Haley grumbled, “There better be a note to go along with this. A just in case note. Jesus fucking Christ! Can everything just calm the fuck down?!” Bexley said, “You know, whatever was upsetting you yesterday I’ll listen if you wish to share your sorrow.”
Haley said, “I’m not saying that shit out loud, no matter what Alania says. I do appreciate the offer though.” Ted mouthed, “Again she said it again.” I answered, “I don’t think she’s going to call her mother any time soon.” Bexley hung up after Haley said goodbye. Haley left a message for King Arthur with his day person to call her when he rose.
Then she began to pace. I asked, “Haley?” She held up her hand then said, “It has to be Alexander. I know I’m going to have more children, but that warning just feels right that it’s for Alexander’s mate.” I frowned, “Why?”
Haley groaned, “I don’t fucking know why I just know, and that’s infuriating. When I go through names I like, and ones Eric and I have talked about I feel nothing. When I say Alexander’s, it just rings true. It’s his mate.”
She threw out her arm and the wind flew around my office. She cursed, “FUCK ALANIA! That’s my son! She’s going to put that cryptic shit out for us to figure out when it’s about MY SON! FUCK HER AND FUCK THIS SHIT! How am I supposed to protect him?! How am I supposed to protect his mate?! All I know is that she will be in your territory at some point. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT HELPFUL?!”
I was about to say something then she added, “And Arion just invades my dreams instead of pulling me to the beyond. Her bitch ass isn’t pulling me to the beyond either! So, I can’t ask her about it. UGHHH!” Holy shit, I think Heath was right. Why wouldn’t Arion pull her to the beyond unless she would figure out her mother wasn’t there?
I said, “I don’t think it is supposed to be helpful. Now that we are fairly certain it’s Alexander maybe I can get him here in time.” Haley scoffed, “How? Are you just going to call him every time some unmated female shows up? THIS IS NOT FUCKING HELPFUL ALANIA!” Haley shouted at the ceiling.
Ted teased, “I don’t think she can hear you.” Haley disagreed, “Yes, she can. Our fairy relatives can hear us yell at them in the beyond.” Which I was certain Alania wasn’t in. I said, “Let’s go get a drink.” Haley agreed, “All the fucking drinks.”
Ted cautiously said, “It’s noon.” Haley frowned, “And?” I shrugged, “Yeah, it’s five o’clock somewhere.” Haley groaned, “Again, WHY DOES THAT MATTER?” I laughed, “Let me just do one thing.” I poked my head out, “Haley and I going for drinks.”
Kevin looked startled. I was just glad they’d already gotten back from dropping food off for Carry. Kevin asked, “Where are you going?” Haley answered, “Lexi’s.” She grabbed my hand and popped us out. Haley snapped us each four drinks. She slammed all of hers, so I did as well. Then, she snapped us more.
We followed that pattern for several hours. We danced and sang songs at the top of our lungs. At a certain point we decided the house was an inferno. We both stripped down to our underwear. I asked, “Are we talking about yesterday?” Haley replied, “What’s there to talk about? Alania is a bitch. It was true yesterday, and it’s true today. In a shocking turn of events, I bet it’s fucking true tomorrow.” I snorted, “I’ll drink to that.”
We kept drinking. My mind was swirling. I said, “She could’ve saved my parents.” Haley agreed, “She could’ve and should’ve, fucking bitch.” I said, “Agreed. I need to call Heath.” I dialed but it went to voicemail.
As I was leaving a message he called back. I laughed, “I was just leaving you a message.” Heath was quiet. Then asked, “Are you drunk?” I hiccupped, “No, you’re drunk.” I started laughing. Heath said, “Lex….” I told him, “I opened the Fairy Queen’s letter. Bex is trying to find some key to get us in that vault thingy sooner.”
Heath said, “Okkkk….” I huffed, “She could have saved our parents. She saw their death, and she did nothing. Haley’s right, Alania is a bitch.” Heath asked, “Was that ever up for debate? She was a Fairy, the Queen actually.” I pointed out, “Haley’s not a bitch.” Heath replied, “Yes, but Haley’s a partial fairy.”
Haley’s phone rang. She answered, “Eric.” I snorted. Heath commented, “So you’re with Haley.” I said, “Yup, we both got letters. I can’t imagine hers was any more fun than mine or had any actual answers. I stupidly thought I’d get some damn answers. Now I have more questions. I have so many questions in my life, and I’m tired of them.”
