I whispered in her ear, “My heart has been yours for a while now, so I thought it was fitting you wear it around your neck.” Lexi wiped her tears and kissed me. She said, “I love you.” I replied, “I love you too.”

The next few days passed quickly. A few days before New Year’s Eve Lexi was supposed to meet Haley for lunch. Heath said he’d thought he’d narrowed down Alfred’s location, though he had a few more places to check out.

Ted came into my office. Matt greeted, “Hey babe.” Ted asked worriedly, “Has anyone heard from Lex today?” I tensed, “She had lunch with Haley.” Ted shook his head, “She cancelled. She texted me she was exhausted. I’ve called but I haven’t heard from her.”

I took off and shifted at the front door. I linked Kincade, “Where’s Lexi?” Kincade answered, “She’s at her house.” I shifted when I got to her house and grabbed some shorts. Kincade met me, “She didn’t leave the house today, Alpha. She texted me she was really tired and was staying home.”

I felt in our connection Lexi was inside. I asked him, “Do you want to talk about Christmas?” Kincade stiffened, “No.” I said, “Kincade.” Kincade ground out, “I don’t want to go out with their she wolfs.” I nodded, “Because you want Carry.”

Kincade’s eyes widened. He stuttered, “Whhatt?” I smiled, “Your Luna is of the opinion that Carry is your mate.” Kincade looked momentarily startled, than grinned broadly, “Really?” I nodded. Kincade realized, “That’s why you’re taking me to the meeting at the Conners house on the second. It’s her birthday.” I nodded, “It’s the safest way for that to come out.”

Kincade grinned, “Honestly, yes. I’ve been hoping she was my mate.” I said, “We will find out.” Kincade dreamily told me, “She’s perfect.” I laughed, “Let’s hope they are right then, and she’s your mate.” Kincade asked, “They?” I said, “Bexley, Haley, Ted, and Lexi. I’m sure Sally agrees with them too.” Kincade’s smile couldn’t have been larger as I made my way inside.

I heard Kevin say to Kincade, “Are you fucking joking? That’s what’s up with you and Carry? I thought you’d LOST your damn mind.” Kincade growled and I shut the door leaving the brothers to that discussion.

I went upstairs and found Lexi sleeping with the covers over her head. I kissed her forehead, “Sweetheart?” Lexi’s eyes fluttered open, “Chase?” I greeted, “Hello.” Lexi asked, “What time is it?” I answered, “It’s after six. Have you eaten at all today?” Lexi shook her head. I kissed her forehead, “I’ll be back.”

I needed her in the main house where someone could take care of her. Lexi had leftovers from Christmas dinner I heated up. I took it upstairs. She sat up and ate everything then laid back down. I told her, “I’m bringing you to my place. I need to know someone can take care of you if you’re not feeling well.” Lexi mumbled, “Feel fine, just tired.” She was already asleep.

I frowned, picked her up, and carried her outside. Kincade frowned when he saw her. He told me, “She might need to invite us inside.” I said, “She will be at the main house until she feels better.” Ted frowned when I brought her in.

I asked him, “Has she ever gotten like this?” Ted answered, “She’s gotten the flu a few times. It wiped her out. I’m guessing the aftereffects of Haley’s charm are no joke.” I frowned, “I’ll tell her to ask about it at the party in Faerie. Are you going with her?” Ted shook his head, “No, I’m spending it with Matt.” I asked, “So, no one is going with her?” Ted said, “Ummm Haley is going.”

I took Lexi upstairs and watched her sleep. Lexi stayed in bed for the most part. I’d showed her the office I’d had prepared here. She worked from there for a few hours a day. Nadine and Susie were making sure she was eating. I was beginning to get really worried. The pack doctor said unless I let him contact Haley his hands were tied.

On New Year’s Eve Lexi needed to get ready at her house. I took her over refusing to leave until Sally came in to help her get ready. Lexi kissed me, “I’ll see you later. I want you to get the full visual effect of my dress when I’m all put together.” I laughed, “Alright. You stay by Haley or one of the Conner’s brothers that will be there.” Lexi laughed, “Alright.”

Sally studied her and smiled at me. Lexi kissed me one last time. She smiled, “See you later, Chase.” I nodded then went to my office and worked. I knew the exact moment Lexi was popped out. She felt so far away.

