I asked gently, “Sally, do you want us to give you some time?” She nodded. She hugged both Ted and me. Sally shook herself, “Wait, I’ll just take them to my place. Let’s run together.” We passed pack members who were still cleaning up rogues.
Ted laughed, “DAMN BA!” Sally winked, “She was pissed.” Ted scoffed, “Pissed? She was a one woman wrecking crew! I am so proud.” All of Sally’s family snorted. She pulled them all across the barrier to her home and we heard their gasps of surprise. Tim said, “This is some shit. How do I become friends with the Fairy Princess? Does she have an application system? I’m willing to wait. I’ve got time.” Ted and I laughed.
Exhaustion hit me. I waved goodbye to Ted and ran back to my place. I fell asleep before I hit the bed. When I woke up, I saw Chase beside me. He guilty admitted about his BA dreams. That’s what’s wrong and keeping me from morning sex? I mean it’s still me. He just doesn’t know that. Poor guy was probably going crazy.
Susie and I were going to have our work cut out for us with Project Get a Clue. I had to explain I would only hold him accountable for mean things he does in MY dreams. His dreams are his own problem. Although it was still hilarious to me. We spent the rest of the weekend together, without distraction.
I was in a blissed out state when I walked into the office on Monday morning. I’d already told Chase I’d be late since I had a meeting with the Vampire King. I sat down at my desk and started working. My eyes slid to the corner of my desk, and I froze. The Fairy Queen’s letter. I could finally open it. I stood and stared at it for several seconds. It’s strange. I thought I’d tear it open, but now that the possibility was there I was terrified to open it.
I reached for it, and it flew away. I started to chase it. Ted came into my office. “Why are you chasing that enchanted fairy letter around your office?” I grumbled, “I can open it now.” Ted disagreed, “No you can’t. It’s not December.” I pouted, “I thought Haley said I could open it after Thanksgiving.”
Ted shook his head, “Your wires got crossed. Our Vampire meeting was the one after Thanksgiving. Don’t you worry, I have a calendar reminder for Wednesday when you can in fact, open the letter.” Of course, he did. I sighed, “Let’s just get through the day.” Everything flew by.
Before I knew it, Haley had popped in. She hugged me as Robert and King Arthur entered the office. She hugged King Arthur. Ted mouthed, “Brave Fairy.” Blade stepped forward and Ted jumped. Blade warned, “Is close. Stay.” He was looking at Robert.”
Haley said, “Blade, Robert had the chance to kill me and taste my blood several times. He never did. I’ve never thanked you for helping me during my imprisonment, but I really appreciate it, Robert.” Robert nodded.
Blade repeated, “Stay.” Robert nodded to him, “I won’t get any closer. You needn't worry. I have my Susanna.” Blade said, “Is job. Worry. Princess is Fairy. You Vampire. You step to Princess... You die.” Robert rolled his eyes, “Fine.”
King Arthur said, “First things first, you need to get an apartment Lass.” He laid out several listings for the area on my desk. I stared up at him in shock asking, “Huh? I have a house.” Then I have a house to move into with my string. He got a glint in his eyes, and I knew that whatever plan they’d come up with was sneaky and exactly what we needed.
Pack Announcement
Chase reluctantly left Lexi’s side when it was time to get back to work. I shifted and ran back to the main house. Cameron was there waiting when I got inside. He smiled, “You know it will be so much easier for you once Lexi moves in here.” I replied, “We aren’t there yet.” Cameron scoffed, “I love you Chase, but you’re an idiot. You basically live together now anyway. So, why haven’t you marked her?”
Before I could answer my dad walked into the office since I’d left the door open like the idiot I am. My dad smiled complimenting Cameron, “An excellent question, son.” I started, “Sophia…” My dad cut me off, “Is not your mate. You basically live with your mate, and you love each other. Every day that passes that you don’t mark Lexi you risk her slipping through your fingers. Goddess knows if you’d get a second chance mate the way you’re behaving with your first. You’ve probably offended the Moon Goddess twenty different ways to Sunday.”
I growled, “LEXI IS MINE!” Cameron said, “I mean technically she is, but not officially.” I shouted, “What is with you two today?!” Derrick cleared his throat, “What does Bolt say?” Bolt took over, “I’ve been saying we should mark her since we first smelled her. My wonderful human held me back though, and then I didn’t get to meet her until later.”
