“I’m so sorry,” I whispered, tears brimming in my eyes. Realization dawned on me. John had sold Leona to the Hive too.

“It’s not your fault,” he said, taking my hand in his. “It’s why we created the Dark Legion MC. Reaper, Tank, and I created this brotherhood six years ago. We will do just about anything to take the Hive’s organization down. But last night didn’t go according to plan. The women we intended to rescue weren’t even at the site we had been watching for the last few months. It’s almost like… someone tipped them off,” he added, his brows furrowed.

“That’s how Snake got hurt?” I gasped.

Scar nodded. “He’ll be fine. One of our prospects, Chris, stayed with him all night.”

Chris?Where had I heard that name before?

“What about you, dove?” His question interrupted my thoughts. “You’re quite the anomaly,” Scar said, obviously trying to change the subject.

I blushed under Scar’s intense stare.

“What about me?” I asked, feeling put on the spot.

“Who hurt you? And don’t try to deny it. Snake told me about the bruises.” He raised a brow, daring me to deny it. It reminded me that Snake had found out.

How long ago was that now? A week.

I touched my rib tentatively. “M-my husband.”

My gaze fell to his boots. Ashamed to admit it. Scar lifted my chin and forced our gazes to clash again.

“He’s a dead man,” Scar growled, his eyes flashing bright yellow. My stomach coiled at the promise in his voice. “Show me.”

“Are you a Cerberus too?” I whispered, ignoring his demand.

“No. My siblings and I don’t share the same mother. Each of us possesses a different beast. Now quit trying to avoid me. Show me, dove,” his voice softened.

“There isn’t anything to show. I’m fine.”

Scar frowned. “Prove it.”

I groaned. “You’re not giving up, are you?” I asked.

A smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

Standing, I turned my back to him. My hand shook as I lifted my shirt and revealed my back, littered with scars. A deep and feral growl rumbled from Scar.

“What did he do to you?” he whispered, a tenderness in his voice that had tears in my eyes.

“Scar, please don’t ask me,” I begged.

Scar turned me to face him, my shirt falling back into place and once again concealing my scars. His eyes searched mine before he pulled me to his chest. For a moment we just stood there, soaking up the strength we offered each other.

“You should know, my brother isn’t the only one who cares about you, dove. We all do.” His voice rumbled against my chest. “You’re family now, and we protect our own.”

I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. “Thank you, Scar. I’m grateful for all of you.” Offering what little comfort I could, I squeezed him tighter.

“How you doing?” I asked Snake, who was propped up in bed with a plate of untouched food.

He flashed me a sad smile. “Been better.”

Once again, guilt began to weigh on me. I turned to Doc, who was currently checking stats on a clipboard.
