My dad linked me, “Umm, I don’t think me leaving is a great idea.” I asked, “Why?” Lexi agreed to leave with Kincade instead. My dad linked me, “I really do like her.” Kincade went to take her, but she insisted on walking. Ted was beside her in moments. Between him and Kincade they got her out of the clearing and to the car.

We were all silent as we watched until she was in the car. I turned as Heath's icy cold voice warned, “If you don’t wipe that fake concern off your faces, I’ll kill each and every one of you here and now.” Their uncle said, “Let’s not be hasty. You couldn’t take us all.”

I argued, “He could but he’s not alone either. If he fights you, we will fight with him.” Tate scoffed, “As do I and you wouldn’t even see me coming. It’s kind of my whole thing.” Matt linked me laughing. James put his hands up saying, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is all a big misunderstanding.”

Heath asked, “Is it? So, your family didn’t abandon our parents and us? You didn’t just let them die? Then you didn’t all turn your backs on Lexi and me, to then criticize me for Lexi having a drug problem? You didn’t insult her string to her face?” They winced.

He threw his hands in the air, “Well, look at that Chase. We misunderstood the situation. Don’t you feel better? I KNOW I do.” He spat out sarcastically. I let my tone drip with sarcasm, “I feel so much better. I might not even murder the next person who so much as HINTS that the dead mother fucker is Lexi’s mate and not me.” Cameron sighed.

Their uncle laughed, “The dead mother fucker?” Heath waved his hand dismissively, “Noah has many nicknames. The fucking Troll is one of them. Someone you WILL meet calls him that.” That made me happy. Haley would eviscerate them because there was nothing standing in her way. They were not Alpha Eric’s allies. They were just assholes who hurt her friend. I liked that a lot.

Their uncle stepped forward, “I’m Jordan, your uncle.” Heath rolled his eyes, “You all are obsessed with J names, is what you are.” Their grandmother stepped forward, “I’m your mother’s mom.” Heath spat back, “You don’t say? I figured that out already. Facial features are a dead giveaway.”

She hesitated at the anger in his tone. She sighed asking, “Who will we meet? You said someone else calls Noah a nickname, the Troll.” Heath smirked, “It’s the fucking Troll, and she’s insistent her name is now the only one he has. Her name is Princess Luna Haley Cambridge Conners. I can honestly tell you I look forward to whatever shit she does to you. I’m not even going to try and stop her. She is viciously protective of those she loves.” Damn it. I was agreeing with him too much tonight.

James asked, “She loves you?” Heath snorted, “She loves Lexi. I’d be dead if she loved me.” I agreed, “He would be. Alpha Eric is crazy about his Fairy Hackura Princess.” Their grandfather stepped forward, “I’m Donald, your grandfather. Your father was my son.” Heath said, “Again, I put that together myself.” Donald gritted his teeth, “I excused your sister for her disrespect because she was on drugs. I’m almost at my limit.”

I raised an eyebrow saying, “You think Lexi would’ve been nicer to you not on drugs?” Heath snorted, “She’d have punched him.” I shot him a look, “Not just him.” Donald put his hands up, “Look, we were all lied to here.” Heath asked, “Were we? About what?”

Jordan answered, “We were told you didn’t want anything to do with us. That you were told about the fallout with your parents we’d all had. That you wanted to honor their wishes to have nothing to do with us. To be honest, we wanted to honor them too. I fought for us to have you guys, but they said no. I didn’t have a leg to stand on because your parents didn’t leave a will.” I snorted.

My dad said, “You’re joking. You let two little kids feel alone because you wanted to honor their parents’ wishes? Their parents were dead, murdered even. They needed you.” Donald’s jaw ticked, “Our son thought we’d killed someone we hadn’t.”

Heath questioned, “Who?” Donald said, “Your aunt. Izzy and Lizzy are twins on your mother’s side. They were a few years younger than your mother. Lizzy was murdered, and Jordan was framed. Your parents believed we were so against their union that Jordan murdered her sister to break them up.”

I questioned, “Why didn’t you want them together?” Jordan answered, “Their mother’s ex was insane.” Heath looked at his mother’s parents, “You obviously didn’t believe Jordan killed your daughter. You took their side after all.” They shook their heads.

Their mom’s father said, “No, but your parents wouldn’t listen to us. Before we lost Lizzy, we wanted Allison to come away with us. To leave everything, including your father, behind. They thought it was an elaborate trick on our part.”

