I explained, “I have men assigned to guard her, and they are my best warriors.” The Hood yelled, “They let your father upset her!” I defended my men, “He sent them away on a false errand. It won’t happen again. Did Lexi not explain it to you?”

The Hood sighed, “No, and she won’t. She’s still one of my people. It’s my job to watch out for her. Convince your wife to get an annulment and bring Lexi Scott to your side, or so help me god Alpha Chase; I’ll end you.”

I said, “I’m TRYING to convince Sophia to get an annulment. Her damn former Gamma fucked us ALL, but you knew that already. You tipped her off.” The Hood admitted, “Not with the intent to keep you two married. I had no idea she would react how she did. I’m here to simply warn you that if you do not make Lexi Scott insanely happy, you will hear from me again. I promise you that you will not like it when you do.” I believed that because we’d probably fight, and that would upset my mate. Bolt huffed.

The Hood continued, “You also won’t tell her about his meeting, or I’ll tell her you're married.” I growled, “I was going to tell her, but she doesn’t want to know!” The Hood appeared to smile, “I am aware. I know Lexi Scott quite well.” It was maddening to not tell him I knew he was her brother.

I said, “Fine if you know I’m her string, then know I’m looking into her family. At her request.” The Hood argued, “No, you won’t. I’m looking into it discreetly. Too many eyes is not what the situation needs right now. There are lots of pieces in motion. I need Lexi to be safe. Unfortunately, you seem to be my best option to do that, since the one I would choose is recently mated.” Excuse me?

I linked Matt, “Ask Ted if the Angel found his wing.” Matt answered, “I know that. He didn’t. Why?” I growled, “Because Heath has another option as who he’d like to keep Lexi safe as opposed to me, but knows I’m her string, But that person IS MATED! WHAT THE FUCK!” Matt groaned, “This day just can’t even kind of get back on track. I’m on figuring out this mystery. On the plus side, he’s mated.” Bolt huffed, “Agreed.”

Heath continued, “I could force her home, but she’d leave. She lets your guards stay with her; she likes them. Trusts them even. You arranged guards for Sally. As much as I hate to admit it with everything going on Lexi is safest with you when she’s not working for me.”

I questioned, “Why do you hate that? Why don’t you like me?” The Hood answered, “Other than you’re married?” I began to explain, “I only got married because...” The Hood interrupted me, “I know very well why you got married. Keep Lexi Scott safe from everyone, that includes your own family members, or we WILL meet under different circumstances. Be sure to let your father know if he upsets her again, I’ll do more than break his damn nose. Don’t forget, you tell her about this meeting, and I drop the her string is a married Alpha bomb.”

He took off running before I could reply. It was official, my mate’s brother REALLY didn’t like me. But why? Being married wasn’t a reason to hate me, especially since he knew why. I sighed. I shifted and went to meet up with Derrick.

Meeting Old Friends

Lexi threw herself into work to forget about Frank’s visit. I called out into the office, “Ted let’s work on the Halloween party for your pack.” Ted added, “It’s your pack too, if we want to be technical.” He came back in and we finished every classroom idea. It had taken about an hour and half.

I chewed on my pen lid before I acknowledged, “It looks great. I think they will have a lot of fun. I’ll send it to Nadine for final confirmation. You start getting the supplies together.” Ted nodded leaving the room. He was being very quiet. It made me feel like he was planning something.

I was surprised when Chase called. UGH! I did NOT want to listen to another Frank Daniels apology. To my shock, it was a sobbing Susie. She was practically hyperventilating about me being Chase’s Princess. I guess in a way, I am the Princess of the Hood. Not that we call it that, but I could see the logic there.

My heart broke that she thought I’d be upset with her. Ted waved his hand in front of his face then wiped a tear from his eye. I fixed it the only way I could. Ted could handle our event set up for the Vampire King while I had a play date. I could leave the Daniel’s house in time to make it there myself prior to the vampires rising.

Ted gave me a thumbs up approving my thought process. It was really nice to have a friend that just knew you that well. No words were needed. I was really upset because the kids thought that we wouldn’t do their Halloween Party because of a disagreement between Frank and me. Of course, we would. We’d promised. We weren’t fairies, but we did stick to our word.

