Haley shrugged, “We were there for a couple hours. She told me what she wanted her house to look like. She wants it near you two, which was the plan anyway.” I explained, “We were going to go get Sally’s things today.” Haley shrugged, “I could conjure her stuff.”
Ted shook his head, “No need. I want to see my mom.” Haley nodded, “Alright. When you’re done just bring the stuff to either of your homes, and then we can conjure the stuff to her house. Tell the Troll, should you see him, I said to suck a dick. The teenagers in our pack say that’s quite the diss. I don’t know why because sucking dick is fun, but they laughed when I said that. It must be a this realm thing.”
I laughed, “He’ll be in lockdown, or the dungeons.” Haley rolled her eyes, “He should be dead. Then we could set his remains on fire. We could gather up his ashes, set those on fire, THEN as a final fuck you, we could toss what was left in a pile of shit.”
Ted asked, “Why shit?” Haley answered, “So he can be reunited with his people.” Ted laughed, “His people? Shit is people?” Haley shook her head, “HE is shit. There are people just like him though. They all belong in shit.”
I raised an eyebrow asking, “Bjourn didn’t agree?” Haley hissed, “He’s on a mission. It’s a dark mission. He will be back …” She trailed off looking at her phone, “Anytime within the next hour. I’ve told everyone he HAS to call me the second he gets back. I left notes everywhere for him. I WILL get an answer. It’s not even a long explanation. Astrid agreed that it wouldn’t take long. Then she can fuck his brains out. I need five minutes max.”
I laughed, “You really want to kill him.” Haley tilted her head, “I’ve wanted to kill the fucking Troll for three years. The many ways I have plotted his murder has reached an insane number of scenarios. He needs to die before I come up with more.” I snorted as Haley popped out.
Ted whistled, “Hell hath no fury like a Fairy Hackura Princess whose friend, she didn’t know was her friend, has been hurt. Seriously. I can’t believe she didn’t know you guys were friends. Or that I am her friend.”
I shrugged, “She was skittish, and no one ever wanted to be her friend in Faerie. It’s annoying but understandable on her part.” Ted scoffed, “Fairies have lost the reservation. She’s the best friend to have. Especially if shit hits the fan. I want her in my corner, right there with you.” I agreed, “That’s so very true.”
Ted stood, “Race you to the Shroud.” I laughed. We took off running. I’d felt a little bad we’d ditched our protection details, but they couldn’t come inside anyway. Aside from my parents being murdered nothing bad ever happened here. It’s not like we weren’t safe. We walked at a normal pace to Sally and Noah’s house. We knew he wouldn’t be there anyway.
Both of us stopped dead in our tracks gaping at the state of their home. The front door and been kicked off the hinges. All the windows were shattered. Practically everything was broken. I found my voice, “What the actual fuck?”
From behind us Heath spoke, “Noah didn’t take kindly to your drunk texts.” I whirled, “Kindly? This is ridiculous. The definition of overreaction is before my eyes.” Heath nodded, “That he was able to do it at all was telling. As I told you before.” I gulped. Noah didn’t know he was supposed to be in pain. You’d think that for a control freak, he’d have done his research.
I asked, “What are you going to do?” Heath looked away, “He’s on house arrest right now. He’ll be moved to the dungeons once I have proof this wasn’t about a gambling debt.” Ted asked, “Uhh what now?” I sighed, “Let’s get inside.” Ted snorted, “Ok, but I smell a juicy story, and you know I cannot resist those for long.” I did know that.
We all went inside, and I explained everything to Ted. He turned red in the face, “THAT ASS! I’m with Haley. Let’s set him on fire, then gather up his ashes and put him in shit.” Heath laughed, “Something tells me that would be the very end of her plan.”
I agreed, “Probably. She’s only had three years and change to plan the whole thing.” Heath snorted, “Come see me once you’re done packing her things, Lex. I need to go over some things with you.” I nodded. Heath left in a flash.
