Lexi called, “Bye Chase, I’ll be sure to drunk text you later.” I laughed, “I'll look forward to that.” Matt perked up, “I can’t WAIT for drunk Ted texting.” I said, “You know who needs to get drunk together?” Matt asked, “Who?” I answered, “Beta Dylan and your TeleTed. We’d have to record it.” Matt howled, “That would be hilarious.”
We shifted and ran back to the house. Derrick was there waiting. I evaluated him, “You ok now, Derrick?” Derrick nodded, “Weirdest thing, I’m fine now. I’ve got fifteen warriors loaded up. Let’s go.” I nodded. I looked around but didn’t see the car I’d damaged earlier. Derrick said, “I got it to the shop. Hopefully your dad was too busy with the young warriors to notice.”
Matt snorted, “He saw it happen.” I said, “An attack happened in my territory. An attack on our Beta Male’s friends. I’m allowed to be pissed.” Matt held up his hand, “It still wasn’t our territory. I’m going to go over the boundaries with you tomorrow.” I nearly stuck my tongue out at him.
I got in the driver’s seat and started the car. Matt pouted, “So I only get to drive when you’re so angry you’re destroying cars? Not even when I know where we are going, and you don’t?” I huffed, “Just give directions.” I started the car, and we took off.
When we were close enough, we got out. It was a secluded cabin we could attack in wolf form. We took off. We weren’t very far from our cars when I smelled blood, a lot of blood. We came upon ten dead bodies outside the cabin.
I burst inside and found more dead people, then found an office. I came face to face with the Hood himself. He had a Hood where you could only see his mouth. His eyes had a covering, but you could barely make them out anyway. He had a sword in his hand, dripping with blood. I shifted back.
One of my warriors came in with shorts for Matt and I. Matt shifted. The Hood smirked at him. He greeted, “You must be Beta Matt Miller, our TeleTed’s string.” Matt said, “I am.” I pointed out, “Which you already knew.” He’d have gotten his picture.
The Hood ignored me saying, “I am glad to see Ted so happy, and I’m glad you have progressive Alpha. I’d have disliked waging war against your pack and your allies, but it would’ve been done.” I said, “We came to avenge what happened in our area today. To our Beta Male’s friend.” The Hood commented, “Interesting. I believe it is Alpha Eric’s territory unless boundary lines have changed. His men just left. Somehow, you and I have both arrived a tad late. You more so than me. I did get to kill some of them.” Wow, he did not like me at all.
I asked, “You didn’t kill everyone outside?” The Hood laughed, “I did kill some those outside. I killed the three in the main room too. This man though,” He pointed at the man with a bullet through his brain then continued, “He was who I wanted to talk to. The powder burn on his head suggests his men outside didn’t know anyone had breached their perimeter. Whoever his killer was, that person didn't want to fight all those men.”
Matt asked, “Did Alpha Eric kill him?” I snorted answering, “With a gun? Absolutely not.” Heath nodded, “They were busy killing those men outside. We had a quick chat, then they got popped away.” I kept my voice even, “Your man named Noah or his family; could they do this? That’s who this was about according to our information.”
The Hood shook his head, “They are locked down right now. It couldn’t have been them.” I pressed, “Does Noah have a brother or sister that could’ve done this?” The Hood glared at me, “He has a younger brother. He’s a bit of a handful, but he’s also on lockdown. He’s just an angry kid.” I snorted, “So the brothers are alike.” The Hood disagreed, “No, they really aren’t.” Sure.
I looked down and noticed a tape in the Hood’s hands. The Hood addressed me, “You’d be Alpha Chase then.” I answered, “I would be, but again; you knew that.” Matt linked, “Holy tension, Batman.” Agreed. He definitely knew about me and Lexi, and he likely knew I was married.
The Hood asked, “What do you know about Noah?” I smirked. This was easier than I’d thought it was going to be. I told him, “Ironically enough, I was looking into a way to get information to you. I thought that would be difficult.” The Hood tensed, “Why were you looking for me?”
I was about to evade the hell out of this with my mate’s brother. One day, we’d laugh about it: maybe. Bolt huffed, “He doesn’t like us.” I could tell that. I told him, “TeleTed is a wealth of information. He told my Beta all about his partner, Lexi Scott, and her first love. He seems to think she needs to get laid.” The Hood laughed, “He would.”
I fought my growl, “My Beta informed me this Noah person, who is the string of Sally Quaid, tricked Lexi Scott the night before her birthday. Apparently, it messed her up good.” The Hood’s tone was now angry, “Did he? I’ll have to ask her what that means. I have a good idea what could’ve gone down now that you put it that way.”
I continued, “My information says Noah is a danger to both Sally and Lexi. Wolves heard him outside her office today saying that he wanted them both. He was afraid Sally would reject him but thought maybe that meant he could have Lexi regardless.” The Hood stiffened, “That will NOT happen. I think we both already know that though, don’t we?”
