I yelled, “SHE’S MINE! I COULD’VE KILLED HIM AND YOU DIDN'T LET ME!” Matt tried to reason with me, “It was not the right time. I don’t think Heath will protect him after this. His actions led to one of his people almost being murdered IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! I mean the nerve of some people. That would’ve brought attention to the Hood, and they DO NOT like attention. Then let’s just add that his sister got stabbed. He didn’t sound happy about that fact. Also, it’s a good thing we didn’t go into Lexi’s office. Haley has popped back in.”
I pushed Matt off me and paced, “I have never been so scared. I just got her; I can’t even fucking mark her. I almost lost her because of this BULLSHIT with an ex!” Matt wisely said nothing as I paced. Eventually Matt said, “Maybe Haley will kill him for you.” I growled, “I don’t fucking care who at this point, but SOEMONE needs to kill him. I WANT him dead.” I heard Haley getting ready to leave.
I walked out of the office and held the doorknob to Lexi’s office. As soon as I heard a pop, I slammed the door open. Everything settled within me the second I had her in my arms. I didn’t care that I was an Alpha, I couldn’t stop my tears. I’d almost lost her. I couldn’t let her go, but she pulled back from our hug I kept a hand on her waist. Sally put together I was Lexi’s string. Our quiet, small little group kept growing.
I linked Matt, “If Haley finds out about me and Lexi already knowing each other we could all be in a world of pain.” Matt snorted, “Then you better hope the all-knowing Alpha Eric Conners doesn’t know.” I raised an eyebrow, “Did I not mention he linked me about smelling us? My tone might have given it away. Plus, if you think he didn’t have an idea before that or knows but hasn’t confirmed, you’re crazy. He knows but he doesn’t because he doesn’t want to tell Haley. He’s going with plausible deniability because he doesn’t want to know.”
Matt agreed, “That does sound like him, and no you didn’t tell me he linked you. I would’ve said don’t answer that because you were in a manic my mate has been hurt mode. I don’t know how he’s calling it plausible deniability. Other than it literally hasn’t been said out loud to him.”
I was furious Noah said my mate was his, but Lexi calmed me down. Matt linked, “I’m going to tap Sophia’s shoulder until she agrees to your annulment. Lexi is better than Prozac for you. I NEED her around the main house.”
My heart went out to Sally talking about knowing her string wasn’t her forever. Matt sighed, “I thought I was going to have to trick Ted into helping me find a way to slip the Hood information. I think he’ll deliver it himself after that little speech of Sally’s.” I asked, “Wouldn't you?” Matt considered then replied, “I’d have killed the fucker myself. That’s not my Ted’s style though.” I said, “Again. I would’ve killed him already if you hadn’t stopped me.”
Matt glared at me, “In public. ON THE STREET. With witnesses! These are not places we kill people.” I rolled my eyes at him. Matt said, “Nor is where you drag people off the streets to bring them home and kill. Which you would remember if you didn’t want to kill him so badly.”
I felt a pang in my heart hearing that Sally was going to reject Noah. It was a reflex now that I had Lexi, but Noah deserved it. Their Goddess should absolutely bless Sally with a second chance mate. Her first mate was the worst mate she could’ve gotten. I listened as they made plans for her getaway.
I looked at my phone and wanted to snarl. Hours. I was hours behind some damn bookie who was going to die. If I’d assigned Sally guards a few hours earlier, this would’ve NEVER happened. Lexi amended our plans. I was stunned she wasn’t just going with Sally.
Bolt snorted, “You shouldn't be, we just found each other, of course she wants to spend time with us. We’ve only had one night.” I wasn’t upset, just surprised. I linked Matt, “The SECOND I step out of Lexi’s I want to know where that bookie is. He’s going to spend time in our dungeons until I know EXACTLY what he and Noah were discussing.”
I linked Kincade and Kevin, “I’ve got her until we leave her house. I’ll link you when you need to guard her.” Both nodded and left. My need for her overtook me. I stripped her shirt off once we’d got to her office. I kicked the door shut with my foot. I kissed the patch of skin where she’d been stabbed. This precious piece of skin would never be harmed again.
I had to taste her. I dropped down on my knees knowing no one woman or man would ever get me on my knees except her. I needed to claim her. I was fighting Bolt every second of the way. I couldn’t stop myself when she said she was mine. She almost died, and I didn’t know because we weren’t marked. I went for her neck and managed to pull my hand up to bite it instead. Our marking should be more special than this. It should also not be until I could have her by my side. Bolt snarled at me.
She looked into my eyes and cradled my face with her hands, “Chase Daniels, you are one of a kind.” I pulled my teeth out of my arm. Lexi slid off me and went to grab a first aid kit. I laughed, “It’s already healed, Sweetheart.” She blushed and took my hand studying my arm. “That’s handy.” She took out an antiseptic wipe and cleaned off my arm. She kissed the spot saying, “There, all better.”
She put her forehead against mine, “I’m falling so hard and fast for you, Chase Daniels. It’s a little scary.” I declared my feelings, “I already love you, Lexi Scott. You are my world.” She gasped, “You love me?” I affirmed, “I do. You’ve invaded my every thought, you are the core of my soul. I love you Lexi.”