Heath laughed humorlessly, “So that’s why you really left us alone all this time. If it were up to any of you Lexi and I wouldn't exist.” I growled at the thought. Jordan disagreed, “No, I wanted my brother to be happy. I didn’t care that it was with Allison. I just wanted him to kill her ex. Hell, I wanted to help.”

Heath said, “Yet you let him die, but putting that aside for a moment.” He turned to the rest of them saying. “So, Jordan didn’t want Lexi and I not to be born, but you all definitely didn’t want us to exist.” He said pointing at his grandparents. They all frowned.

Their father’s mom spoke, “We wanted to be in your lives. We sent you presents every year, but your parents always sent them back.” Heath asked, “Do you blame them? What I just said is true. If you had gotten your way I wouldn’t exist. Neither would Lexi.”

Their dad’s mom stepped forward, “This gets us nowhere. You do exist and we DID want you, but we were told you didn’t want us.” Heath asked, “By whom exactly?” She sighed, “Betty Newcome.” I glanced at Heath prepared to see him pissed. Instead, he looked confused and so did Tate.

Heath yelled, “Who the FUCK is that?” Jordan frowned, “She’s in your Shroud.” Heath disagreed, “No she’s not. I don’t have ANYONE by that name. Maiden name or married.” Donald blew out a breath, “We’ve been in touch with her for years. She’s the only one who will speak to people in our Shroud.” Heath reiterated, “Again no one by that name lives in my Shroud. Who is she?”

I linked my dad, “Nothing good comes from this answer.” I linked Cameron, “You might want to get ready to fight. I meant it when I said that if Heath goes at them, so do we.” Cameron replied, “I’m ready.” Their mother’s father stepped forward, “She’s the sister of your mother’s ex. Hanson Newcome.” I glanced at my dad in surprise.

Heath was incredulous and very, VERY pissed, “I’m sorry. So, if I’m following you. You’re saying that you think Hanson, who was OBSESSED with my mother and has now pointed his obsession to my little sister, killed your daughter Lizzy, right? I didn’t mistake that correlation.”

Jordan answered, “We know he killed Lizzy. It’s our belief she was his string.” My eyes couldn’t get wider. Jordan explained, “Lizzy passed everything to her human best friend, but her friend died shortly after giving birth to a daughter.”

Heath asked, “How is that relevant?” Jordan grimaced, “The diaries suggested Hanson was Lizzy’s string.” Heath asked, “That doesn’t tell me why it’s relevant. If the diary stated he was her string, you would’ve given it to my dad.”

James said, “She was our link to what Lizzy knew. We’d been trying to find where she left it all to prove to you guys that my dad was innocent.” Heath asked, “And the human’s name is?” James answered, “Regina Danvers.” Tate flashed beside Heath looking furious. Heath looked about ready to detonate.

I linked my dad, “I have no idea what that means, but Heath and Tate appear to know that name.” Heath had gone silent. My dad told me, “Something bad. It means something bad.” Matt linked me, “Chase, Ted told me the name of Heath’s first string. Her name was Dani Danvers.” I closed my eyes in frustration.

Heath ground out, “Don’t you FUCKING DARE be saying what I think you’re saying.” Now everyone was confused. Jordan asked, “What are we saying?” Tate scoffed, “You guys are terrible at looking out for people, aren’t you? You honestly don’t know. That’s sad.” Yes, they really were.

Heath shouted, “That my string WAS MURDERED by my mother’s ex to protect his identity.” James frowned, “Regina couldn’t have been your string. You wouldn’t have ever met her to know.” Heath screamed, “DANI! HER DAUGHTER DANI WAS MINE!”

Heath looked at Jordan glaring. He accused, “But you KNEW that! Didn’t you?” Jordan sighed, “I did. Not until after she died. I didn’t think she was murdered, Heath. I didn’t know that.” I anticipated Heath’s attack. I moved to block Donald’s move to prevent Heath from beating the crap out of Jordan. James was too stunned to move. He was looking at his father in surprise. Tate was doing whatever The Ghost does without killing people.

I punched Donald in the face. Someone whistled shrilly, “ENOUGH!” I noted it was their mom’s dad. Heath punched Jordan again then stood. I did notice Jordan let Heath hit him, and never raised his hand back. Bolt said, “I don’t want to defend them, but I think he was telling the truth. Heath didn’t even know his string was murdered until recently.” I had to agree.
