“I told you he didn’t make me the Beef Wellington.”
It had been a lie when I said it. A distraction. But I wassureI’d said it to her. And how did she know what he’d said about not being able to think straight?
She huffed, rolling her eyes.
The Cavallotto. That was the winery he mentioned. A sick rock settled in my gut. There was only one way she knew so much. Drew told her. He’d lied to me about their relationship and—
No, that’s not the only way, Jayce.“His apartment’s bugged, isn’t it?”
Blondie’s lips tightened, confirming my guess. After five years of working with professionals like the Reynolds siblings, this woman was too easy to read.
“Why bug his apartment?” I handed the zip ties to Rav.
She didn’t know I’d left Drew’s place on Thursday night. She thought we’d slept together, otherwise she wouldn’t be lashing out. But she knew everything before that. The bug had to be in the kitchen or dining room, where we’d been talking.
The photo of the two of them! Drew had said he’d gotten rid of every trace of her, so she must have planted the photo with a bug. She hadn’t heard anything after it was in the drawer.
“Wrongful imprisonment,” she growled. “I’ll have you all thrown in jail.”
My hands shook and volume rose. “I asked why you bugged his apartment!”
“Jayce,” said Emmett, in hiscalm downvoice.
“It doesn’t matter. He’s with us now. He’d never say no to—” She clamped her lips shut and raised her chin in a sign of defiance.
Drew had gone to see Craig. He’d said he didn’t want to leave. Was that a lie and he was grateful for the excuse? Or was Craig the one he’d never say no to?
Think, Jayce.
She wanted him back. He’d told me as much.
Drew called mehis woman.
“Craig’s behind it all,” I whispered, staring at Vanessa in the low light, watching her eyes narrow. I was right.
And that meant Drew had walked into something he didn’t understand.
“Shit.” I ripped my phone off my forearm and long-pressed, unlocking it. I texted Drew, pacing away from the group while Emmett and Rav questioned Vanessa further.
I called, but the phone rang and rang. No answer. If I washiswoman and I mattered to him, he wouldn’t wait this long to respond to my text. Not after what we did tonight. Not after the way he’d looked at me. Or kissed me.
Or the way he’d held me after.
“Jayce?” Emmett’s word snapped me back to the room.
I’d missed something. And I didn’t care. “Fenix has Drew.”
Rav looked at Emmett, who’d once been held by the thieves, smugglers, and goons.
Emmett’s gaze stayed fixed on me. “That’s a bit of a leap, don’t you think?”
I stepped up to the tall, irritatingly gorgeous woman who thought she could drive a wedge between Drew and me. I pulled off my head covering and pointed at her. “Tell me where he is.”
Great.Nowshe refused to talk. That was worse than the taunts and lies.
“Drew was going to meet Craig at their office. Are they still there?”
She grimaced and rose on her tiptoes. Rav must have been exerting pressure on her bound hands. Despite that, she held her tongue.
