“Holy. Fucking. Shit.” Her eyes are wide. “You guys share a bed?” She shifts closer to the phone, her eyes gleaming.
I roll my eyes at her interest. “Yes, and it’s a huge fucking bed. Plenty of space to avoid each other.” I am a fucking liar.
“So you’re telling me this thing is purely business.” Summer tilts her head, her lips curling in a wicked teasing smile.
“Yeah,” I say without any hesitation.
Summer is a liar by choice, it is her specialty, and can sniff lies when she hears one.
But if I talk to her with an impassive face, I could deceive her. Does that make me a bad friend? I don’t know.
What I have with Hannah is complicated. And although Summer is my best friend, I want to keep this to myself.
If she got wind of my desire for my enemy, she’ll torment me with endless teasing.
“So there’s nothing going on between you and your opponent?”
“Absolutely nothing.” I keep my face blank. But fuck, just the mention of her name makes me mad with lust.
“All right.” She smiles.
Just like that? There has to be a catch.
“Book my ticket. I am coming to your wedding.”
I knew it. I get the feeling of Déjà vu. This shit has happened before. With Archer. Even he played us just like Summer. Acting like they are convinced only to drop a fucking bomb later.
“No.”
“No? You don’t want your only best friend to attend your wedding?” She cuts me a hard glare.
“Fakewedding.”
“I don’t care! I am coming. Make sure to book the ticket a day before the wedding, I want to spend some time with my soon-to-be sister.” She winks at me.
“I am doing no such thing.” I grit out.
“Yes, you are.”
“Why do you want to come here anyway? You know this wedding is only for show.”
“You’re going to stay married for a year. It isn’t just for show. It’s a big deal.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I don’t. Besides, I am too fucking depressed with this job situation. I wish I never went for that interview I had a few days ago.”
“What happened?”
“The interviewer was a complete jerk. What’s worse is that it has led to nothing but bad luck ever since.”
I frown. “Did he misbehave with you? What’s his name? Give me the name of the company, I’ll figure it out.” I ask, my protectiveness surging.
She shakes her head. “Don’t worry about it. Just do as I say.”
“No. I said I am not doing it.” I snap.
“Yes, you are.” She grins. “Because you love me.” She states smugly. pouting her lips and blowing me a kiss. It pisses me off even more. This cunning woman.
