WALK AWAY

“Are you sure you’re okay watching Ty for a little bit this morning?” Michael asked the next day.

“Of course I am,” Kelly said. “Why would you think I wasn’t?”

“Just checking,” he said. “I need to get this over with. The longer that I wait, the more it builds. Everyone has to move on at this point.”

He looked around the kitchen and Ty wasn’t anywhere to be seen. Most likely in the front living room playing.

“Do you think you’ll get any answers?” she asked.

“I’m going to lay it out again. I’m going to want an answer.”

Watching his son ask where his mother was yesterday and having to make something up was coming to an end. Even Electra’s parents didn’t know. Not that he expected them to know much, but they had no idea what was going on in their daughter’s life in terms of Ty.

“Good luck,” she said. “What are you going to tell Ty now?”

“Just that I’m running errands and he can stay with you. He won’t think anything of it.”

“I’ll keep him entertained. He got a lot of new things yesterday and we’ll make our way through them.”

He leaned down to kiss her. “Thanks. I appreciate it.”

Ty came running into the room. “Can I have some milk?”

“I’ll get it,” she said.

“Ty, I’m running out to do a few things. Kelly is going to stay with you and check out all your new toys.”

“Sweet!” Ty said. He gave his kid a high five and then walked out the door to his SUV.

When he got to Electra’s, he knocked on the door and she kept him waiting even though she knew he was coming.

He’d texted her last night and even called and left a message. A firm message to call him back and she did almost immediately after she’d ignored his texts.

He heard the music in the background when she called. She was out partying at some club rather than coming to her son’s party. It only pissed him off even more.

He knocked a second time and she finally opened the door. She was barely dressed even though it looked as if she’d showered and layered her makeup on.

The crop top showed more of her midsection than was covering her body. Her cotton shorts were more like ones Kelly wore to bed and her ass cheeks hung out. He loved them on his girlfriend. They looked trashy on his ex.

What the hell did he ever see in her other than the fact that she was so easy to get in bed and he was out having fun?

“Come in,” Electra said. “What’s the problem?”

“Do you know what yesterday was?” he asked.

“No. It wasn’t my day to have Ty. What you do with him on your day is your business.”

He ground his teeth. He’d texted her twice about the party as a reminder. “It was our son’s birthday. You don’t remember the day he was born?”

She stopped walking away from him and turned to stare. “I forgot. You always remind me.”

“I shouldn’t have to remind you,” he shouted. “And I did. Twice. Once on Friday even. Yet you still blew it off. Your parents didn’t even know where you were and couldn’t believe you didn’t show up for his party. Ty asked where you were and I made something up that you were probably working. Then he asked why you didn’t call.”

“I’m sorry,” Electra said. Her eyes were filling up and he didn’t know if it was part of her game or not. He was beyond it all at this stage though.