Heath said, “That’s understandable. Remember who you are with though.” I sighed. He was talking about Chase. Specifically, about Haley not officially knowing I’d met him. I admitted, “I feel like shit about that.” Haley hung up her phone frowning. I said, “Gotta go, Heath.” I hung up before he could reply.
Haley asked, “You feel like shit about what?” I evaded, “Secrets.” Haley laughed, “Sometimes, we have to keep secrets. No one I know can even argue with me about that anymore.” I stuck my tongue ok, “I’ll bet Cassbitchandra would argue with you.”
Haley snorted, “She could try. She can keep a secret though. If she thinks she can saddle her hypocrisy horse and ride it, she’s got another thing coming.” I laughed so hard that some of my drink came out my nose. That set us both off.
Her phone rang again. She sighed, “I have to go.” I asked, “Eric?” Haley smirked, “I might have been teasing him for the last several hours. He’s reached the end of his rope. What rope? I don’t fucking know. I’m sure it’s a saying. Whatever rope he’s at the end of, it’s just too bad because it’s catch the fairy time.” She popped out.
I turned up my music and made myself another drink and started to dance. I turned when I heard someone come in. Not like I needed to be worried. It could only be so many people. I smiled when I saw it was Chase. He looked worried, but he shouldn't wrinkle his face. His face was too beautiful to be worried. Stupid former Fairy Queen and her dumb letters from the beyond making me worry my mate. Then I blacked out.
When I woke up the next day I felt fine. I put off having a conversation with Chase about what I’d learned until our getaway. Alania let my parents die, and it pissed me off. I couldn’t fathom how Haley had any of that woman’s DNA. She always helped people. That bitch let my parents die when Haley would’ve done everything in her power to stop it from happening. I didn’t understand the Fairy Queen. She couldn’t even have just given me the damn key to getting into the stupid vault so I could know who my mother’s fucking ex was.
Time began to fly by. Haley dropped off an invitation for Emmaline’s birthday party. I briefly stopped by to give Emmaline one of my calling cards. I hoped she didn’t need to use it, but I wanted her to have it just in case.
I was leaving when Heath texted me. He said since I was already in my BA gear, he wanted me to finish off the coven in Alpha Raven’s territory. Apparently, they’d come back after I’d killed their new leader. I rolled my eyes. Couldn’t he have decided that the first time around? I found them quickly and killed them all. No one screamed this time to alert anyone, so I got out quickly.
Chase and my getaway was quickly approaching. He wanted to take me out for a date before he hunkered down and focused on work so we could slip away. It didn’t go to plan. He was preparing to go help an ally. I supposed that’s the hard part about being an Alpha. My job could be that way too.
My phone alert went off. SHIT! I read the readout. BAGGE. My heart dropped. I'd just coded that one. It stood for Bad Ass Girl Gang Emmaline. The dot showed she was in California. How the HELL did she get there? Well, fairies popping I guess. Damn. Heath might kill me for leaving my phone out and letting Chase see where I was going, but that’s what I was doing. Plus, he probably wouldn’t find out.
I flashed to the restroom giving Chase a few minutes, and splashed water on my face. Then I left the bathroom, kissed Chase, and grabbed my phone. I didn’t know what I was walking into. I turned for one last look at him before I left. He looked a little lost, but his eyes were full of love.
I took off outside and ran to my house changing my outfit for my BA gear. I got to the Shroud as fast as I could. The second I arrived I saw Heath talking to Exsis, Isaiah, and Noah’s dad. I flashed over to them. I ordered, “Exsis, pop me to these coordinates.” Heath frowned, “What’s that? Who’s in trouble?” I answered, “Emmaline.”
Heath questioned, “Haley’s cousin?” Exsis developed a sense of urgency, “The Water Duchess? She is in danger? I will assist you.” Heath disagreed, “No, we need you to get right back here.” Heath hugged me, “Be safe.” I said, “Of course.”
Exsis popped us to California. We weren’t in Fresno though. The sign clearly read Bakersfield. I said, “Uhhh this is not where I wanted to go.” Exsis frowned, “It seems this is as close as I can get you for some reason. I am not a royal there are protections against Fairy’s in this place. Haley could get you closer.”
I groaned, “Perfect. People including you guys in wards is beginning to piss me off. Thanks for getting me this close. I can run from here.” Exsis grabbed my arm, “Wait.” He handed me his card, “Call me if you need something. The Duchess is ours to protect as well. I will come help you if I can.” I was surprised, “Thank you, Exsis.” I took off running towards Fresno.
