Kevin linked, “Thank god our future Luna clarified we could all walk around the area. Just people who mean her harm would get caught in Alpha Eric’s Luna’s booby traps. What does a Fairy consider a booby trap?”

I laughed even harder. I replied, “Since being nice is growing beards and throwing people into the walls, I can only imagine what she does when she’s intending to be mean.” Kevin admitted, “I kind of hope I get to see someone set it off.”

Lexi managed to get Haley off the phone. Something told me she was going to be ranting at Alpha Eric until he managed to get her mind off this. I was certain the Hackura wouldn’t wage war, but King Aiden might for fun.

Matt linked me, “Her Hackura brother is mated to a witch. He was VERY possessive of her when we met them at that whole Alpha Hammond’s pack fiasco.” That was true, but Lexi didn’t think it was a problem. From what I’ve observed they were friends.

I linked Matt, “This subject change confuses me. Why wouldn’t Ted be ok?” Matt answered, “Ted had never shot at a person before. Just targets.” I nodded, understanding. It was different. Practice versus the actual thing. Ted seemed perfectly fine though.

Derrick linked me, “The witch is secure. I put the special cuffs on her for witches, that don’t allow them to use their magic.” Good. She would talk to me before she died. She was GOING to die for trying to take my Luna from me whether she was aware or not was not my problem.

I growled in my link with Matt, “Good god! How was the whole her being shot at fiasco yesterday?” Matt rubbed his face, “I don’t know. I’ve aged ten years since last night. That might have something to do with it.”

We left when it got close to the time that Haley was due to pop in. We didn’t go too far away so we could watch Ted and Lexi, but we were far enough away that Haley couldn’t see or hear us. Matt asked, “What if she brings Alpha Eric with her?” I sighed, “Then we will have to leave.” Matt snorted, “You’d have to leave. I could stay.” I wanted to glare at him but didn’t.

Haley popped in alone, thank the goddess. She put her hands out and a purple glow started to come out of her hands. I asked, “What is a purple glow? I’ve never seen a fairy hands glow purple.” Matt reminded me, “I know just as much about fairies as you do. I don’t know, but I wouldn’t want to be the witch that tried to get past her protections as pissed off as she is. We’d come home to fried witches.” I laughed, “That’s probably true.”

Haley started popping around the area. She spoke in Fealish. Kincade asked, “Is it just me, or is she talking to the grass and trees?” I admitted, “I think she is in fact talking to the grass and the trees. I’ll never know for sure because I don’t know Fealish. We’d have to track down a fairy.” Matt complained, “Those fuckers are so hard to catch too.”

We all laughed. Haley started lamenting about all the problems she was dealing with. I sighed, “There are a lot of problems going on at the same damn time.” Matt added, “Haley does seem to get herself involved in a lot of it.” I shrugged, “I don’t think that’s really a choice for her right now though. Based on what King Aiden said, she’s basically a powder keg; this can’t help that.” Matt nodded.

We laughed listening to their conversation. Matt asked, “Will we give the witch to her?” I shrugged, “Why not? She’ll do her thing and get us answers faster. I’ll tell him he can’t kill said witch, but he can have her until Haley is done questioning her.” Matt asked, “If he asks why he can’t kill the witch?”

I reasoned, “You want revenge for your upset mate who’s never shot anyone before. In his distress for his friend, he was forced to fire, and this upset you. Which in turn upsets me.” Matt agreed, “That could work. He’ll know it’s bullshit though.” I said, “But he won’t say it is bullshit.” Matt conceded, “No, it doesn’t seem likely that he will say anything.”

The second Haley popped out I shifted and ran back to Lexi. It had been torture staying away from her. Matt linked me, “Have one ounce of chill there, buddy.” I ignored him. Lexi stepped outside the barrier. Matt linked, “She’s just so nice and she’s including me.” He was right.

I was excited to get answers out of one prisoner no matter the means. Matt linked me, “Foot, mouth, you, inserted.” I cringed because he was right. I narrowly avoided catastrophe. Matt linked, “And you said you didn’t know any fairies. They would be so proud of that evasive answer.” I rolled my eyes.

I linked Matt, “I want to be that guy that would just give Wallace to Haley.” Matt responded, “I can be that guy.” I sighed, “For some reason I still want Sophia to be happy. For now, I want to respect how she wants to handle this.” Matt shook his head, “Sure, that won’t bite you in the ass eventually. Nope, this will be fine.” I knew he was probably right.

