Me:Who is going to be there for you?

Heath:Isaiah is here. Someone is coming over to cook dinner with me too. Tate and Kylie are coming over when she gets back.

Me:Love you Heath.

Heath:Love you too

I felt intense relief knowing Chase was on his way. I suddenly felt gross. Haley had snapped me clean, but I could still feel the blood on my hands. I turned on my shower. I took my clothes off on autopilot. I scrubbed my hands for a moment before the dam burst inside me.

I sank to the floor and curled into a ball. I sobbed because I saw Anne that way, and for Ted seeing it alone. I should’ve gone with him before I went to Heath. We could’ve had Haley there sooner. He shouldn’t have had to see that by himself.

I cried because seeing Anne reminded me of seeing my mother. I was spiraling until I felt sparks on my skin. Chase put me in his lap. He must have shifted and run here because he was already naked. There was nothing sexual about this though.

I sobbed what were probably unintelligible words to him. Chase turned off the water and picked me. I felt numb. Not the drugged kind of numb, but the spiraling hurting kind of numb. The kind of feelings I took pills to avoid. I knew I’d have a flashback tonight, and I didn’t want it.

Chase dried me off. I could make out his features were tinged in anger, but he was pushing that down for me. He carried me to the bed and started looking through my drawers. I couldn’t bring myself to ask what he was looking for. He walked back over with a comfy sports bra and underwear. He grabbed his Hoodie that I had been wearing off the floor. Haley had snapped it clean, thank god.

He put it over my head once I’d put on my bra and underwear. He whispered, “I’ve got you, Lexi.” I cried, “Why would he hurt her?” Chase answered, “I don’t know.” I told him about Anne, “She’s so sweet and kind. She’s never hurt anyone, not even a fly. They had a mouse once, and she refused to let Tony get a trap that would kill it. She set up this elaborate cheese pot and stick trap. It took weeks. The mouse could get in and eat the cheese without tripping it. She would just laugh, and say they had a smart mouse. When they finally caught it after several months she cried when they let it go outside. She said she would miss the little rascal.”

Chase slid into the other side of my bed and pulled me to him. He comforted me, “She’s ok. Haley healed her.” I cried, “I wish I would’ve known her back when I little, then she could’ve saved my parents. I HATE the fairies! I would’ve known her if she was with her Hackura family.”

Chase kissed my head as I cried. For myself, my parents, my brother, Ted, and his family. I wiped my tears, “Ted’s not meant to see that type of stuff.” Chase assured me, “Matt has him, and Derrick is holding down the fort.”

That triggered me to remember Chase was going to the wedding that was going to be attacked alone. I sobbed, “You’re going to Lacy’s wedding alone!” Chase sounded confused, “Hey, it’s ok that you can’t come, Sweetheart.” I cried, “No, you think there’s going to be an attack here and there. You’re going without Matt or Derrick.”

Chase rubbed my thigh, “I’m not going alone. My brother is coming, and I’ll take warriors with me.” I sniffled, “Kincade and Kevin. You’ll take them?” Chase stiffened, “They can’t be with you?” I shook my head, “No, but they can be with you.” Chase laughed, “Sweetheart, even if they couldn’t come, I wouldn’t be alone. I’ll be with my allies. Haley will be there too.”

That made me relax. That was right. Haley was going, and she knew I was his string. She wouldn’t let anything happen to Chase. We laid there for a while not saying anything. Chase kissed my temple, “I’m going to cook us some food.” I held him tight, “I can’t be alone right now.” Chase stilled asking, “Are there pills in the house?” I shook my head, “No, but I’m fast. I could leave.”

Chase held me to him, “I won’t leave you. I’ll link Kincade and Kevin for pizza. Matt and Ted want to join us. Do you want to go to his place, or bring them here?” I said, “Let’s go to them.” Chase smiled, “Ted’s worried about you.”

I blew out my breath, “I’m worried about him. He’s never seen anything like that before, and it was his mother.” Chase nuzzled my neck, “He’ll be alright. She’s ok.” I put my head into my hands, “He said he understood me. He finally understood why I took pills.” Chase said, “Matt will handle him. Anne seems like the type who would hit him over the head with a roller pin if he did drugs.” I laughed, “She is.”

