I questioned, “What did you do?” Oscar answered, “I popped away from my Jenna.” I said, “I got it. The picture is all too clear for me about the woman who is like family to me. Why do I ask these questions? Thank you, Oscar.” Oscar replied, “Anything for you, Alpha man.” I rolled my eyes.

The next day we were trying to track the missing pups down. Even Eric was running into walls. It wasn’t as if they used their mother’s name. My phone rang at midday. I answered, “Eric, do you have anything?” Eric told me, “Gunner is fucking brilliant is what I have. He’s using the last name from the Ducant pack. A few have popped. The Hackura have sent people to observe. I’ll keep you up to date. None are in this area.”

I questioned, “Where did they end up?” Eric snorted, “They are everywhere. We’ve got them in Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, and California.” My dread grew. I said, “Eric….” He cut me off, “I know. I don’t think I can relax about Haley or Cassie’s security.” I admitted, “I understand. I can’t either.” Eric said, “I have a bad feeling….” He trailed off.

I asked, “What?” Eric continued, “I have a bad feeling, that at a certain age women are used for breeding.” I questioned, “You think they are populating the ring with the ones they already have.” Eric pointed out, “It makes sense and it’s smart. You already have someone off the grid. You’d have to treat them better than Haley was treated at times. They’d have to be given food. Hell, they might even use it as an incentive. Like put in your time, and then you get to pop out pups. You get to eat regular meals though and for your pregnancy no one hits you or rapes you.” I cursed, “FUCK!”

Eric agreed, “That’s my exact thought. That’s only based on my limited experience with Fabian. I ran it by Aiden and he agrees. Which is peachy since he’s read all the journals.” I questioned, “You didn’t?” Eric admitted, “I’ve read some of them. Fabian was a sick piece of work.”

I sighed, “Happy day before my wedding.” Eric said, “We put this aside tonight. We are working through and doing what we can. We will help where we can and pick at this thing until they bleed to death. We can’t stop living our lives though.” I admitted, “You’re right.” Eric said, “We will see you the morning Chase.” I hung up the phone and went upstairs.

Everything seemed brighter when I saw Lexi. I kissed her and fell into our bed together. I couldn't be happier. Then Reagan cleared her throat while I glared at her. She said I had to leave. Lexi and I had put off moving until after the wedding. We were both busy enough. Plus, it was nice just having our little family in the house.

Reagan linked me, “Frank, Kyler, AND Kevin are here to make sure she’s fine.” I replied, “I’ve had a hell of a day, I need her and HA! The Hood don’t abide this custom. The human’s silly superstition about divorce isn’t a thing with mates. We are mates. That’s it. This is an absurd custom to observe.”

Reagan didn’t care. I was about to argue when Cameron linked me, “Big brother, PLEASE. Reagan has been on a war path since her due date has come and gone. I BEG OF YOU just let her have this. I will find a way to make it up to you.” I rolled my eyes. Oscar popped in to take us to the new house. I kissed Lexi until Reagan linked me, “Let’s go, Chase.” I rolled my eyes at her.

Oscar popped us right outside and grabbed Cameron then popped us to the new house. I turned around, “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT BUILDING? It’s amazing. Is that a pond and fountains?” Matt explained, “It’s Pemberley. Ted is completely jazzed about it. As is the entire pack. For bigger parties or weddings this place is perfect. The place Derrick and Sally got married is perfect for the other half of the pack with smaller venue desires.”

I said, “Pemberley….? Reagan, isn’t that in some movie you made me watch?” Reagan rolled her eyes, “Yes,Pride and Prejudice.” Matt explained, “Your soon to be wife always DREAMED about getting married there. It’s why she was bummed early on when we told Ted weddings had to be on pack lands.” I stated, “It’s a gorgeous building.”

Reagan encouraged me, “Go see inside.” I asked her, “You aren’t coming?” Reagan snorted, “I wasn’t kidding. My overdue pregnant ass is going to bed. Besides, I’ve seen the venue. It’s breathtaking. Cameron and I are going to renew our vows there some day.” She went inside.

I called, “Cameron, are you coming with us? Or going with your wife?” Cameron quickly said, “You. I’m coming with you.” Once we got halfway there Cameron said, “My breathing annoys her right now.” I laughed, “Your breathing?” Cameron answered, “Yes, it’s very loud and she doesn’t like it.” Matt and I burst into laughter.

We walked over to the house. I observed, “The detail on this balcony is stunning.” Matt nudged me, “Wait for it.” He walked inside and turned on the lights. I gasped aloud, “They conjured this?” Matt nodded, “Uh huh. Come on!” He ran to the side door and took the back stairs.

I grumbled, “We could've gone up the main stairs.” He said, “That’s the chick side. This is the most amazing side.” We walked upstairs into a room that had old arcade games, a fully stocked bar, big screen TV’s with theatre style chairs, and a mini concession stand. There were pool tables and even a tiny shelf of books with a lounge chair.

