She doesn’t look impressed. “Don’t make me regret this.”

He nods. “I won’t.”

She moves back to her desk as Owen turns to leave.

It takes me a second to remember I’m going with him.

Pete walks me to the door. “Call me if you get bored.”

“I’m pretty sure I’ll be otherwise occupied,” I murmur back.

He smiles, knowing exactly what I intend to get up to with Owen. “Have fun.”

I’m sure I will, and that’s enough to put a smile on my face. “You too.”

Chapter Forty-Four

Pete

Aglance at my phone’s screen after I close the door on Shadow and Owen tells me I’ve barely been inside Lana’s office for forty minutes this morning, and I’m already dreading the thought of spending the rest of the day in here.

I send Ezra a text message asking when he’ll be coming to speak to Lana.

It’s not something I could ask in front of her, and I knew Owen wasn’t about to drop any hints while he was here. The way he was focused on getting through his job wasn’t encouraging.

I can only hope that Shadow can loosen him up a bit while they’re gone.

If anyone can make Owen see what he’s got here, it’s Shadow.

I move back toward the couch that faces the door, intent on keeping my future mate protected from anyone who might come through it.

She sighs softly from the seat behind her desk.

I walk around the couch and stop at the side of her desk.

“You look like you need something strong and hot inside you,” I admit, making her blush.

She gives me a wry smile. “Well, that is how I like my coffee.”

“Then, lets get you some.” I offer her a hand, and that’s my first mistake.

She reaches out, placing her hand in mine.

Those big dark eyes gaze up at me, and I can see the longing there as she gets to her feet.

She looks so damn good, and I know she’s thinking the same thoughts about me.

Her hand is still in mine. I don’t want to let it go.

She moves her free hand up to the side of my face, and I lean into her touch.

“What are you thinking about?” she asks quietly.

“You,” I admit, as I bring her hand against my chest.

“Me?” She sounds slightly dazed.

“You,” I confirm, taking in her dreamy gaze.
