I held up my finger to Matt and closed the door. I stroked my fingers on Chase’s back, “Chase, I thought you would be happier.” Chase frowned, “About what?” I whispered, “You’re going to mark me.” Chase grinned, “I am very happy about that, Sweetheart.” I teased, “Tell your tone that. Then try not to bite everyone’s head off today.” Chase laughed, “For you, I will try.”
I opened the door, and found Ted was beside Matt. Matt nodded to me, “Bless you, Lexi.” Chase kissed me again. When he pulled back, he told me, “I’ll see you later.” I nodded, “You will. I hear there’s going to be a new pack house to move to. You’re lucky my best friend conjures or I’d get exhausted with all the moving; your place, my place, the new your place, and my fake place.” He was smiling as he left.
Kincade and Kevin came into the apartment with Ted, Mark, and Joanie. Kevin shot me a look, “Remember that whole give us a head’s up thing.” I frowned, “I didn’t ditch you. You requested a head’s up when I was ditching you. I didn’t do that.”
Kevin sighed, “Sometimes you are the easiest person to guard, and sometimes you are most difficult.” I teased, “I’ve got to keep you on your toes. We can’t have you getting bored.” Joanie laughed. Kincade grumbled, “I could get used to boring.”
I smirked, “Kincade, I don’t see your life becoming boring anytime soon.” Joanie laughed again this time right alongside Ted. I sent Haley a text to pop on over. Kincade asked, “Why? Are you planning to be difficult?” I smiled, “Me? No, I just don’t think your life will be boring anytime soon.”
While I was talking a pop sounded. Blade, Haley, and Molly had arrived. Haley said, “I agree. Your life will be FAR from boring. Lexi, did you know there are these things called New Year’s resolutions?” I laughed, “Yes, I did.”
Haley grinned broadly, “Well, the fucking Troll better watch out because my number one is watching him die slowly and painfully.” I laughed. Kincade asked, “Can someone tell me why my life won’t be boring?”
I bit my lip. “Actually, I need you to go to the office, and bring Carry back here. She should be there soon.” Kincade lit up and practically ran from the room. Kevin sighed. “He likes that girl too much.” Ted, Joanie, Molly, me, and Haley cracked up. Even Blade smirked. I told him, “You have no idea.” Kevin frowned. Haley said, “Alright. Let’s get the fairy hijinks started.”
Truth Comes Out
Chase was on edge in Lexi’s new apartment. I smelled Kevin and Kincade coming down the hall. Secretly, I was thrilled. Finally, here was a target for my anger. Both Kincade and Kevin were surprised to see me standing there. I gave them direct orders to guard Lexi, and they weren’t even with her.
Matt linked me, “This isn’t their fault.” I growled, “I didn’t ask them to sit around with their thumb up their ass! I ORDERED them to guard her. She’s their future Luna! They had no fucking clue she’d signed a lease and left the original building to come to an apartment.”
Lexi defending them only stoked my anger. Kincade linked me, “We thought she had a meeting about an event. She got out of the car before we could ask why we were here.” I growled, “How did she get up here without you knowing?” Kincade answered, “They went out the backdoor of the office. I should’ve had Kevin on it, it won’t happen again.” I growled, “No, it won’t.”
Matt said, “I did have the length of her lease detail, but in your rage infused state I hadn’t given it to you yet. At least it’s not a year lease.” I growled, “I planned to have her in the main house at our new pack house in March.”
Matt reminded me, “You do own this building. You could let her out of her lease should she want to move in.” I replied, “And if she doesn’t?” Matt sighed, “I inserted my own foot in my mouth with that one. I take full responsibility for that. I walked right into it.” I couldn’t argue with him there. He did. It wasn’t anything I wasn’t thinking though.
I linked Derrick, “Did Sally get an apartment too?” Derrick growled, “She better not have.” I linked Ted, “Did you or Sally get an apartment too?” Ted looked startled, “It’s still weird you can do that. No, we didn’t.”
Bolt sighed in a relief, “A plan. That’s not leaving us.” Part of me relaxed, but part of me was worried the plan was to leave me behind. Bolt took over asking what plan. Matt linked me, “Bolt, Ted said this has nothing to do with her leaving you. Let Chase take back over.” Bolt let me take back over settling after getting that detail.
