Saffron:

What do you mean?

Nothing happened this morning

Cedric:

Why did you leave this morning, darling?

I woke up alone in your bed

I looked all over your apartment but you were gone

Saffron:

I had to leave for work

I knew it was a cop-out answer, but I didn’t care. Not when I had asked myself that very same question all day.

Cedric:

You could have waited for me

Or woke me up

Our offices are on opposite sides of the road

We could have gone to work together

Saffron:

I didn’t want to wake you

Cedric:

You should have

I would have appreciated it

I wanted to see you this morning

I called you after but you didn’t pick up

Saffron:

Sorry

I was busy with something at work

Cedric:

We both know you’re lying, darling

I could practically hear his disapproving tone through the message. I knew he was right that we needed to talk, but I couldn't bring myself to text him back. Instead, I put his chat on mute for the next eight hours. That way, I would at least be able to make it through the rest of the evening without having to ponder the real reason why I was avoiding Cedric.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t avoid Cedric forever. Not only were our office buildings opposite each other, but our parents were playing in a golf tournament together, and we both had agreed that we would be there to cheer them on. Avoiding him was near impossible, but for the time being, it gave me a sense of relief and some time to get my thoughts in order.

“Who are you texting?” Sophia asked, a curious look in her eyes as she leaned over Liam to get a look at my phone.