I announced, “I’ve changed my mind, this is our new office.” Matt yelled, “I KNOW, RIGHT! It’s so cool!” Matt took me on a tour. He had claimed one of the rooms as his and Ted’s. There were a few rooms that were nurseries. The twins' room was unmistakable. Haley had snapped thing one and two decorations in one. I looked in the room across the hall that had to be mine and Lexi’s room. We walked back outside towards the new main house.

My dad linked, “All good over here. Lexi found out about her guard.” I replied, “It wasn’t a secret, dad. She knew I was doing it.” My dad chuckled, “That’s probably why she took is so well then.” I didn’t answer him. Then it hit me. I asked him, “Are you on twin duty tomorrow?” My dad answered, “Yes, I called it, it’s mine. Those little beauties are all mine tomorrow.”

I laughed, “You hog them.” My dad proudly stated, “It’s not my fault other people are slower at calling time with them.” I teased, “From what I hear even when other people call it you claim grandpa rights.” My dad replied, “What good is it if you don’t throw your weight around as a grandparent sometimes?” I laughed, “Thanks, dad.” My dad responded, “Anytime, son.”

I walked upstairs to what would be Lexi and my room. I paused and walked across the hall to the twin’s room. Cameron knocked on the wood announcing, “Wrong room. I know you haven't moved in yet, but the size of the beds should give that away. Those are cribs and while comical I can’t let you climb in one. Reagan has everything cleaned just so.”

I sighed, “I miss them.” Cameron replied, “They are sleeping.” I shrugged, “But when I was over there, I knew they were just across the hall.” Cameron smiled, “You’re a good dad, big brother.” I said, “As you will be.” Cameron followed me to my room.

I asked, “Are you bunking with me?” Cameron said, “Well, you know, it’s the last night before you get married and all. We should bunk together.” I jokingly asked, “Did Reagan kick you out?” Cameron said, “She linked me saying she was comfy, and I better not wake her up when we came in. I’m doing it for everyone.” I conceded, “Come on, little brother.” I took a shower and grabbed some shorts. Cameron was already sleeping on Lexi’s side of the bed when I got into bed.

I woke up to the sound of a slap. I opened my eyes in surprise to see Reagan had slapped Cameron across the chest. He yelled, “OW!” I said, “Good morning, Chase. Happy wedding morning.” I was ignored. Reagan yelled, “I WAS WORRIED, CAMERON! I woke up and your side of the bed was COLD! No note! And now these sheets need to be washed!” I said quickly, “I asked Cameron to stay with me.” Both their heads jerked to me.

I took Reagan’s face relaxing as a good sign and added, “You were already asleep when we got back. I told him just to let you get some rest then dragged him up here. We have other sheets to put on the bed. These can just go into the hamper.” Reagan said, “Oh, well that was nice of you guys. I did sleep very well. Thank you, Chase.”

I felt like I was on a roll, so I kept going, “Sorry about the lack of note. I didn’t really give him room to argue.” Reagan sighed, “Sorry I smacked you on the chest, Cameron.” She sat down in a huff. She admitted, “I feel like a crazy person.” I linked Cameron, “Do not confirm. Deny, deny, deny.”

Before he could say anything, I heard a pop. Haley said, “I’m popping Reagan away, but I brought you Eric. Bye guys!” She grabbed Reagan and popped. Eric questioned, “Are you having a sleepover?” I explained, “Cameron breathes too loud for his pregnant mate to sleep.”

Eric basically called bullshit by saying, “Why does he have a red shaped handprint on his chest then?” Cameron whisper yelled, “Because she’s a crazy person! It’s the hormones. I can’t wait for my mate to reinhabit her body. That pack OB needs to get the pup out of her. Thanks for taking the heat there, Chase.” Eric snorted.

Cameron added, “Neither of you two can say SHIT! Chase, your mate delivered at warp speed. Mine is overdue and YOU!” He pointed at Eric, “You have a fairy. I read Beta Dylan’s memo about their pregnancies.” Eric dryly said, “She had a nice pregnancy minus the whole she was kidnapped and kept from me ordeal. She was almost drained a few times and not being fed properly. Her pregnancy was a dream, Alpha Cameron.” I bit my lip.

Cameron groaned and laid back down the bed. I covered for my brother again, “He meant the delivery part of her pregnancy.” Eric agreed, “That’s true. She sneezes out pups.” Cameron groaned, “It IS hard to like you sometimes.” I laughed, “Well I like him.” Cameron said, “My mate loves his and she took mine away. It tips the scales in his favor.” Eric muttered, “Yay me.” I laughed.

Cameron got up, “I’m going to shower in my room.” I said, “There’s probably food, with my Beta and Gamma, in the kitchen. I’ll meet you down there.” Eric agreed, “Sure, quick question. Who’s walking with my mate across the balcony?” I knew him well enough to know it was not the casual question it sounded like. I answered, “My dad.” Eric said, “Good.” He turned and walked down the stairs.

I couldn't blame him for worrying, but I wasn’t Beta Dylan. I wasn’t going to have someone walk Haley down the aisle that Eric didn’t get along with. I took a quick shower and found some shorts and a t-shirt that saidGroom. I laughed putting clothes on before I went downstairs.
