Emma began to cry. I said, “She’s hungry.” I flashed out to get her and flashed back. Heath grabbed my thigh as I started to nurse Emma. He said, “I have people here protecting the twins. I’m not going to let Emma, or you get hurt.” I whispered, “Who protects Chase?” Heath said, “I have people on him too.” I glanced up startled, “You do?” Heath nodding saying, “Tate and Zeke are on Chase as his shadows. Let’s keep that between us. I don’t think my soon to be brother-in-law would take it kindly.” I laughed, “No, I don’t think he would.”

I put Emma on my shoulder to burp her. I looked Heath in the eye, “Thank you.” He said, “There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you. Chase can be upset with me until the end of time. Do you want to hear something funny?” I replied, “God, yes.” Heath said, “I was talking to Chester the other night when he got here. Chase might not be the only Alpha being guarded discreetly.” Who? Oh my god. Eric. I gasped, “She didn’t.” Heath replied, “She did.” I laughed.

Heath continued, “Eric told his guard they would only be here if there was an active threat. After he got shot, Haley changed their orders. They are here too. Chester and Ithios came through a portal with his guards.” I laughed asking, “Does he know?” Heath said, “She told them not to tell him, so I’d bet not just yet.” I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

Finally, I said, “I don’t blame her.” Heath said, “Neither do I. If Allie got shot, she’d have to sneak out of the Shroud, and she’d have a time doing it with the amount of people I’d have guarding her.” I laughed. I teased, “I can just picture it now.”

Heath winced, “I don’t want to picture her hurt ever.” I grabbed his hand, “Hey, who would come after sweet little Allie?” Heath answered, “Plenty of people don’t like me, and they would hurt her to hurt me.” I said, “Good thing we won’t let that happen either.” Heath smiled, “Right you are.”

Emmett started to cry. I looked at Emma and teased, “Greedy little things.” Heath said, “You guys might want to do formula and breastmilk. It’s just a thought.” I said, “Maybe. I didn’t really have much time to make these decisions.” Heath chuckled, “No kidding.”

I ran out and swapped Emma and Emmett. I came back into my office and started to feed Emmett. Heath said, “You’re already a great mom, Lex. You also seem much calmer now.” I told him, “Oddly, Nadine is right, it helps to talk. I just felt such a crippling anxiety when they left my sight.” Heath assured me, “I think that’s normal. We will just keep an eye on you.” I mumbled, “I’d rather everyone keep an eye on them.”

Heath said, “We are. I’m just not going to lose sight of you. You are still a person yourself, and you need to take care of you too. That didn’t change because you are a mom.” I sighed, “Do you have to have such good points right now?” Heath smiled, “It’s a gift of mine.” I took mental stock of myself then said, “I think I’m ok now. I don’t really want them out of my sight though.”

Heath nodding, “I think that’s just going to take time. I hear there’s a wedding happening in April.” I asked, “How did you hear that already?” Heath proudly said, “I won a bet.” I laughed, “Who bet you about my wedding date?” Heath answered, “Frank thought you were a summer girl.” I shrugged that off, “Nah, I want to get married on April seventh just like mom and dad did.”

Heath teased, “It’s a good thing you're a party planner. That’s one heck of a quick turnaround.” I stuck my tongue out then said, “Maybe I have most of the things I want already. I just need Haley to conjure the dresses for me. I’ve had them picked out for years.”

Heath laughed, “Lexi Scott, you’ve had your wedding planned this entire time after your ‘I’m never getting married,’ even when you were dating Noah spiel?” I defended myself, “A lot of little girls dream of their weddings once or twice. Like you said I like to plan, and I like to be prepared. I had it already to go just in case you know I changed my mind.” Heath laughed, “You are too much.”

I pointed out, “Allie probably thought of her wedding once or twice.” Heath smiled, “She, not unlike you, wants to wait until after the twins are born.” I acknowledged, “I get that. Wait, I’m sorry. Twins? Allie is pregnant with twins?” He smirked, “Did I not mention that?” I smacked his arm, “Uh no! I’m so happy for you!” Heath said, “I bought the engagement ring already.” I squealed, “Let’s see it.” He pulled out a ring box. I teased, “Oh, so you just have it on hand.” Heath chuckled, “I’m always prepared.”

He opened the box and I saw a beautiful princess cut round diamond engagement ring. It had a vintage look to it. It was perfect for Allie. I smiled complimenting his taste, “It’s stunning.” He winked, “It just reminded me of her.” I said, “Good. I really think it suits her. It does just scream Allie.” Heath confirmed, “That’s what I thought too.”

We talked for a little bit longer before we joined the others. Chase instantly wrapped me up in his arms. He asked, “Are you ok?” I answered, “I think so. I just have so much anxiety about them being out of my sight.” Chase kissed my forehead, “I’ll protect our family.” I assured him, “I know you will.” I really did. I know he would do everything in his power to do just that. I just prayed to the War and Moon Goddesses it was enough. It had to be enough.

