Kincade linked me, “We are being called in. Whatever she’s doing, she’s about to tell us.” I sighed. Did everyone get to know before me? We were going to have to talk about the order of which people got told the plan.
Kyler linked me, “The Luna ordered us not to tell you anything.” I growled, “MOTHER FUCKER!” My dad winced, “What?” I shook my head and linked Kyler back, “Can you report anything?” Kyler said, “I’m no longer with the Luna. Only Kincade and Kevin are.” I punched the desk, “MOTHER FUCKING SON OF A BITCH! How does she even know she can do that?!”
Derrick questioned, “Do what?” I answered, “Order my men not to tell me something.” Alpha Jackson snorted. Alpha Eric said, “Haley knows that. We don’t know who told her, but she knows.” I growled, “Of course she does. FUCK!” Alpha Eric announced, “They aren’t here anymore.”
Dr. April linked me, “ALPHA! The Luna is gone!” I replied, “I know.” She shouted, “YOU KNOW?! I need her back! Her blood pressure hasn't gone down enough yet.” I said, “I’ll bring her back, and then you can monitor her.” I slammed my link shut.
I asked, “Heath, where did they go?” Heath admitted, “I don’t know.” Derrick said, “Sally says they took Uther and Blade with them. That’s something.” I yelled, “Well la di fucking da. I feel better. Doesn’t everyone? WHERE THE HELL IS MY MATE?!”
Matt growled, “Ask Sally if Ted is with Lexi.” Derrick was silent then said, “He went with them.” Matt shouted, “SERIOUSLY?! Great. He says it’s fine because he has a gun.” Heath assured him, “Denise won’t hurt Ted, she’s not a fighter. She couldn’t take Lexi even if she was in labor. Hell, not even if Lexi was seriously injured, let alone with Haley.”
I pointed out, “Haley could get hit with iron.” Alpha Eric growled. Heath said, “Even without her fairy powers Haley is a deadly force of nature. Her Hackura brothers made sure of that.” Alpha Jackson agreed, “She is. When she was taken…” Alpha Eric growled again.
Jackson continued, “She took three iron darts, and still saved our mother’s life. If not for Arion she would’ve never been taken. That’s all alone too. She’s like an oxymoron, wrapped up in a cute, tiny package who is ready to strike and become a lethal weapon.”
I yelled, “For the LOVE OF GOD WHERE ARE THEY?” I looked at Alpha Eric, “You are oddly calm about this.” Alpha Eric raised an eyebrow saying, “Looks can be deceiving. I’ve also read an extensive file on Denise Calvert. Heath is not wrong about his assessment. She’s not a fighter. I also just asked Haley where they are.” I growled, “Which is where?” Alpha Eric answered, “Haley said she’ll be popping to get us shortly.”
My phone rang. I looked at the readout answering, “Sophia?” Sophia sounded amused, “I just got a warning from a pack member of yours. At the direction of your Luna to be on alert.” I said, “Of course you did.” Sophia sounded happy, “It was nice.” I bit back, “Nice is a word.” Sophia chuckled, “Coordinate with her Chase, she’s good.” With that Sophia hung up.
I said, “If only she knew I was the one who needed to be coordinated WITH.” My phone rang. It was Lexi. The conversation pissed me off further. I linked Matt, “She does realize I am a PART of our family. Why the HELL am I the last to know about this fucking plan?” Matt replied, “Technically speaking we were all the last to know.” I shot him a withering look.
Lexi hung up after saying I couldn’t growl. My dad said, “Chase…” I snarled, “WHAT?!” My phone rang. Matt answered, “Hello again, Cameron.” Cameron asked, “Why did your lead warrior just call and tell me to be on alert? You already told me that.” I snarked back, “My mate is trying to run me into an early grave that’s why. I have to go.” I hung up.
Heath said, “My Uncle Jordan and cousins are there with mics up. They sent me the link. I have extra earpieces. We can listen to what’s being said.” I said, “I appreciate the thought, but I will be able to hear them.” Heath said, “Right. I forgot about that. Jordan is an archer, a good one.” I scoffed, “She’ll be dead long before his arrow could fly if she makes ONE move towards Lexi. I’ll rip her to pieces.”
Haley popped into my office announcing, “You're up. Let’s go.” Everyone took each other's hands. Haley grabbed hold of Eric and we were popped out of my office to tree cover. Matt grabbed Ted and yanked him behind him. I could see Denise running up.
I closed my eyes when I realized she was the woman who’d looked angry when she found out Lexi was pregnant that day at the Shroud. She was the leak, I was certain. I was ready to shift and rip her apart. Bolt said, “I like your plan. Let’s just say she twitched.” I rolled my eyes but secretly debated doing just that.
Alpha Eric linked me, “The plan is to talk to her and get her to confess that she’s Betty. She wants to get all the answers she can before she realizes she’s caged. Uther is a step away from Lexi.” I nodded. The plan likely had more details, but for now that was good. The wind blew and I stiffened. There was an unknown scent here. I turned towards the smell. Alpha Eric linked me, “Haley said that’s the Troll’s brother. Lexi called him and told him to meet her here.” I took out my phone and typed a message to Heath.
Me:Why would Lexi bring Noel Calvert here?
Heath:I don’t…. holy shit.
Me:WHAT?
Heath:Denise is Betty.
Me:Welcome to the party the rest of us arrived at that conclusion earlier. How does Noel Calvert’s presence get you there?
Heath:Noel’s eyes…They are Lizzy’s. Hanson gave his sister his son to raise.
Me:Are you shitting me?
Heath:Nope.
I linked my dad, “Do you want to know why Lizzy looked familiar to you?” My dad questioned, “Is now the right time?” I retorted, “That unknown scent you're trying to sniff out is it familiar to you, right?” My dad answered, “Yes, It’s that Noel kid... holy shit.” I said, “Yup.”
My dad linked, “He’s Lizzy’s son?” I said, “It’s looking that way.” My dad commented, “Your mate, she’s good, son.” I growled, “I am aware.” My dad chided me, “If you stalk off and don’t talk to her about your feelings, I’ll take you over my knee. You hear?” I scoffed, “Yeah, yeah, old man. I hear you.”
I choked on my growl when Lexi said she didn’t want Noah to die. Alpha Eric linked, “That’s a bluff. A good one, but she’s lying.” I growled, “She’d better be. He’s dead. I won’t let him live.” Alpha Eric said, “Neither will my wife. She’s been itching to kill him for years. Bjourn obviously agreed Noah is officially a problem several months ago. It frees her from her promise not to kill him until he’s a problem.”
Lexi led Denise into spilling her secrets. I was deeply proud of her while being so raging pissed off, I wanted to rip this clearing apart. Kincade linked me, “She commanded us not to tell you.” I responded, “I’m aware. You came with her and are guarding her. You did your job.” Kincade apologized, “I’m sorry, Alpha.” I said, “You have nothing to be sorry for. You followed the orders of your Luna.”
I linked Matt, “Do we really believe Edgar knows nothing?” Matt said, “He’d have to be a complete idiot not to know SOMETHING. Or there’s some hell of spell on the man. He’s got to have some suspicions.” Denise’s eyes were wild, which told me she was losing it. She seemed to believe she had the upper hand on Lexi right now.
Denise let loose a terrible laugh. I linked my pack members that were present, “Get ready to move. She does NOT touch Lexi.” We all leaned forward. Lexi kept pushing Denise. She looked like she was going to lose it until Lexi mentioned her mother.
