CHAPTER 28

Jagger

Passion.

I’d found it once in my life but not to this degree.

I’d shared a closeness with a woman only to find myself shutting down, incapable of providing what anyone would ever need.

Then Bella had dropped into my life like a wrecking ball, shattering my pristine but boring world and refusing to let go.

Hell, I’d done everything I could to push her away including acting like the biggest asshole in the world. But she’d refused to buy my bullshit. She’d seen past the anger and hurt to find what I really needed.

A soulmate.

Okay, so I wasn’t the kind of guy to believe in the crap about love at first sight. It was more like complete disgruntlement. We were nothing alike. She was sunshine in the middle of a thunderstorm. I was the thunderstorm capable of turning intoa tornado. Maybe someone would call us enemies at first, although that might be a little harsh.

But if so, all those love experts out there who believed they had all the answers did say something right.

Enemies made the best lovers.

I couldn’t get enough of her. Every time she walked into a damn room my cock reacted first, my mind second. I’d had no idea that was possible. The moment I’d seen her in the purple dress, I’d been certain we wouldn’t get out the door. The light material hugged every voluptuous curve as if she’d been poured into it.

And besides Shephard every goddamn man in the bar was watching her, hungering for her. There wasn’t a single male pair of eyes that wasn’t on her.

I’d never been the jealous type because I hadn’t given enough of damn before, but the moment some jerk had asked her to dance, I’d overreacted.

She was still somewhat miffed, that cute nose of hers wrinkled. As she sat beside me, she acted as if I was the last person on this earth she wanted to talk to. I knew better. She was calculating how she was going to get me back. I honestly couldn’t wait to see what she did.

The roads were dark and given the way I’d decided to drive back to the cabin, I couldn’t see her beautiful face. But the time allowed me to make plans for how I was going to handle her when we got home.

Every inch of her would be hot and wet before we got upstairs.

I was such a jerk, but I couldn’t help issuing a smile in the dark.

“You’re going to be your brother’s best man,” she stated.

“Not possible.”

“Why? Because you don’t care about him?”

That was as far from the correct answer as possible. “No, because it’s just not me.” I couldn’t put into words how I felt about the honor of being asked, so as usual, I avoided the question.

“You think you’re all that and a bag of chips. Don’t you?” Bella’s question came out of the blue.

“Yep.”

“Not easily frazzled?”

“Nope.”

“Uh-huh. As with most things,” she purred, “you’re wrong.”

“I’m never wrong. When are you going to get that through your pretty little head?”

She exhaled, the sound exaggerated and dared to place her hand on my leg. When she squeezed her fingers around my tight muscles, my cock immediately responded. “I suggest you find a safe place to pull over.”

“Oh, yeah? Why’s that?”
