He goes on, slowly, eyes watching me as I interpret what he’s signing.

I don’t like this city. My parents …

He trails off, shrugging.

I guess he’s out of words, or he doesn’t want to say any more.

He starts up again.

I’m angry that someone wants to hurt you.

Well, this guy is just full of surprises.

I pick my phone back up and delete the previous note to write a new one.

When I hold it back up, he takes it off me to read it.

I’m sorry too. It felt like you weren’t happy to be here. I assumed that meant you were just doing this out of obligation to your pack who seem to like me for some reason.

You can stay. I won’t argue.

He hands it back a few seconds later, and signs again.

No obligation. You’re our …

Something, something.

Damn. I don’t know those two words.

I guess it doesn’t matter, not really.

He explained his shitty mood, as much as he was able to, and he apologised for it.

I nod and he sighs, leaning back against the wall.

Again, it looks like a pose that would go viral if I took a picture of him and posted it online.

Everything he does is effortlessly sexy. He’s basically a tall guy making the best of the limited space and he’s giving me thirst-trap poses without even meaning to.

He’s infuriatingly attractive.

I didn’t know that was a thing, but he’s the embodiment of it.

I give him the sign forGoodnight, and he does the same.

Then I pull back my sheets, sit down and climb carefully into bed, making sure I’m completely covered up as I get comfy and place my phone in between my pillow and the wall.

I seriously doubt I’m going to be able to get to sleep, but I can at least make it look like I’m trying.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Owen

My new mate thinks I’m an asshole. I saw it on her face when we met, and I see it again when she tells me she wants me to leave. Guilt swallows me whole as I meet her furious gaze.

I’ve been in a dark mood from the moment we met.

It’s what being in this city does to me. I despise everything about being out here.
