Reagan laughed, “They hang out with fairies, Nadine.” Nadine managed, “That would absolutely work.” I smirked, “I’ll keep that in mind.” Nadine muttered, “As long as you’re prepared for it to work in ways you cannot even manage. Alpha’s are possessive, and someone flirting with you. Well, he would absolutely mark you if you asked. He might do it if you don’t ask if someone else was flirting first. After he killed them.”
Susie laughed, “We need a name for this! Let’s call it Project Mischief.” I agreed, “Why not?” Sally squealed, “YES! Another project. What’s our goal?” I glanced back towards the living room. No one was paying attention to us. I whispered, “Chase is taking me on a getaway. I was aiming for then.”
All the girls nodded. Nadine smiled, “We can plant the seeds too. Frank will be THRILLED. He’ll help us and keep it quiet.” Reagan agreed, “Yes, we can manage that. Lexi, you, and I will go out for a girl’s night again. I’ll tell Cameron about all the guys that flirted with you, and he will tell Chase. Oh, it’s already too good.”
I pointed out, “They’d have to actually flirt with me though. Kincade and Kevin would be around.” Reagan smiled, “We will go to Alpha Eric’s territory. Chase’s guys can’t do anything about it there other than report back.” Nadine said, “The whole lot of you girls have been hanging out with fairies. I need to get myself a fairy friend. I would’ve never even thought to try any of this.” Easily done.
Nadine turned to her daughter, “Susie, you’ve aptly named this Project Mischief. Reagan, you know this going to drive Chase crazy.” Reagan shrugged, “I love him like a brother, but he needs a push. I am more than happy to be that push with the help of our cohorts in Project Mischief.” Sally laughed, “Alpha Chase won’t know what hit him.” We all toasted clinking glasses.
After that we set down our drinks, and we all filed into the living room. Sally’s interactions with Derrick’s family brought a smile to my face. I was so happy for her. Her relationship with Noah’s parents was strained at best. His mom had always thought I was his string, and she was NOT good with change. She should’ve blamed him, but she was just ambivalent towards Sally. Edgar, well he was just Edgar.
I shared a look with Ted, and I knew he felt the same way. I sighed again wishing Sally had never been Noah’s string. Any other family would’ve welcomed Sally with open arms. She was everything anyone in the Hood wanted for a daughter in law. She got such a bad hand with her first string. Thankfully, that had been corrected. Now she was so loved here.
I went to help her with the pie. I was stunned Ted didn’t immediately jump up with us. He was just sitting there, but we got them moving. Ted whispered, “Why do I have to help pass out pie? OHHH are we going to use our speed to quickly get everyone their pie?” I said, “Well, we can do that too.”
Sally went over to her purse she’d left on the counter and pulled out a binky. She waved it in front of Ted. Ted’s eyes went wide, and he squealed. Both Sally and I slapped his arm. I peeked out and Matt was already standing. Ted sighed. He whispered, “I’ll take care of it.” We both nodded.
Matt sat down, but he didn’t look happy about it. Sally started putting pie on plates. Ted and I zipped around the room passing out pie. Sally carefully stuck the binky into Derrick’s slice and carried out hers and Derrick’s plates. Ted and I snagged our own plates and sat down beside our significant others.
Everyone started tearing into their pie. Ted and I were anxiously watching Derrick. Derrick took the smallest bite known to man. He missed the binky but exposed it to anyone who looked at his plate. I glanced at Chase and saw his shock when he noticed. I couldn’t help but think of telling him about our child one day.
I briefly considered how funny it would be if Derrick tried to put a bite into his mouth and ended up sucking on a binky. He noticed though. He looked almost scared to hope as if it was some prank, but he quickly lit up when Sally confirmed she was pregnant. I immediately left my seat. Ted was right behind me. We hugged Sally.
Ted asked, “Have you told your parents yet? They will be thrilled!” Sally smiled, “I’ll tell them. We haven’t…. I haven’t spoken to them since I rejected Noah. I didn’t want them to be disappointed in me. They don’t know about Derrick yet.” I immediately said, “Sally, no. They will be so proud of you for your strength. Now, they will just be thrilled.”
Sally bit her lip, “I don’t want Noah’s parents to find out. He’ll be vicious about this.” I assured her, “Your parents can keep a secret, but you do what you need to. You feeling safe with your little one is what’s important. Your parents will understand when you do decide to tell them.” Sally shrugged, “We will see. I know my mom would be jumping for joy. I just need to protect my baby.” I nodded, “Of course you do.”