My dad asked, “Are you going to be grumpy all night?” I answered, “No, it just feels weird her being in another realm.” My dad nodded. The party started and I felt Lexi’s shock so hard I went to my knees. Cameron was beside me in a second. He pushed me up to my feet, and into a vacant room. He questioned, “Chase?”

I opened my phone and dialed Lexi. She was still feeling shocked. She didn’t answer. I called her four more times. I cursed, “Fuck it.” I called Alpha Eric. He answered, “Alpha Chase.” I asked, “Is...? I mean... how’s your New Year’s Eve going?” Alpha Eric admitted, “It’s starting off quite strangely. Dylan is loving it. Just a few seconds ago my mate did her space unheard shit.”

I asked, “Why?” He admitted, “I don’t know. I can’t hear them talking. It happened after a liaison popped in with her friend. She ordered the fairies to keep their discussions inside space unheard chants. She took off with her friend and her cousin followed closely after them. The fairies are losing their shit about something. I couldn’t tell you what because they are all following her command about it. I can only assume that’s because her Hackura brothers would know what they were saying otherwise.”

I gulped, “Are your mate and her friend ok?” Alpha Eric groaned, “Make it harder for me not to know things, Alpha Chase. Yes, they were fine.” I heard Beta Dylan shout, “YES! I WAS RIGHT! I knew it! I knew! You didn’t know it, Lucas! Not even you, God Alpha Prick! I KNEW IT! Now I must go off in search of my show. It seems to have popped away and we can’t have that! Don’t you worry I’ll track them down. Have no fear! The show must go on, but it can’t if I’m not there to watch it. Dylan is up, up, up, and away!”

Alpha Eric growled, “SHUT UP DYLAN!” I heard distinct Fealish being spoken in the background. Alpha Eric said, “I still don’t know things, Alpha Chase. I’ll contact you should you need to know something that I have no idea why you would need to know about.” I laughed, “What?”

Alpha Eric growled, “I will call you if something happens to the person, I do not know you care anything about. Clear enough?” I said, “Thank you.” Alpha Eric groaned, “I’m going to get in so much shit for this. I have to go.” He hung up.

Cameron said, “So now he knows that Lexi is BA. Because according to my Beta chat that's who is at the party with the Princess.” I asked, “How does he know that already?” Cameron snorted, “Beta Dylan has all the Beta’s in a group chat.” I stared at him.

I yelled, “MATT!” The man in question ran into the room. He asked, “Why are you shouting? What are we doing in here? The party is out there.” I asked, “Are you in a group chat with Beta Dylan?” Matt nodded, “It’s hilarious.”

I pressed, “Does it mention anyone I would be interested in knowing things about?” Matt said, “She’s there. Something got Faerie all aflutter.” His phone beeped, “And now Beta Dylan found Haley, his Luna, and the Black Arrow. He stole her candy, and he’s really excited about it.”

I asked, “Her candy? Lexi’s candy?” Matt nodded, “That’s what it says. He took BA’s candy. Everyone’s asking him what type of candy it is, and he’s gone silent.” I snorted. Matt explained, “He calls it his show. His fairy show, and he’s very much all about it. He’ll be back with commentary, I promise.” We went back out and joined the party.

A few hours later, I felt furious. What the hell? I quickly realized it wasn’t my emotions. I linked Matt, “What happened now?” Matt replied, “Umm you don’t want to know.” I growled, “YES, I do.” Matt replied, “I plead the fifth.”

I growled and started to search for Matt. By the time I found him he was having a quickie with Ted. I quickly walked away. I found Cameron and asked, “Where’s your Beta?” Cameron commented, “Doing the same thing as your Beta is, I image.” I smelled him, “You mean what you and your mate just did…”

We trailed off because the smell of a female in heat hit our noses. Snarls filled the air. I heard a pup’s scream. I took off with Cameron right behind me because we knew that scream, it was Susie. We came around the corner to see Kincade fighting off people. How the hell he was ignoring the scent of a heat, I’d never know.

I stared in shock at Reagan on the ground in pain. She was the she wolf in heat. Susie had a spatula and was actually fighting off a warrior by hitting him with it. Nadine was fighting as well. Cameron growled.

My roar stopped everything. I shouted, “Do NOT tell me you are fighting your lead warrior, my stepmother, AND MY SIX-YEAR-OLD SISTER to get to my brother’s Luna. TELL ME THAT’S NOT WHAT I SEE?!”