Ted frowned, “You’re going on a mission again.” I nodded, “Yes, on Halloween.” Ted sighed, “Matt was supposed to go with Alpha Chase to a wedding, but now he’s not. The Alpha man anticipates some other Alpha making a move. Derrick and Matt have to stay behind. I had a fabulous costume picked out for that wedding too.”
I nudged him, “You can always dress up in the pack house. I’m sure the pack has a Halloween thing for the kids.” Ted sighed sadly, “Nope.” I stopped, “Well, then we will plan one. You can host it. They should have something for the kids.” Ted smiled, “We are going to be the dream team Luna and Beta Male.” I agreed, “The first in history, and the pinnacle for everyone to reach.”
Ted changed the subject, “I don’t like that you’re getting another mission. I wish you’d take the rest of the year off.” I shrugged, “I think my only two will be Halloween and my standard Christmas Eve one. Well, there will probably be at least one in between.”
Ted snorted, “At least I know the Christmas Eve mission will be a simple B&E. Grab some information and get out.” I nodded, “It usually is.” I opened the closet and found some suitcases that were Sally’s. They were surprisingly heavy. I unzipped them and found it was neatly packed full of clothes.
Ted and I exchanged glances and grabbed her other suitcase, all of which had been packed. Ted opened their closet, only Noah’s things remained. He gestured to Sally’s empty side of the closet, “I know he’s not the most observant man, but how the HELL did he not notice her things were in suitcases?” I was really surprised too.
I admitted, “I have no idea. Honestly.” Ted said, “If anyone needed a flashing neon sign, declaring they’re a self-centered egotistical jackass it’s him.” He wasn’t wrong. We collected what was left of her stuff and took it outside.
I gave him a quick hug, “I’m going to go find Heath.” Ted nodded, “I’m going to get some face time with mommy dearest. Lest she call my string and say I didn’t come see her. Those two are practically BFF’s now. I love it.” I nudged him, “Don’t say mommy dearest like that, it’s creepy.” Ted laughed, “Later!”
I took off running for Heath’s office. I saw Isaiah when I got there. He smiled, “Go right on in.” I walked in and Heath had a mountain of paperwork. I raised an eyebrow and began to file the side of his desk that was completed work.
Before I’d become mission oriented, I’d filed things for Heath. Currently, his office was a complete mess. It took me fifteen minutes to get everything looking better. I clicked my tongue, “You need to hire someone to do these things.”
Heath smiled, “Probably, but I just know if I text you a picture your brain will force you to come back here and straighten things up for me.” I laughed, “That’s why you send me pictures of your office when I complete a mission?” Heath winked, “Guilty.”
I rolled my eyes, “I’m insanely annoyed that it works, and that it will continue to work. Even though I know what you are doing.” Heath threw his head back and laughed. He admitted, “Which is why I told you. I know how the minions in your brain work.” I stuck my tongue out at him.
Heath changed the subject, “You have two missions on Halloween. Both will be done as the Black Arrow.” I forced myself not to make a face. Chase was not going to like the fact that I couldn’t take Kincade and Kevin with me.
I pushed that aside asking, “What am I doing?” Chase handed me a file. I opened it and took a glance. I looked up, “This is the witch that has taken over for Emmeline Ryder. This says Emmeline was killed by vampires. Are you sure?”
Heath nodded, “Yes. She was killed and that woman, Meredith Yancy, took her place. She’s leading her coven around with Alpha Hammond, doing his bidding. She’s causing a problem for several surrounding covens. On Halloween she will be on the border with Red Run and Alpha Raven’s pack. Alpha Raven is helping Alpha Hammond and his band of witches.” That was a betrayal. Alpha Raymond Raven was their ally.
Heath added, “Ted cannot know that since we are not ready to release that information.” My heart was growing heavy. I wanted to tell Chase, but I couldn’t. I knew who his allies were, and Red Run was one of them.
I asked, “What’s my second mission?” Heath smiled, “You’re going to have to run REALLY fast. The pack that Alpha Sophia runs borders Ted’s.” My eyes narrowed at my brother’s tone. I interrupted, “Does my big brother have a girlfriend?”
