“Fine, I’ll eat,” I agree, glowering over at him. “But I’m doing this because Ezra sent it to me, not because you told me to, so don’t even think about counting this as a win.”

He shrugs. “Do what you want. I’m barely even here.”

My annoyance starts to turn in anger as I eat.

This pack is seriously infuriating.

I can’t wait until they leave.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Owen

Our new mate is the head of Goldcrest Omega Academy, the place my parents wanted me to come to “pick out” an Omega for my mate. It was built to be the one academy for the super-rich of this country, and its rules were modelled after the ideals of people like my parents.

Male Alphas who were brought up to think their preferences were the only things that mattered.

Female Omegas who were raised to worship their mates and do nothing but support them.

On the outside, the academy sells a dream to the Omegas whose parents are elite enough to get them in. Everything the academy puts out into the public eye suggests how much easier it is to meet your true mate when you’re in what they call “the right place.”

It’s all marketing bullshit.

In reality the academy was only ever about giving a bunch of rich Alphas a place to find Omegas their parents pre-approvedof as potential mates. Can’t have their sons go out into the world where they might get mated to someone whose family isn’t as rich and powerful as theirs.

It felt like a fucked-up idea to me a decade ago, and I expected nothing to have changed.

Finding out Goldcrest has started to change is one thing.

Discovering my newly uncovered true mate is the one making that happen is something else entirely. She’s got the heart of an Alpha. It takes real guts to do what she did, and serious conviction to stand steady while she rocked the foundation of this elite brothel.

Not only that, but she isn’t doing this for herself.

She’s doing it for the Omegas.

She cares about them.

The way she spoke, I felt it. She wants them to know the truth, and she wants this to be a real fucking school where they actually learn things that can help them understand themselves.

She was completely made for Ezra.

The two of them together could change the whole damn world.

Unfortunately, that kind of energy doesn’t tend to go uncontested.

That’s what I’m here for. That’s why she needs me.

I’ll protect her the way she needs to be protected from the threats that are going to fall in her path. Pete will do the same. We’re the guardians of our pack. We know how to fight to win.

Shadow will help remind her how to relax, like he does with Ezra.

They both have a hard-working spirit, as well as being caring towards others.

And neither of them is particularly good at taking care of themselves, it seems.

She’s enjoying the food she was ready to leave to get back to work.

The sounds she makes are vaguely sexual and increasingly difficult to completely ignore.