Matt linked, “Shiiiitttttt.” I said, “We do not allow attacks like this in this area. Keep Noah away from here. He’s not welcome and is a kill on site target to our pack. I think it goes without saying that goes for Alpha Eric’s area as well. The word on the street is his Angel doesn’t like Noah.” The Hood frowned, “No, Haley doesn’t like him.”
I changed the subject, “Have you played that?” I pointed to the tape. The Hood answered, “Not yet. Do you know what it is?” I admitted, “I have a pretty good idea. Something tells me you won’t like it. It was interesting to meet you.” The Hood studied me for several moments then replied, “Likewise. You are not what I thought you would be. A young Alpha, I have to say I didn’t think you’d even look into this, or I’d have already been gone.” I smirked, “It’s not my style to do nothing.”
The Hood said, “So I see. You did get beaten here by two groups, but I’d imagine you were busy.” So, he was just going to subtly throw that I was Lexi’s mate all over the place The Hood nodded to Matt, “Good to meet you, Beta Matt.” He shook his hand then glared at me, “Alpha Chase.” Bolt was both furious and devastated in my head. I told him, “It’s not your fault, it's me.” Bolt huffed, “He has to know the marriage isn’t real.” Yes, he likely did or he’d have hit me.
I went outside and gave my warriors instructions, “Get rid of the bodies. Once the Hood leaves in a blur you will have to watch for, search the cabin. I’d imagine he took everything of interest but see if you can’t find something he missed. He probably thinks this was just a bookie out for money. We know otherwise. I want everything you can find.” They nodded, “Yes, Alpha.”
I looked at the time. I inclined my head, “Derrick, stay here and monitor the cleanup. Matt, we are moving.” Derrick nodded. We got in the car, and I watched my Gamma for a second. I commented, “He seems distracted.” Matt nodded, “He will be fine. A good night's sleep and a TeleTed talk will fix him right up. Why are we leaving?”
I pointed at the clock as I started the car. I explained, “Susie will be done with school shortly. I want to hear about how it went. You are coming because I’m a hare trigger away from going on murderous rampage.” Matt nodded and I gunned it back to the house.
I ran inside and grabbed a shirt in my office. I watched Susie come out of the school with Wendy and another girl. They were all animatedly talking. Susie was beaming. I turned to see both Nadine and my dad smiling at the scene in front of them. Nadine was wiping tears away from her eyes.
Susie waved her friends and ran over to Nadine and dad. She was talking a mile a minute. She looked at my office and I waved to her. She squealed and grabbed both their hands and led them to the house. My dad raised an eyebrow at me. I didn’t react.
Susie slammed the front door open and barreled into my office. I caught her in a hug. She squealed, “CHASE! CHASE! CHASE! I had the BEST DAY EVER! My class is the BEST! I have two new friends! Wendy and Charlotte. They both said they would come to my tea party HERE! They can come, can’t they?” I laughed agreeing, “Of course they can. Your friends are welcome here anytime.” Susie shouted, “I HAVE FRIENDS, CHASE! Real friends, not imaginary ones! You are the BEST big brother EVER, EVER, EVER!” I laughed.
Linus linked me, “Alpha Sophia is pacing her border like a well honestly like a raving lunatic.” I sighed, “Susie, I have to go, but I’m so glad you had a good day.” She smiled, “BEST.DAY.EVER!” She ran to Nadine and started recounting her day from the minute we left.
I linked Matt, “We need to get to our border.” My dad said, “You were right about her going to school. It’s good. It’s the right thing to do. I also know you are hiding something, but you seemed better today. Until you destroyed an SUV, now you seem fine again. What the hell is going on with you?”
I simply said, “I’m handling it. Speaking of, I have to go handle Sophia.” My dad laughed, “Your Gamma brought back a prisoner from her territory. I’d imagine that’s why she’s upset.” I paused, “Thanks for the heads up.”
I linked Derrick, “You already got Former Gamma Wallace here?” Derrick replied, “They practically gift wrapped him for me. I didn’t even have to argue with anyone. It might have been the crazy angry look in my eye, or it was the fact that Matt told me you were going with the husband reason. I walked into their territory and told them you were going to question him as her husband. I’d like to say it was angry eyes, but who can positively say which reason is why they gave him to me with a little bow on his head.”
I praised him, “You are an amazing Gamma.” Derrick replied, “Is that the kind of amazing meaning you’ll overlook my blow up this morning?” I said, “I’m only worried about you. I don’t care that you got upset.” Derrick sighed, “I don’t know what’s going on.” I assured him, “We will figure it out. Or we’ll task Matt to figure it out because his brain will force him to come up with answers.” Derrick laughed in reply.