When Sally said they were the trial couple for a baby with a werewolf. A twinge of sadness hit me. I thought that it would be Chase and me. I’d said a few years, but as I looked over at Sally and Derrick who were wrapped around each other I was reconsidering that stance.
I looked at Ted who smirked at me with a knowing grin. I wanted our kids to be close in age. Holy shit. I wanted a kid now. Where the HELL did that come from? I looked around the room quickly masking my expression when I saw both Matt and Nadine staring at me.
Chase glanced back at me a moment later. He quickly turned and I shot Matt a glare. I wished I could link him so I could tell him not to be a tattletale. Ted grabbed Matt’s hand and squeezed it while I shot daggers at Matt with my eyes.
I saw the light in both Frank and Nadine’s eyes when Susie mentioned a sibling. Something told me they might just try. Heaven help us all if it’s another little girl. She’s already got super protective men in her life.
Sally and Derrick were the first to leave. Not even bothering to hide what they were leaving to go do. They’d been all over each other from the moment she’d announced her pregnancy. Cameron and Reagan left next. I excused myself to go to the restroom.
I splashed some water on my face and stepped out. Ted was leaning against the wall. He teased, “I saw that look, Lexi Scott.” I hissed, “Not here. Their hearing is too good.” Ted agreed, “Alright. Your place tomorrow morning. Bright and early.” I rolled my eyes, “Fine.”
I was staying here tonight since Ted wanted to meet at my place. I wasn’t about to have that conversation where Chase could hear it. Ted was going to squeal and say I told you so at the top of his lungs. Once we got upstairs, I went to lay on the bed, but Chase quickly pulled me back to his side.
If people weren’t going to stop talking about their life spans being shortened, I was going to point out if Ted hadn’t been here they would’ve just thought I was late. He’d have worried, but he wouldn’t have panicked.
I wanted to gauge his reaction about Sally and Derrick before venturing into if he wanted kids sooner. I wanted to laugh because he thought Ted would get used to werewolf hearing. It wouldn’t matter even when Matt and Ted were old and grey. Ted would still be Ted squealing about gossip.
I talked to Chase about kids and he was on board. What I didn’t say was, I’m thinking about a little boy who looks just like you. Or a little girl with my hair and his eyes. On the one hand, we were young, and we had plenty of time. Time I thought I wanted, but now I didn’t. God, I might have to actually ask someone what his situation is and help solve it. I shook myself. No, I still didn’t want to know.
Thankfully, Haley was determined to get it done because of course she was. She probably googled double dates and wanted to go on them with us. We talked about Haley and her reasons before we made love well into the morning. I couldn’t bring myself to regret that I’d be getting up to meet Ted soon.
My eyes snapped open a few hours later. I quickly dressed in Chase’s hoodie and his sweatpants. I wrote him a note so he wouldn't worry. God only knows how long Ted was going to want to talk. I quietly closed the door. I saw Chase’s arm reach out and grab my pillow. I smiled at the gesture. He was so cute.
I ran down the stairs and out of the house, then flashed over to my place. Ted wasn’t there yet. Since I had time, I walked over to my safe. I grabbed my arrow calling card necklaces. I quickly coded them and turned on their GPS tracking. One for Susie, Reagan, and Nadine. None of the guys seemed like necklace wearers. I’d have to come up with something for them.
Ted snorted from behind me. He said, “I was wondering when you were going to pass those out.” I smiled and hit the secret button on my panels. I grabbed my Black Arrow gear, and quickly put it on. I said, “I thought I’d pass them out today.” Ted raised an eyebrow, “With Chase wondering where you are? Could you possibly want him to figure out your moniker?”
I admitted, “I would. I don’t like hiding it from him. I can’t tell him because we aren’t official. Heath and Chase have some weird thing going on right now. I know Heath would laugh at me and say no if I asked for permission to tell Chase.”
Ted asked, “What is their deal?” I shrugged, “I don’t know, maybe you could keep an ear out. Hey, I keep meaning to ask you. What you know about Alpha Sophia?” I wondered if she’d met up with Tyson. Ted stiffened, “Don’t talk to me about that bitch!” My eyes widened, “You still don’t like her?” Ted hissed, “She is on my shit list.” I nodded, “Alrighty then.” Weird but alright.
