I picked up the pace a little when I could feel her quivering with need. She gripped my arms and I let my teeth elongate. When she screamed my name, I bit down on her neck. She made a choked sound of pleasure and clung to me. Bolt howled in victory as I came inside her.
My hold on the pack link faltered for a second as I could finally feel Lexi in our bond. There were howls of joy ringing out. Everyone was talking about their Luna being marked. Matt linked everyone, “DRINKS FOR EVERYONE! FUCKING FINALLY!” I rolled my eyes.
I closed the link and removed my teeth from Lexi's neck. I licked her neck and she shivered. Her eyes were barely open. I nuzzled her, “I should've mentioned that my mark would likely take it out of you.” Lexi murmured, “That’s ok. I haven’t slept since I left really other than on the plane.”
I frowned, “You need to take better care of yourself.” I pulled out of her and pulled her close to me. She mumbled, “Something about a hypocrisy horse.” I snorted, “What?” Lexi smiled in response and said, “Haley’s saying. I’m finally really yours.” With that she fell asleep. I kissed her forehead, “You have always been mine, Lexi Scott. Always.” She was out like a light.
I grabbed my phone while holding her in my arms. Cameron and my dad had both texted me. Just as I was about to put my phone down Susie called me. I smiled and answered quietly, “Hello, Susie.” Susie squealed, “I TOLD you he’d answer my call, dad!” I laughed silently.
Susie chattered excitedly, “Everyone said they felt our Luna had been marked. Is it true? Did you mark Lexi?” I confirmed, “I did.” Susie squealed, “YAY! She’s staying with us just like she promised!” I teased, “Isn’t it well past your bedtime?” Susie shouted, “WHO COULD SLEEP?! Everyone is buzzing with energy. Everyone is so, so happy Chase.”
I heard my dad say, “Let me talk to him Susie.” Susie sighed, “I guess I have to give the phone to dad now.” I laughed, “Go to sleep, Susie.” She sighed, “If Lexi tells me to, I will.” I chuckled, “Lexi is exhausted. She didn’t sleep much and being marked by me took the rest of the wind out of her sails.” Susie huffed, “Oh, alright then.” She handed the phone to my dad and screamed, “WE HAVE A LUNA AND SHE’S A PRINCESS!” I laughed.
My dad said, “It’s a party over here. Nadine wants to start planning Lexi’s Luna Ceremony.” I looked at Lexi, “That’s going to be up to her. I know she’ll want Haley Conners there. I’m not going to offend my mate or Alpha Eric’s by having her ceremony without them.”
My dad snorted, “Unless the man has earplugs, and he doesn’t, he knows what just happened.” I asked, “It’s that loud of a party?” My dad snorted, “Yes, it is. How do you think Cameron knows? We haven’t joined the packs yet. It’s so loud they heard it. Sophia called to ask what we were celebrating.”
I cautiously asked, “What did Matt tell her?” My dad laughed, “What do you think he told her?” I heard a drunk Matt holler, “Matt told her that it was none of her nosey rosy business!” I laughed, “So, are you the only one not drunk, dad?” My dad answered, “Yes, me and a few warriors.”
My phone beeped letting me know that I had an incoming call. I told him, “Sophia is calling me.” My dad asked, “What are you going to tell her?” I answered, “Nothing. I’m not answering.” I heard Matt, “I’ll call her back. Ted, did I not make it clear she was to leave Chase alone?” Ted cooed, “I heard it clear as day. I love you something stupid, Matt.” I snorted, “Have fun with the drunk’s dad.” My dad laughed, “I always do.”
Lexi hadn’t stirred throughout the whole conversation. My phone rang again. I smiled and answered, “Cameron.” Reagan squealed, “And Reagan.” I laughed, “Hello to both of you.” Reagan joked, “Your pack is trying to raise the dead.” Cameron agreed, “They are excited, and Alpha Eric called me.”
I replied, “First, the pack is all of ours now not just mine. Second, did he? So, they are back from Russia? He hasn’t called me.” Cameron replied, “He asked if he missed an invitation to your party. One of his wolves is pacing your border. He is back. His group popped back not long after you boarded your plane.”
I asked, “Why is one of his wolves pacing our border?” Cameron explained, “He smells his mate.” I said, “Let the poor guy in to get his mate then.” Cameron laughed, “I called dad. He’s sending Isaac to get the poor bastard and bring him over.”
I teased, “Is there anything else I can help you two with?” Reagan asked, “How’s Lexi?” I answered, “She’s sleeping.” Reagan said, “Yeah, I think the fairies are the only ones I’ve heard of that didn’t get wiped out from being marked. I was out for like twelve hours.” I wasn’t sure if anything could knock Haley down.