She put her forehead on mine and kissed me. “I’m not ready to say that yet.” I assured her, “You don’t need to be. I just needed you to know.” Lexi stared into my eyes, “I’m scared.” I vowed, “I’ll never intentionally hurt you, and I’ll never let anyone else hurt you. The only reason the dead motherfucker is alive is because Matt held me back.” Lexi stared at me for several moments. She whispered, “Let’s go. We can get everything ready to cook.”
I followed her out. We went to her car, and she took off. She made some evasive maneuvers. I questioned, “Do you think you’re being followed?” She winked, “I know we were.” I pressed, “Is it your brother?” Her phone lit up saying Heath. Lexi said, “It’s not him following us, no. He’d be dealing with his Lieutenant.”
Lexi answered her phone, “Heath.” Heath ordered, “STOP trying to lose our people.” Lexi laughed, “Trying? You’re behind, big brother. I did lose them.” Heath ground out, “If you get hurt, I’ll lock you in your room for the REST OF THE YEAR!” Lexi laughed, “I’m fine and I’ll talk to you later.” She hung up.
I growled, “I can’t let him take you.” Lexi patted my leg, “He won’t. He’s just upset and dealing with his friend. He won’t like having to do that.” I nodded. We got out of her car and walked into her house. We worked side by side in the kitchen. She decided on making chicken parmesan with green beans and fries. Her little giggles as she instructed me through how to properly steam the green beans were adorable. I intentionally messed up a few times just to make her laugh. It’s not like green beans were remotely hard to steam.
Once she put the chicken in to cook, I turned her around and sat her on the opposite counter. I kissed her lightly. “I don’t like you getting hurt.” Lexi tilted her head, “I don’t imagine that you do.” I nuzzled her neck stating, “Don’t do it again.” Lexi shrugged, “I can’t promise that.” I slid my hand up her thigh. I questioned, “Is that so?” Lexi bit her lip, “Yes.”
I’d already ripped her underwear off, and I could feel her juices flowing down her thighs. I kissed her hard and nipped her lip sliding a finger into her. She wrapped her arms around my neck and moaned into my mouth.
I pulled back my lips from hers and increased my pace. I ordered, “No getting hurt.” Lexi moaned, “Chase….” I bit right below her ear then whispered, “I said no getting hurt.” She screamed her orgasm. I removed my fingers. I carried her to a barstool and sat down with her on top. I growled, “Ride me, Sweetheart.”
Lexi’s eyes were burning with lust. I knew mine matched her own. She informed me, “The chicken will be ready in fifteen minutes.” I kissed her, “Then you’d better hurry.” She slammed down onto me. I threw my head back, “FUCK LEXI!” She laughed and bit my neck hard. Bolt was hoping she would mark us. Honestly I’d like her to. She didn’t though. She definitely left several hickey’s and we both climaxed as the timer on the oven went off.
Lexi got off me and pulled her skirt back down. She smiled at me over her shoulder, “The plates are in the cabinet on the right.” I nodded and grabbed my shorts off of the floor. I grabbed two plates, and she put both our portions out.
The second the chicken touched my tongue, I moaned proclaiming, “This is the best goddamn chicken I have ever tasted in my entire life.” Lexi laughed, “I spent some time in France. My neighbor was a chef, and she gave me some recipes. Sally’s is better though.”
I inhaled my food admitting, “I don’t know how that’s possible.” Lexi shrugged, “Sally’s cooking in magic. That’s really the only explanation.” I told her, “She seems very nice.” Lexi smiled, “She’s one of the nicest people I know.”
We ate the rest of our meal making small talk. We cleaned the dishes together both taking our time. It was obvious that neither of us wanted to leave the other. I kissed her. When I pulled back I let her know, “I’m still staying here tonight.” Lexi smiled, “I’m glad. Maybe when they pass out, I’ll sneak over here.” I laughed, “Are you going to drink them under the table?” Lexi snorted, “Ummm duh. I can hold my liquor better than both of them.” I laughed, “Of course you can.”
Matt linked me, “We have the location of the bookie you want to throttle.” I sighed, “You need to go to your friends, and I need to handle a few things.” I linked Kevin and Kincade, “I need you on Lexi.” Kevin replied, “We are already outside. Matt sent us over fifteen minutes ago.” Good. My Beta didn’t want me losing my shit anymore today it seemed.
I walked outside with Lexi. I kissed her hard at the barrier, “Take Kevin and Kincade with you to Ted’s.” Lexi laughed, “I suppose pointing out six warriors outside a fairy protected house is overkill is pointless?” I kissed her again, “At least you know it’s pointless to argue.” She laughed then said, “I have some things to get inside before I leave.” I kissed her again, “I still don’t know how to leave you.”
Lexi smiled, “I still want you to tell me when you figure it out.” Matt cleared his throat, “I had to leave Ted. Come on Chase, let’s go. I even stole a Lexi scented Hoodie for you from Ted’s house.” I kissed Lexi again then forced myself to leave.
