I wrinkle my nose. “Like what?”

“I don’t know, one of us marrying a rich person and getting them to designate us the beneficiary on their insurance only to have them succumb to a mysterious accident on the honeymoon.”

“Gah.” I pull a face. “God, no. What kind of person do you think I am?”

“Someone who has spent too many nights watching true crime shows while her mom complains about how there are no good men left in this world.”

That’s a fair point. “I promise, this idea doesn’t involve any criminal activity.”

“Okay. Then let’s hear it.”

Straightening in my seat, I take a deep breath. “So, last night I was watching videos on my phone?—”

“Of course, you were.”

“When an ad popped up for a contest. It was for single adults between the ages of 25 and 40.”

“Oh shit.” Burke’s face grows pale. “Please tell me you didn’t sign us up to be contestants on one of those dating shows.”

“Nope.”

He releases a breath and strokes his beard. “Thank God.”

“But it’s not that far off.”

His hand freezes. “What?”

“So, here’s the gist. The ad called for single adults to submit an application to be set up on a date with the Matchmaker.”

“The Matchmaker?”

“That’s right.” I nod. “And if you hit it off with whoever she matches you up with, she’ll send the pair of you on a vacation to a fantasy location.”

His dark thick brows knit together. “Did you offer up our company’s services or something to help with the vacations?”

“No.” I frown. “But that’s actually a good idea.”

“Then what?—”

“I filled out applications for both of us.”

His jaw drops open. “Let me get this straight. You think the answer to our business problems is to drop what we’re doing and go on a vacation with some stranger.”

“That’s not what I said. You didn’t let me finish.”

“But—”

“It’s an all-expense-paid trip. And on top of that, they’ll give you $20,000 of spending money to split. The couples are supposed to use the money to upgrade their seats, hotel stays, and experiences. But if you’re frugal, you can just keep the cash.”

“They’ll really let you keep it?”

I bob my head up and down. “I called the organizers to check. They’re also sending six couples on these trips, so I entered both of us. If by some chance we’re both picked, we can each pocket $10,000 to bring back to our business.”

He says nothing.

I arch an eyebrow. “What do you think?”

“I say this with love, but Hadley, you are out of your fucking mind.”
