I growled, “She’s not getting back in that car. They can’t hide her from me. I NEED to see her.” She mentioned Ted. Cameron and I exchanged looks. I ripped open my connection with Matt ordering, “GET OUT OF TED’S PLACE! Lexi’s brother is trying to hide them because of the guy we already killed. For some reason, they don’t seem to know he’s dead already. Go to the pack house or go to a hotel in Alpha Eric’s territory. He has rooms ready and available for neighboring packs.”
Matt groaned, “FUCK WHO EVER THEY ARE! We are leaving. They won’t take him from me. I’ll rip them to pieces if they so much as TRY to take him from me. You’ve got Lexi, right? Ted is worried.” I assured him, “I’ve got her. Link me when you know where you’re going to end up.”
Matt replied, “We will be in Alpha Eric’s territory. I haven’t told my parents yet about being gay and having a male mate. Going to the pack house would let that cat out of the bag in… well, not the way I want to tell them.” I linked, “I’ll let Alpha Eric know.”
I linked the man in question, “My Beta will be at your hotel with a guest.” Alpha Eric replied, “That’s fine. Are you really calling him a guest though?” I incredulously asked, “How do you…? You know what? You just know things. I thought that was Beta Dylan’s thing but…”
Alpha Eric interrupted, “We both know things, just different things. He’s a sponge about information, I know people. Never repeat that, ever. He will be insanely obnoxious if he knows I admitted he knows things.” That was true on all accounts. He added, “My staff is aware and will lead Beta Matt right to his room without going through the lobby.” I replied, “Thank you, Alpha Eric.” He grunted, “Any time.”
My attention was called back to my mate when she ended her call and took off. I evaluated the man driving her. He did not give any indication he was going to stop her, which was good for his life expectancy. We followed her.
I linked Cameron, “They want to keep her hidden until Halloween. I can’t not lay eyes on her for that long. It’s already torture not being with her right now. To not see her, to lose her… I can’t.” Cameron assured me, “We will make sure someone is watching her. They won’t take her, big brother. We can keep her out here and visible.”
I linked Cameron, “This ex of hers needs to stick to the caterer and leave my mate alone or he’s dead.” Cameron sighed, “Yes, I know. We are very grim reaper about your mate.” Like he was any better about Reagan.
Lexi was picking up speed. I yelled at my wolf, “Don’t lose her, Bolt.” Bolt growled, “MY NAME IS BOLT! I’M FUCKING FAST! We won’t lose her.” We managed to keep up. We were right behind her when she disappeared into thin air.
I linked my brother, “What the fuck?” Cameron theorized, “I think she lives there. I think the Princess did something to hide her house.” I looked around before admitting, “I like it here.” It was in a tucked away part of my territory. The Moon Goddess clearly had a sense of humor given that my mate was concealed from me in my own damned territory.
Lexi materialized out of thin air and shouting at us. She must be able to smell me. I shifted back to myself. Everything in me wanted to run to her. Just as I was about to break free, she turned back in and disappeared. She thought she was losing her mind.
Cameron shifted back and put a hand on my back as my tears fell. I cried, “All I want is her. She knows I’m here, and I can’t even go to her. I’m such an idiot.” Cameron disagreed, “No, you aren’t.” I sat down with the intent to watch until she came back out. I admitted, “I feel like one. I should be in there with her.”
Cameron sat down next to me, “We will be out here, and anyone who comes for her will feel our wrath.” I wholeheartedly agreed. Lexi Scott was mine, and I’d be damned if someone hid her from me. I didn’t care who they were I’d stop them, even her brother. I wouldn’t kill him though. If whoever the fuck Noah was even tried; I’d rip his damn head of his shoulders.
Protect our Own
Lexi woke up to her burner phone going off. SHIT! I’d turned it on before I went to bed last night just in case. I jumped up. Only Ted and Haley had that number. I looked at who was calling and was immediately ready to curse my brother. I answered, “Ted? Are you alright? I’m so sorry! I told Heath not to bother you! If he scooped you up, I’ll get you out of there; after I kick his ass sister style.”
Ted sighed in relief, “They didn’t get you either?” I blew out a breath, “No, you’re safe?” I heard a low laugh. I smiled surmising, “You’re safe with company. Thank god. Don’t go back to your place until I sort this out with Heath. What time is it?”