I linked Matt, “SERIOUSLY? The Hood’s version of talking fast is inviting everyone to sit down?!” Matt replied, “I’m sitting down and deeply wish she had whiskey here. I’d have one of those too. We need a fairy. This entire situation settles it. If there was a fairy here, I could have a whiskey on the rocks snapped to me.”
I finally got her talking. I linked Matt, “A VAMPIRE? GET A FUCKING MEETING WITH THE GODDAMN VAMPIRE KING FOR TONIGHT!” Matt sighed, “Ironically, I have an email from his day person about that exact thing. He must have known you’d want to meet.” I growled, “Fucking vampires.”
Lexi continued her explanation. I linked Derrick and Matt, “The Vampires have a reason to help Susanna. Susanna is not in danger from this plan.” Derrick said, “I… well… Sally said Susanna does consider them family. The vampires wouldn’t let anything upset her.” Lexi’s ass was in a sling in this plan. If anything went wrong, she’d pay the price, and so would I.
I linked Matt, “Who are the other tenants of this building?” Matt replied, “Already getting that information.” He shared his results out loud. The Vampire King has demon friends. They probably owed him favors. Lexi went through the plan. That it involved Haley made me feel better. She would never let anything happen to Lexi.
Derrick linked, “It’s smart. They couldn’t have all the bells and whistles they have at her house. It is in a field that’s hidden. This is in the open.” I ordered, “Do NOT compliment this psychotic putting my mate in the line of fire stupid ass plan.” Derrick frowned but said nothing.
My real fear came out. Maybe THIS is why I had to mark her. Because if I didn’t, Noah would have her because of this stupid ass apartment. I linked Matt, “Do we have an available unit open in this building?” Matt answered, “It’s the show unit.” I snarled, “Not anymore.”
Matt sighed, “Who’s moving in?” I answered, “No one. It will be for guards, and anyone else I want to be in it.” Matt said, “Ok then.” Anger filled me at the thought of Lexi walking around this place and someone watching her made me see red. Matt linked, “He would stake out the place. You know that.” I growled, “He’d love to see her naked, and you know it.” Matt winced.
When I ordered everyone out, they flew from the room as if they had wings, except Ted. He looked resolute. I linked Matt, “You seem to have missed that your mate didn’t leave with you.” Matt came back, but Ted didn’t move until Lexi told him to.
Matt said, “He doesn’t mean any disrespect.” I replied, “He’s worried about his friend. It’s fine.” Matt snorted, “Because his friend is your mate.” I snarled, “Do you REALLY want to quibble over the reason?” Matt shook his head, “Nope, see ya later.”
I turned my attention to Lexi. I could understand her though process. She thought that if she didn’t get ahead of the dead mother fucker, he’d trap her in some life she didn’t want. I would never let that happen. She was mine. There were no words that adequately describe what I would do to him if he put his hands on her.
Marked or not my allies would stand by me because Alpha Eric would. No one would argue with him. Or maybe someone would, and I could kill them. Killing someone sounded like a good idea just about now. Quite possibly a vampire or five. Bolt growled, “You are lowballing us. I want at least ten. Double digits.” I was liking how he thought today.
I should’ve been there to say this was dangerous and come up with my own protection plan. Now I was behind. This plan put their protection detail into a more dangerous category. Not that they’d mind. They both loved danger, all wolves do, but they should at least know the situation changed. Walking in blind never really helped anyone.
She startled me by asking if I was losing my mind. Did she consider this conversation losing my mind? I was being rather calm about this. I didn’t even put Kincade or Kevin through a wall for not being with her. She just walked away, and they’d had no clue. I’d strongly considered putting them through some sort of structure, but I didn’t do it. I wasn’t losing it. I was angrier than normal, but I wasn’t losing it.
Bolt huffed, “I want to mark mate, but I don’t want her to want our mark because people said we were losing it.” I agreed. The pack wanted their Luna, and they didn’t want to deal with an angry Alpha. I was only going to be calm in Lexi’s presence. Little things would set me off. Honestly, I didn’t know how much longer I could hold out.