I took back over, “He’s an animal, guys. I don’t understand what your deal is today. Did you have a meeting and decide to gang up on me?” My dad snorted, “Today? Are you having memory problems? I have been resolute in my opinion that you should mark Lexi since I found out she was your fated mate.” I grumbled, “Cameron jumping on your train is what’s new about it.”
Cameron said, “Seriously, Chase? You ADMITTED in front of MY mate that you were dreaming about another woman. My mate LOVES Lexi.” My dad asked, “Dreams? You are what now?” I groaned, “Someone explain it to dad. By the way I told Lexi about the dreams, and she LAUGHED!”
Matt gasped, “She did? Are you serious?” I nodded. Derrick explained, “Long story short, Chase is intrigued by the Black Arrow. He dreams about her.” My dad hung his head, “Oh good.” Matt said, “Our theory is she’s his second chance mate.”
My dad closed his eyes, “Do you think that’s why she’s been around to help save us? You think she feels the pull to Chase? Oh my god! That’s why she was scared when I first met her. She saw a black wolf, and she thought I was Chase.” We all let that sit.
Matt’s eyes widened and he bewilderedly said, “No….” I asked, “What?” Matt frowned, “Nothing. I just had a thought.” Derrick asked, “What thought?” Matt theorized, “What if Lexi is the Black Arrow? We know she has a moniker.”
I shook my head, “No way.” My dad agreed, “I’ve met the Black Arrow, and she doesn’t look like Lexi.” Matt pointed out, “Susie seemed to think differently.” I argued, “Susie is five.” Matt shrugged, “It’s just an option. It would explain everything just as much as BA being your second chance mate does.”
Derrick agreed, “He’s right. It does explain just as much.” I growled, “You think my mate is one of the most RENOWNED members of the Hood? That would mean that the Hood and the Black Arrow are related. You all do realize that, right?” Matt asked, “Why would that be surprising? The best fighters in this pack were you and Cameron until he left to lead his own pack. You’re related. Why wouldn’t it make sense that the Hood’s best people are brother and sister?”
I said, “No.” Cameron argued, “It does make sense.” I growled, “NO! Because then her brother would NEVER let her be done. She’s too valuable. The Black Arrow is too good to let go off completely.” My dad reminded me, “Her brother loves her. Are we saying Heath Scott is the Hood?” I winced, “I forgot you didn’t know that.” My dad huffed, “That asshole. He punched me in the face then acted as though we’d never met.”
My dad thought about it for a moment then grinned broadly. He said, “I do know how we could tell if Lexi the Black Arrow.” I questioned, “How would we do that?” My dad smiled, “Get both of them to meet Cassandra Conners. Lexi herself told me she’d punch her in the face. We know the Black Arrow and Lexi are friends with the Fairy Princess. Matt over there can keep an ear to the ground. Hell, he could just call Beta Dylan. If we hear the Black Arrow meets Cassandra Conners and promptly punches her in the face then I’d say odds are high she’s actually Lexi.”
I stared at him, “Seriously? That’s your plan. You want us to wait to confirm something this big?” My dad smirked, “You could always mark her, then ask her yourself. She’s not allowed to tell you right now. You can’t even go to the Shroud.” I sighed, “I was hoping Lexi’s moniker was the Avenging Angel.”
Cameron commented, “That’s not a bad guess either. Not the top dog, but still very good at what she does.” Matt agreed, “AA would be a good guess. Haley might not want people to put two and two together knowing she hangs out with Lexi and BA someone could put that together.” I guess Matt just got to call them all by their nickname because of Ted.
Derrick pointed out, “Only someone who knows Lexi is Hood. We only do because of Ted, but no one else knows that for sure.” I stared at my Beta, “Matt you’re marked can Ted tell you?” Matt snorted, “You don’t think I haven’t tried that? Heck, I asked what Tate’s moniker was and he couldn’t tell me. There’s no way in HELL he can tell me Lexi’s.”
My dad smugly said, “My two options look like they are winning. Or there’s the third option of you meeting the Black Arrow. She’s running around our territory all the damn time. The females in our family have her damn calling card.”
Just then Nadine walked in. She explained, “There’s an urgent delivery for Chase.” I looked at it and commented, “There’s no return address.” Nadine shrugged, “It was on the porch.” She walked away. I opened it. Inside was a note:
Alpha Chase,