Ted answered, “It’s pretty early, I’m sorry. Like four in the morning early. I was just worried. I knew you’d turn your other phone off and disconnect the SIM and battery so Heath couldn’t find you.” I laughed and felt a tinge of guilt that I’d never told my brother about my home here. Until my string ceremony, Heath and I were really close. I just couldn’t take Noah from him, but I had to distance myself from everything. It still hurt me to feel like I lost my best friend and brother to save him from losing the person closest to him.
I laughed it off, “A bit redundant since even if he found me, he couldn’t get inside my place or see it. I’m in my fairy protected house. Being stalked by a smell, that I have started talking to like a lunatic. I ran back outside to DEMAND a smell tell me who it was. I swear to you Ted, I have officially become paranoid.”
Ted laughed, “I think you’re just tired. How did you get away from your brother? Heath is just as fast as you are.” I laughed, “Heath sent Isaiah to come get me.” Ted snorted, “He didn’t even chase you, did he?”
I said, “We will maintain he did if anyone asks. I’m easily faster than him, chasing me would’ve been pointless. Thankfully, Isaiah told me what was going on before we drove home. I’d have gotten out, but it would’ve been more complicated. I swear to GOD I may murder the Lieutenant before this is all said and done. I cannot believe him. Why is he even monitoring Henrick’s activities?”
I heard a male voice ask, “Why do they not know Henrick is already dead? They wouldn’t come after you two if they knew that. They’d let you be.” I sighed, “I’m guessing that’s your brown wolf, Ted.” Ted giggled like a schoolgirl, “His name is Matt.”
I explained, “Well Ted’s brown wolf named Matt; they’d put Ted and I on a much longer lockdown if they knew Henrick had come after us. It would ruin the business we started and leave our other friend hanging. She’s signed contracts with us, and I don’t want to let her or Ted down. We’ve worked so hard, and I’m not letting some damn leak mess it up for us.”
Matt offered, “I can have my Alpha put the word out we were meeting with them, but they crossed us, so we killed him. That would have nothing to do with you.” I thought about that then asked, “Do you know another Alpha around here that could do that? Your pack’s too close to us and so is Alpha Eric’s.”
Matt immediately told me, “Henrick was staying in Red Run territory. Alpha Kyle would do that for us.” I accepted the offer, “Thank you, that would be great. Oh, and thank you for helping us with Henrick the other day. Reagan told me I sent flowers to the wrong pack. I’m going to send your Alpha some today.”
Matt sounded really amused when he told me, “He loves dark chocolate.” I made a mental note of that, “Alright, he gets dark chocolate. That’s a favorite of mine as well.” Ted squealed, “OOHHHH girl! He’s the black wolf you thought was beautiful. He’s not my Matt, but for you he’s perfect. I think we should double. He’s just your type.”
My mind flashed to Haley saying my string was out there. I admitted, “I don’t know that now is the time for that.” Ted brushed that off, “I know that you know you need to get laid. Ted knows it’s definitely time for that.” Matt choked on something.
I pointed out, “I have a vibrator. You should know that since you bought it for me. I just don’t think… Something about that black wolf just…. Take me off speaker.” Ted whispered, “Ok, off speaker.” I told him, “I dreamed about that wolf the other night. Something about him pulls me in. You know I haven’t put my heart on the line since everything with my ex.”
I blew out a breath, “I know that if I spend time with Chase, he’ll have my whole heart. Plus, Haley told me she knows my string. I told her I still want to meet him without being told his name, but he’s got some situation going on that Haley is trying to fix. I know her though, if she can fix it, she’ll find a fairy way to tell him who I am, and he’ll come find me. Before I wanted to wait for my string before my ex lied to me. I can’t do that now obviously, but I can make sure I’m not attached when he pops up.”
Ted was quiet for several moments then asked, “Lied to you?” Everything stopped. FUCK ME! Come on Lex! I hadn’t meant to say that to him. Ted pressed, “Lied to you about what?” I literally couldn’t force words out of my mouth. I had lied many times to many people, but I had never told Ted a lie. I may not tell him things, but I’ve never outright lied to him.
Ted raised his voice, “What did he do, Lex? Tell me about what happened. I won’t tell anyone. Well Matt, but that’s... Fuck it all to hell and back. Look I’ll tell you a secret of mine if you tell me yours.” I looked at the phone astonished. I questioned, “I’m sorry, you…. TeleTed are keeping a secret?”