It was late, and I wanted Lexi to myself again. Before I had to spend the day away from her. I was so tired of people trying to take what was mine. Matt wanted the same with Ted, and they left. We talked for a minute before I told her how much I loved her while I made love to her. She fell asleep almost as soon as we were done. I got up and washed myself off, then her. I was about to join her when my phone rang. It was Heath. Great.

I answered, “Hello.” He gritted out, “I assume my sister was not taken by Noah otherwise you would have contacted me. I also believe you would sound more frantic.” I retorted, “I would sound angry. It would have been on my to do list to contact you, yes. I might have let Ted tell you though, but that was not necessary. Lexi was not taken.”

Heath snorted, “I have an email from Noah saying he got into her home and took her. It must have been automated.” I complained, “Can’t he just be that stupid all the time? I should have reports soon about how he got into my territory without being noticed.” Heath didn’t sound surprised, “He’s fast or he could have used a contact of his. I doubt you have a traitor among you.” I pointed out, “You still do.” Heath huffed, “Duly noted. We already knew that. Keep my sister safe.” He hung up.

I stared at my phone and mocked him, “Keep my sister safe. Oh, well I wasn’t already doing that. Prick. If Dylan meets him, he better get an epic nickname that makes me happy.” I put my phone down and slid into bed next to Lexi and fell asleep.

The next morning when Lexi got up to get ready, I checked my email on my phone. No patrol reported seeing a flash or anything unusual run by. So, either Heath was right, or someone did betray me. I just needed it to not be my dad.

I linked Kevin, “Drive over in one of the SUV’s. Lexi will be using it until her car is fixed.” Kevin replied, “Yes, Alpha. We will be there in five.” I wanted Lexi to have a car. I knew she could run, but she seemed to like driving.

Once Lexi was ready, I led her outside. She tried to cover it quickly, but I knew the gesture of lending her a car touched her. I waited until my men were with her before I turned away. I linked them both, “She’s never alone today.” The replied, “Yes, Alpha.”

I shifted and ran back to my house. Susie was about to leave for school. She gave me a kiss on the cheek when I knelt down beside her. She told me, “Daddy is in your office. Will you be upset with me if I forgive him? Lexi isn’t mad at me, and I miss him.” I assured her, “No, I won’t be mad at you. Trust your instincts, always. Have a good day in school.” She smiled, “Okay!” Nadine smiled at me.

I walked into my office where Derrick, Matt, Ted, and my dad were waiting. I needed Ted out of the office. I asked, “Ted, why don’t you go to the kitchen and grab a plate of breakfast for the prisoner to try and get him to talk to you?” Ted nodded, “I’m on it.” He left and shut the door.

My dad asked, “What’s this about? What happened yesterday? Are you ok?” I took a deep breath, “A member of the Hood got into our borders yesterday with the intent to abducting Lexi Scott.” My dad frowned, “Is she alright?” I nodded, “She’s fine. Are you denying that you have anything to do with this?”

Derrick’s eyes shot over to Matt. My dad was stunned. “You think I would do that to you?” I pointed out, “You went behind my back to try to keep her from me. Why not this?” My dad’s eye began to twitch. He stated, “I would never hurt her or you. I would not let anyone untrustworthy inside these borders. If you need proof of that, you just told her to have a good day at school. Someone who would kidnap anyone could turn their sights to Susie or Nadine. I would never risk either of them.”

I nodded, “Alright. You are dismissed.” My dad stood, “At least tell me if you believe me or not, son.” I looked at him. After several moments I said, “I believe you would never do anything to put Susie or Nadine at risk.” My dad sighed, “I wouldn’t do it to you either. I still think you’re making a mistake with this woman, but I wouldn’t hurt you in that way. I’d never set someone up to get kidnapped.” With that he left.

Ted came back in with what could only be considered a buffet with a tray. He’d even put juice and flowers on it. Wallace would think he was getting the royal treatment. Matt announced, “Alpha Eric is here.” I nodded, “Of course he is. Send him in.” Alpha Eric and Alpha Jackson walked in.

Alpha Jackson walked in smiling. He said to Matt, “I’m looking forward to the awkward family dinner we are having tonight.” Matt snorted while Ted paled. I linked Matt, “If he comes, I can’t come. Lexi will be there too. It’s sticky enough I’m coming with Molly there. He’s a step too far.” Matt replied, “I’ll handle it. I’ll tell Saied to keep him home. I need you there.” That was good. I need Lexi in my eyesight. Even Bolt relaxed after tensing over thinking we couldn’t go.