Chase casually asked, “What male was comforting Ted besides his father?” I laughed, “Haley said that would get Matt’s possessive juices going.” Chase paused then asked, “He did it on purpose?” I quickly answered, “No, Haley told us when we got back here the unknown male smell would drive Matt up a wall once he knew Ted was alright.”

Chase admitted, “He’s growling in my head demanding I ask you because he doesn’t want to upset Ted. Is it an ex?” I laughed, “Nooooo. It’s Tate’s scent.” Chase frowned, “I’m going to need more information. Who is Tate?” I nudged him, “Ted’s older brother.” Chase laughed, “Oh really?” I nodded, “He just got back from a mission, and walked into that shitshow. It was a fine welcome home.”

Chase sighed, “I’m sure that wasn’t easy for him.” I looked at the clock on my wall, “His string should be home by now. They were going to Heath’s for dinner. Their dad walked in while Haley was healing Anne. It was bad. Her brains were literally on her lamp along with her blood. I feel like it was to punish Ted and me, but that kind of rage... Why would Noah feel rage for Anne? She’s nice to everyone, even him.”

I think that was the first time in a long time I’d said his name. It must be the shock. Chase admitted, “I don’t know, but if he comes to my territory or any of my allies, he’s dead.” I rubbed my face, “He’s working with witches. I just don’t understand what’s going on. Part of me worries he’s going to betray Heath in some deeper way. I just don’t understand it. What could his motive be behind attacking Anne? Our people would never accept him as a leader. They wouldn't follow him.”

Chase gritted his teeth, “Sure they would.” I said, “They wouldn’t.” Chase growled, “If he had you by his side they would.” I shook my head, “Then he’d have to have Heath killed, and I would never be by his side. It would’ve been Sally.” Chase gently said, “I’m not saying it makes sense. It doesn’t, but we don’t have the full picture of what’s going on.”

I pursed my lips, “He isn’t smart enough to do this. That’s not a dig, he’s just not a leader. He’s more of a numbers guy. If he’s doing this the numbers somewhere tell him he’s going to be successful.” Chase held me close, “He will NEVER have you Lexi Scott. You are mine! He is an ant that is going to get squashed. My allies would go with me anywhere to bring you home back to me. He can’t have you. I won’t let him.”

I smiled promising him, “I’m just yours, Chase Daniels.” Chase smiled, “Damn right, Sweetheart.” He kissed me then pulled back, “The food is as Ted’s.” I got up and grabbed some black yoga pants. I threw water on my face. Chase was waiting in my living room.

He held out his hand and we walked together to Ted’s place. Ted’s arm reached out and grabbed Chase pulling him in. I laughed because I could see it happening. Chase was momentarily startled but recovered quickly.

Matt greeted me, “How are you, Lex?” I shrugged, “Ted, are you alright?” Ted hugged me, “We don’t do that deflecting shit in this house. I let you do that before. Never again. Are you ok?” I begrudgingly answered, “I’ll have a bad dream tonight, I’m sure. Chase came over and he stayed with me. I’m ok. How are you?”

Ted nodded to Chase, “You’ve got my girl tonight, right?” Chase nodded, “I’ve always got her.” Ted bumped my hips with his, “Wolves, right? Haley was not wrong. Matt got all possessive.” I laughed, “I know.”

Ted’s face lit up and he whirled around. He teased, “You linked Chase to ask Lexi about the smell on me?” Matt kicked a rock with his shoe while holding four boxes of pizza. He answered, “Well, I couldn’t ask you. You’d been TRAUMATIZED. Lexi was the best person to ask.” I laughed, “Tate wants to meet you.”

Matt grumbled, “Now that I know the smell is Tate, I would like to meet him too. I had other plans for the owner of said smell, but luckily for him he’s my mate’s brother. No plans necessary for taking advantage of my mate in his grief.”

I laughed, “Tate’s string is super sweet. She’ll want to meet you too.” Matt winked, “Anne told me all about her.” Ted burst into tears again, “I wouldn’t have gone…” I cut him off, “You did go. Be honest Ted, you couldn’t come to my meeting with Heath. Where would you have ended up?”