I knew Susie didn’t understand that her brother owned my heart. The thing was he’d set up residence there and didn’t seem to have any intention of leaving. I understood we can’t control other people’s actions, which meant Chase can’t control his father. We can only control ourselves and our responses.

Her discussion about houses made me realize I was going to have to move in with them at some point. Hell, I was already referring to Frank as my future father-in-law. Living together is kind of a given.

I looked up when Ted started doing a dance in my doorway. I rolled my eyes at him. Ted motioned that I needed to get off the call, so I wrapped it up. Ted said, “King Arthur’s daytime assistant will be here to go over their event this weekend shortly.” I nodded.

Ted and I had finalized those details after my meeting with the King before his assistant showed up. She was a nice girl and very efficient at her job. She smiled as she was leaving, “Are you both going to be at the event?” I nodded, “Ted will be there to do setup, but I will be there before the event begins.”

She smirked, “Well, normally Ted you’d be a hot commodity, but with that mark on your neck; you’ll be avoided. No one wants a skirmish with the pissed off werewolves so soon after our last ordeal. Alpha Eric has century old vampires on edge. They still talk about how that was him weak, and with the Princess at his side he must be a beast.” Weak?

Before I could ask she continued, “You though.” She pointed at me, “Will have men all over you.” I snorted, “I’m taken.” She winked, “Not according to your neck.” She left. Ted snorted, “You’re going to get possessive claimed sex when you come back reeking of vampire.”

I rolled my eyes, “We both will smell like vampires. It’s an event FOR vampires.” Ted wiggled his eyebrows, “Mark my words. Someone is going to touch you, and Chase WILL lose it.” I sighed, “We are keeping things on the downlow, and I can handle myself.”

Ted put his hands in the air, “I know that. I would just like to be there for the start of Chase smelling you so I can say I told you so. I smelled like my BROTHER and Matt mounted me like a crazy possessed man.” I pointed out, “He didn’t know it was your brother.” Ted smirked, “Chase will know it’s not your brother.” I laughed, “Touché. I think it will be fine.”

Ted snorted, “No, it won’t. It WILL be fun for you though, and funny for me. You missed getting it that night at the club. Matt told me all about that night. Speaking of I invited Haley for drinks.” I panicked, “You can’t tell her Frank came here! She’ll figure it out about me and Chase knowing each other.”

Ted gave me a look, “The most perceptive person about OTHER people is Haley Conners. I think that’s the first time I’ve said her new last name. DANG IT! Everyone’s name is going to change. Surely I get a pass for using maiden names by accident.” I snorted, “You do.”

Ted waved his hands, “Haley probably already knows. She’s just waiting for you to tell her.” I wanted to live in denial because then I didn’t feel like such a bad friend. I pouted, “She doesn’t know for sure.” Ted said, “She’s respecting your decision to keep it private while trying to fix whatever is going…. oh...my... god…” I frowned, “What?”

Ted said, “Something Chase said when I was introduced as the Beta Male just sunk in for me.” I laughed, “A little slow on the uptake there, Ted.” Ted looked pissed. He looked away shouting, “I was preoccupied.” I called, “I know. I handled that for you though. Those guys are so very dead.” Ted nodded but said nothing. I shrugged.

Ted turned at our door telling me, “We are wrapping up at three. The triplets go down for a nap around then and Haley’s popping to us.” I agreed, “That’s doable.” He walked out of the office. Ok then. I confirmed everything for our event this weekend. Thankfully, we didn’t have Sally on this one since she was still gone. We just needed blood for the vampires to drink. I had a supernatural blood bank vendor for that. He confirmed that he’d have everything ready for us.

I had just hung up my last phone call when Haley popped in. She greeted me, “Hey! I hear you had a bit of morning. I don’t know what that fucking means, but apparently it means Happy Hour. I don’t think I’ll ever understand this realm.” She snapped me into a new outfit.

I looked down and laughed, “You just don’t do things halfway.” Haley had snapped me into high waisted black skinny jeans with ripped knees. It had a black leather jacket and a white bodice piece that was see through.