Cameron warned, “If Lexi’s brother is watching our pack, he’s going to know what just happened. Hell, he doesn’t even have to be watching. They probably heard the party in the Shroud.” I scoffed, “I don’t give a shit. She asked me to mark her. Did he think I would say no?”
Cameron said, “I don’t claim to know what Health Scott thinks.” I didn’t reply. Eventually Cameron commented, “So, New Year’s Eve with two Luna’s.” I sighed, “Lexi is going to Faerie for New Year’s Eve.” Cameron was surprised, “Oh….”
I explained, “She asked me to go with her but I can’t. Apparently, she and Haley traditionally spend said holiday together. We will have to throw a joint one with Alpha Eric or something next year.” Cameron agreed, “Count me in. Their parties are always fun.” I pointed out, “So are ours.” Cameron laughed, “They are.”
He was quiet for a moment then said, “I’m really happy for you, Chase.” I smiled, “I feel a lot more settled. I didn’t realize how frantic I was until right after she was marked.” Cameron snickered, “We noticed.” Reagan agreed, “Did we ever.” I laughed, “I’m going to go now.” Cameron quickly said, “We really are happy for you both.” Reagan added, “Yeah, now don’t fuck it up.” I assured her, “I don’t plan to.” I hung up the phone.
Sophia called again. I sighed then decided to answer. I greeted her curtly, “Sophia.” Sophia replied, “Chase, your pack is going crazy.” I responded in a clipped tone, “I heard.” Sophia asked, “Why?” I said, “You’ll have to ask Matt, I’m on vacation.” Sophia snorted, “While the Alpha is away and all.” I responded, “Something like that.”
Sophia said, “I have warriors on your border just in case someone attacks while they are partying.” I sighed, “Thank you, Sophia. They could handle themselves, but I really do appreciate it.” Sophia quietly offered, “We are still friends, aren’t we Chase?”
I looked down at Lexi. I said, “You’ll always be my friend. You’re doing what you feel you have to and so am I.” Sophia sounded confused, “Ok. I’ll see you at Alpha Lucas’ wedding, right? Are you bringing your girlfriend?” I said, “She’s going to be busy.”
Sophia shuffled papers, “Of course, that makes sense. She’s a party planner. I’m sure she has a lot of parties to plan. I’d like to meet her.” I put that off, “One day.” Mentally I added the day she gives me an annulment she could meet Lexi, and not a day before.
Sophia told me, “I’m happy she makes you happy.” I offered, “You’ll find happiness too.” Sophia laughed, “I don’t know that I will. My lot in life seems to be looking for betrayal in those closest to me.” I replied, “Not everyone will betray you. I’ve never have.” Bolt huffed, “Even when she betrayed us.” True.
Sophia softened her tone, “I know, and I’m sorry. I don’t think I’ve actually said I’m sorry but I am.” I questioned, “For what?” Sophia said, “For not explaining why I backed out of our deal. For not trusting you with knowing about my parents being murdered.”
I said, “I’d prefer you be sorry for backing out and just give me what I want. What you promised to give me.” Sophia said, “I will. I just... I’m close. I can feel it.” I cut her off, “I’m sorry if my pack’s party disturbed you.” I couldn’t deal with her selfish reasons for lying to me right now. Not after I just marked Lexi. Sophia said, “It was one of the more interesting things that happened today.” I said, “Goodnight, Sophia.” She answered, “Good night, Chase.”
Derrick texted me saying he was happy for Lexi and I. Ted texted congratulations and saying if I hurt Lexi, he’d find a way to hurt me. At least that’s why I think he said. His drunk text was mostly gibberish. I was about to go to bed when Alpha Eric called. I winced but ultimately decided to answer.
I greeted, “Alpha Eric.” He replied, “Alpha Chase. I have warriors on my border with you. We’ll increase our patrols since they are busy celebrating things I don’t know about. By the way, you’re lucky that my wife doesn’t have supernatural hearing. Or I’d fly to Virgin Islands to punch you in the face.” I asked, “How did you know where I am?” Alpha Eric laughed, “Because while Dylan proclaims himself to be the man who knows things, I know other things. Like where you are.”
I sighed, “I’m sorry if this puts you in a spot.” He snorted, “We’ve all been in quite the spot. Sometimes I think the Moon Goddess is messing with me for all the times I complained about waiting for my mate. Relationships are complicated, be that mates, friends, and other associations. Feelings complicate things.”
I understood what he was saying. Haley had a group of people she loved, which meant he would protect them all. I was his mentee, but Lexi was Haley’s friend. He was trying to protect a lot of people. I said, “You don’t have to solve everything, you know?” He scoffed, “I don’t but I still try. I should’ve stepped in when I knew Sophia backed out of your deal.” I frowned, “Not really.”
