When Evie leaves, my phone vibrates, and I smile as Kayden’s name pops up. I smile and quickly swipe open the message, surprised he’s awake at this time.

A knock at my door stirs me away from my phone before I have a chance to send the text to Kayden. I huff and step off my bed. “What have you left now, Evie?” I shout as I open the door.

Evie doesn’t stare back at me. Josh does.

My mouth turns dry at the sight of him. His eyes are bloodshot, and I don’t miss the way he sways into the doorframe, his arm raised above to keep him stable. I’m frozen to the spot as he stares back at me. Josh smirks and stumbles forward.
