“You got it.”
I turned on Netflix, and Cedric settled beside me in front of the coffee table where our dinner was laid out.
"I have to admit, I haven't watched this movie before," he murmured as I started up Pride and Prejudice. 2005, of course.
“That’s funny,” I chuckled and reached for a slice of pizza.
When Cedric sent me a deadpan look, I couldn’t believe it.
“Rosings Park? Hertfordshire?” I asked as I paused the movie, needing to get to the bottom of this.
"I've heard of those before,” he scoffed. "I have a friend who lives in Hertfordshire."
"Mr Darcy?" I prompted, growing more horrified with each passing second regarding his little to non-existent knowledge regarding everything Pride and Prejudice.
"I think my neighbour's dog is called Darcy."
"That's an appalling thing for you to say.” I turned my nose up. "What about the Bennet sisters? Surely you must have heard of them.”
“They sound familiar. Are they a rock band or something?”
"Rock band? I scoffed, finding it hard not to get offended. “The next thing you're going to ask me is if Jane Austen is a professor or something."
"Who's Jane Austen?"
"Who's Jane Austen?" I echoed in shock. "Are you being serious right now?" He nodded. "I can't believe you've never heard of Jane Austen before. What about Charlotte Bronte? You must have heard of her, right? If you haven’t, then you must have been living under a rock your whole life.”
"She's the one that won The Hunger Games, right?"
My jaw dropped at his lack of knowledge when it came to the classics, but when he couldn't hold back the teasing grin any longer, I frowned and threw a handful of chips at him.
"I was only joking,” he chuckled and caught a chip in his mouth. "I know who Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte are. But you have to agree that The Bennet Sisters does sound like the name of a rock band.”
“I’ll just have to educate you then. Watch carefully,” I instructed him, unpausing the movie.
Once we were done with dinner, we paused the movie, and Cedric helped me wash up.
“How was your day, darling?” He asked, reaching out to loop an arm around my waist and bring me into him when I returned to the sofa after putting away the leftovers.
"Not too eventful, so I'm happy about that."
"I feel the same on quieter days," he chuckled. "As developers, that's exactly what we signed up for, right?"
"Right," I agreed. "The days that I have multiple meetings and need to talk to lots of people feel like they drag on for so long. Today was mostly just me and my computer getting it on."
"I would pay good money to see you and your computer getting it on,” he laughed, playfully knocking his knee against mine.
“So, not only are you cheesy, but you’re also dirty-minded? You’d think these are things I would know before agreeing to start dating you.”
“You say that as if you weren’t dying to lock me down.”
"In your dreams," I scoffed but struggled to keep the smile off my face.
His smug smirk told me I was indeed correct.
"It's nearly November now, and then it's December, so I'm hoping that work slows down a little for the rest of the year,” I said.
“It usually does for us. It’s certainly the time of year that people take the most days off.”