The next few weeks went by in a flash. Sally gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Zach. Derrick was on cloud nine and so was Sally. I was doing better at being away from the twins. Sometimes I didn’t even need a monitor. Dr April did refer me to the pack therapist just to monitor my feelings. Our sessions were cathartic just getting everything out. I didn’t want Chase to think I didn’t think he couldn’t protect our children, but it was terrifying that some crazy man out there thought our daughter belonged to him. The same man who murdered my mother, who seemed to have an army ready to do his bidding. It was just so much sometimes.

Thankfully, Ted and I were able to get everything scheduled for my wedding to Chase and it would be here on time. This is why I was always ready to go. Haley insisted on conjuring the place for our wedding and was keeping everything about it a secret. We’d sent out save the dates to everyone, and invitations followed right after. Everything was on track.

Life felt really good. The only hold out seemed to be that Chase and I couldn’t get our groove back in our sex life. It seemed like every time we tried to initiate things one of the twins would cry. I was beginning to think it was a giant conspiracy. I was scheduling a few more things for upcoming events when a pop sounded.

I greeted, “Hi, Hales.” She smiled, “Hey Lex, how goes being a new mom?” I admitted, “It can be overwhelming at times, but really good. Now if only I could have sex again things would be great.” Haley frowned and tilted her head, “I healed you, you could fuck if you wanted to.” I said, “I know and I do want to. It’s just the small problem of the twins crying whenever we start anything.” Haley frowned.

She was quiet for several moments then squealed, “I have the BEST fucking idea! It was one of my potential ideas from google for Ted’s Bachelor/Bachelorette party, but Gunner vetoed it.” I asked, “How would this get me laid?” Haley waved dismissively saying, “You just leave that me.” I teased, “A stunning turn of events.” Haley stuck her tongue out.

She looked at the clock and asked, “When do the twins go down for the night?” I answered, “Six thirty.” She nodded, “That’s perfect. You and Chase be ready at seven. I’ll pop back and bring you. Prepare to get lucky!” I faltered, “I don’t know Haley... they could…” Haley assured me, “I will get you THE perfect babysitter. The twins will be fine.”

I raised an eyebrow, “Who on earth is the perfect babysitter?” Haley smiled answering, “My mom.” She popped away. Frank might lose his shit, but Haley wasn’t wrong. Veronica was the perfect babysitter. Titus made her travel with her guard and the woman was deadly enough herself.

I walked into Chase’s office. I announced, “We are having some sort of date night.” Chase looked up started, “What?” I explained, “Haley is popping us somewhere at seven. I have no other details except that we are to be ready.” Chase smiled, “I could be ok with that.” I looked around his office then I shut the door quietly. He questioned, “Why did you do that?”

I slammed him against the wall and kissed him. I explained, “So the twins don’t wake up.” He growled into my mouth. I had his shirt off and mine quickly followed. I was running my hands all over him when we heard the first cry. I put my head onto Chase's chest and sighed.

Chase said, “We’ll figure it out one day.” I grumbled, “It’s officially a conspiracy.” I grabbed my shirt and sped out of the room. I passed Derrick and Matt. Matt yelled, “Why do we all have to be ready at seven?” I answered, “Some sort of fairy plan I guess.”

I ran into my room. I picked up Emmett and sat down to feed him. I said, “Little man, you and your sister need to find an ounce of chill. I’m not even talking much either. At this point mommy and daddy need like fifteen minutes. Mommy is going to combust if you don’t let me get some of your daddy.”

Chase’s amused voice came over the monitor, “Lexi, the monitor is on, and we can hear you.” I did not care one bit. I challenged, “Argue ONE thing I just said to our son.” His laughter came across the monitor. Matt said, “We didn’t need to know that.” I shot back, “Yeah well, if I don’t get laid soon, I’m going to announce it to the whole damn pack because they need to know their Luna will just burst and disappear at any moment.” Now all of them were laughing.

I whispered to Emmett, “Mommy is serious.” Emmet cooed at me. I nuzzled his nose with mine, “Yeah, you’re lucky you’re so damn cute.” Emma woke up next and I fed her. Chase came upstairs. He offered, “Why don’t you hop into the shower, and I’ll get them.” I nodded then quickly got into the shower.

I realized I was actually excited to go out. I dried my hair at record speed. Then put on some make up. I stepped back out after putting Chase’s hoodie on. Chase carefully asked, “Not that I’m complaining, but how did Haley convince you to get out of the house?” I said, “She swears she is bringing the perfect babysitter.” Chase questioned, “Who? And mind you we will NEVER tell my dad this person is the perfect babysitter.” I answered, “Veronica.”

Chase stalled then asked, “Queen Veronica, of the Hackura, is going to babysit our pups?” I said, “Veronica loves babies, and they will be asleep while we are gone.” Chase said, “I see.” I asked, “What?” Chase shrugged, “I’ve just been saying we could go out for a few weeks now, but you didn’t want to.” I defended my choice, “That’s not true, I did want to. But Veronica is deadly, and she comes with her guard because Titus doesn’t let her come without them.”

Chase chuckled, “Ahhh there it is.” I swatted him, “I’m trying.” He kissed my nose, “I know.” I walked into the closet. I grabbed a black t-shirt dress. I should’ve asked Haley what we were doing. We put the twins down for bed. Then I grabbed Chase’s hand and walked downstairs.
