“I thought you had to leave,” she panted.
Rotating her hips, I rubbed her clit against my thigh. “I have a minute to give my girl another orgasm.”
Her responding whimper made it so damn tempting to tear her clothes off and take her right here on the tile floor. Instead, I thrust my tongue into her mouth, devouring her as I continued to bring her pleasure.
Head dropping back, she moaned, the sound loud and drawn out, and her body shook. When she came back down from her orgasm, she melted into my arms.
“Perfect.” I shifted, my cock begging to be set free.
“You sure you have to go?” She looked up, sticking her lip out, and palmed my hardness.
I pinched my eyes closed and breathed deeply, wishing I could stay. But in no world could I be late for court.
With a shake of my head, I stepped back. “I really do need to leave now.” I pressed a quick kiss on her forehead. “Trust me, I wish I didn’t.”
Smiling, she followed me to the door. “Remember we have that thing for Brendan’s birthday tonight at my mom’s. If you don’t get stuck at the station.”
I never had to question whether my job would pose a problem anymore. Hattie went with the flow and had no problem adapting if plans changed. Just last week, she’d come to the station to have dinner with me while I pulled a long shift in order to solve a case.
“It should be fine.” And though Rhett’s endless complaining about both of his best friends being with his sisters was a little annoying, it was more comical than anything. We weren’t allowed to mention anything even remotely related to sex, or Rhett would groan and walk away.
I gave Hattie one more kiss and headed to my car.
Next door, Logan was out. He was standing on his porch, watching his young nanny play soccer with his twin girls.
I shook my head. That situation was going to implode eventually, and when it did, it would be a mess. Not only was she almost twelve years younger than him, but she was also the younger sister of one of his good friends.
Regardless, he was looking at her the way I looked at Hattie, so this was sure to be dramatic.
But sometimes the woman a guy is meant to be with comes to him when he least expects it. And then she’ll turn his world upside down.
I glanced back at Hattie, who was watching me with a smile, and my chest constricted.
If all went well tonight, we would be setting a wedding date soon, because I couldn’t imagine my life without her in it.
Epilogue
HATTIE
I smiledas I surveyed our friends and family. They were scattered around the back patio of The Dock, where we were hosting our rehearsal dinner. It still amazed me that our little group of friends and family had added so many more kids in the last year. Maybe there really was something in the water last spring, because Bella, Brittney, and Sarah all had infants close in age.
Dylan stepped up next to me and handed me a glass of wine. “The rehearsal went well, don’t you think?”
I raised an eyebrow at him. “Sure, if you don’t count the shitshow Savannah caused.”
Leave it to her to show up at my wedding rehearsal with a date and cause an uproar.
“Eh.” Dylan lifted a shoulder and let it drop. “I don’t think she had a clue Kyle would respond like that. You two were so young when his best friend’s sister drowned, weren’t you?”
“Yeah. I think I was seven, so that would have made Savannah five.” Honestly neither Savannah nor I remember much of what happened, but obviously it had something to do with the guy Savannah brought as her date.
With his lips pressed to my temple, he pulled me into his side. “Don’t let it get to you. They’ll work it out.”
I hoped so. As much as my family exhausted me most days, I couldn’t handle it if any of them were upset tomorrow.
“At least Rhett seems okay with it.”
A chuckle slipped from Dylan’s lips. “I think he’s just happy she didn’t end up with one of his friends.”
