

“She is like my little sister. She is important to me. I couldn’t lie to her. She had already figured out we were pretending to be a couple. But she wanted to know if something was going on between us. I denied it because I was saving my ass from getting grilled.”

His blue eyes bore into mine. “She is trustworthy. I won’t jeopardize our contract.” He gentles his tone then. “I know how vital this promotion is to you.” The softness in his eyes scares me. My heart thuds in my chest.

He doesn’t know my desperation for this promotion. Is there any way he knows about my dad?

No. I eliminate the thought as soon as it takes form.

“Have I covered all your questions? Or am I leaving something out?”

I yank free of his hold. “What about the flying kisses?”

He sighs. “Summer was being Summer. She is a pain in my ass. She’ll barf if she hears what you think about me and her.”

My shoulders relax.

Raleigh stares at me. “Are you appeased by my statements, your honor?”

I am. But I don’t tell him. “I am still mad at you.” I turn on my heels, unable to face him.

I am embarrassed. I acted like a jealous girlfriend and interrogated him.

“I know how you can cool off.” Raleigh’s chest brushes my back.

“How?” I ask reluctantly.

Raleigh doesn’t answer. I am about to face him when he sweeps me off my feet and tosses me in the pool. I shriek mid-air, it’s muffled when gravity pulls me deeper inside the pool.

I sputter and gasp as I break the surface. “You despicable asshole!”

I wipe my face, my vision blurry because of the water.

I am still attempting to calm my thundering heart when a loud sound of splash comes from my side, almost giving me a heart attack.

I blink several times and finally see the rascal swimming toward me.

He tugs me in his arms and pushes a strand off my face. I beat my fists in his chest.

“I. Hate. You.” I gasp each word with a hit. He just laughs and grabs my wrists.

“Hey, princess?” He angles his head to the side and watches me with those electric eyes.

“What?” I snap.

“Are you angry?” His blue eyes glitter like diamonds.

“I am livid!” I thrash in his arms, flailing my limbs in the water, splashing him in the process.

How dare he? This was his idea to cool off? To throw me in a pool?
