I pushed his hands away yelling, “Are you serious?! Is that a bad thing?! What she does is dangerous! She goes in to assassinate people! She could get caught! If she got caught, she would be tortured and killed. So, YES CAMERON! THAT’S A BAD FUCKING THING! The Black Arrow is on the kill list of god knows how many people! Seriously! Matt, how many people is it?!” Matt cringed, “Umm..”
I groaned, “My god, it’s not even just this country. It’s worldwide. A shit ton of people would love to torture and kill my mate, and you all act like it’s not a big deal!” My dad reasoned, “Son, people have wanted to kill the Black Arrow for about three years now. She’s still around, and obviously she’s not dead.”
I grumbled, “Yes, but now she has a psycho ex who knows she’s the damn Black Arrow running around. Someone is selling her out. It’s been happening since before I met her.” Derrick commented, “You’re freaking out.” I shouted, “YES! WILL SOMEONE JOIN ME?!”
Cameron said, “She can take care of herself. Right now, she’s with our allies. Nothing will happen to her.” I sat down, “She saved Sophia’s pack.” Cameron teased, “Well, then you can’t completely hate Heath. He knows you're married to her, and he didn’t tell Lexi about her being your wife even for this mission.”
I snarked, “Could everyone stop making rational points about this entire situation?” Apparently not, because my dad had more rational points, “The Moon Goddess has fated the two of you, and so has Lexi’s War Goddess. She’s yours. Provided you get off your ass and mark her.” A thought hit me that made me relax.
I asked, “Would you be able to see her mark in her BA outfit? You’re the only one who’s met her in her gear in this room.” My dad thought about it, “No, you couldn’t.” Bolt huffed in my head. I yelled, “FUCK! Of course not! Then she couldn’t go out like that. OF COURSE, her outfit hides it. Why did she have to be the best? Why did she have to be vital to their entire organization?”
No one said anything. Cameron said, “You should be proud of her.” I sat down, “I am so damn proud of her. She made a name for herself. She’s fast, efficient, and damn formidable. Do you have any idea how it feels to know how much danger she’s in? I can’t stand it. She’s among friends and allies right now, but she’s normally alone. That’s the Black Arrow’s thing. She typically works alone or with the Hackura Princess. Which we now know is Haley Conners.” Cameron pointed out, “Which is who she’s with at the moment. Haley won’t let anything happen to Lexi.”
A knock on the door halted our conversation. I told Cameron, “Open it.” Kevin and Kincade came in seconds later. They looked at me first. Kincade asked, “Is the Luna alright?” I sighed and used my Alpha Command, “What I say doesn’t leave this room. You’re her protection so you need to know.” Both glanced at each other, then nodded.
I announced, “Lexi is the Black Arrow.” Kevin looked surprised but Kincade didn’t. I raised an eyebrow. Kincade answered my unspoken question, “I’ve caught a flash of black around a few times. Then there’s the fact that the Black Arrow keeps saving your father and your family specifically. The doc said she briefly panicked when he announced Nadine was down.” I’d imagine she was. My dad growled.
Kincade continued, “Nadine said she swore the Black Arrow looked almost sick when she told her to save Susie. According to people, Susie was saying the Black Arrow reminded her of Lexi; however, when I asked your sister about it she refused to meet my eye or answer me. Based on all of that, I figured the Luna was the Black Arrow.”
It was solid logic, and part of how he became our lead warrior so young. The other part was his strength. He trained very hard to win that tournament. I asked, “Any other theories you’d care to share?” Kincade said, “I suspect Susanna is the Avenging Angel.” I thought about that, “You’re probably right. BA and AA are friends.”
Kincade explained, “I figured that out after questioning TeleTed about the apartment the Luna signed a lease for. He said that Susanna was sure Lexi would like your apartment complex the best based on the fact that they’ve previously lived together. It’s long been speculated that BA and AA were both in Europe together because they appeared multiple times over there over the course of several months.” I acknowledged, “You’re right.”
I cleared my throat and continued, “No one, and I do mean no one, can know this.” Kevin said, “It explains why Lexi ditches us sometimes. She’s used to being solo.” I winced, “Which I’m sure will be a hard habit for her to break and will undoubtedly cause arguments between us.”
Cameron asked, “Huh?” I can’t believe I had to explain this, “She’s part of the pack now, Cameron.” My dad coughed, “Not yet.” I growled, “SHUT UP! She’s MINE!” I took a deep breath then added, “In packs we work together not separately. For us wolves being alone without a pack is dangerous. That’s how we get rogues.”
Matt argued, “She’s not a wolf in danger of going feral.” I glared at him, “If Ted had missions and a moniker, could you sit around not knowing what was happening to him? I won’t be able to know where she is. God, I want to call Heath Scott.”
Matt sounded happy to have a task, “I can get him on the phone.” I huffed, “You can’t. I want to talk terms about Lexi’s missions. He can’t know that I know she’s BA. She doesn't have permission to tell me.” My dad reasoned, “He’ll agree to no missions when she’s pregnant.” I scoffed, “Will he?” Cameron said, “Come on, big brother. Of course, he will. She’s his little sister. He might kill you for knocking her up, but he won’t have her go out on a mission carrying his niece or nephew.”
Someone knocked on the door. Matt opened it and Ted came in. Sally was behind him. Ted asked, “What’s happening? You said she was ok. Is she not ok?” Sally assured him, “She’s always fine, Ted.” I agreed, “She’s fine.” Ted asked, “Why are we in here then?” I answered, “Honestly? I have no clue. Who asked you to come here?”
Ted looked at Matt. I glared at him, not that he cared. Matt said, “I would like you two to tell Chase here what the Hood’s policy is on pregnant women and missions.” Sally frowned, “Lexi’s not pregnant.” Ted agreed, “She’s definitely not. Her and Haley got trashed the other day. If she was glowing Haley wouldn’t have let her do that. Plus, she’s not marked and she’s on the pill.”
Matt explained, “Chase is worried that she will go on missions carrying his pup.” Ted frowned, “It depends.” I growled, “On what?” Sally answered, “If something is deemed dangerous. It’s always the woman’s choice though. Some women take themselves out of the field all together. The Hood himself always respects their decisions.”
I rubbed my temples, “So, you’re saying if Lexi was pregnant, she could go out as her moniker or out with an alias to gather information.” Ted jumped in, “No, that’s not what we are saying. Moniker missions aren’t allowed. The calling card phone is given to someone else.” Sally snorted.
My eyes narrowed, “What was that snort?” Sally shrugged, “Ted’s right the phone is taken away.” I pressed, “But.” Ted sighed, “But Lexi has a clone of her phone. She wouldn’t do anything dangerous if she was pregnant.” I raised an eyebrow. Ted amended, “Well, not heavily pregnant anyway.”
Sally laughed, “Lexi is independent.” Ted said, “She would never do anything to harm her child though.” I commented, “This is not helping me, Matt.” Matt said, “I heard no moniker missions. Let’s take that wonderful piece of information and run with it.”
Cameron chimed in, “You guys have time to figure it out. You’re not having a kid anytime soon.” I sighed. Matt said, “Why don’t you pack your suitcase for your getaway, for which we have a secret countdown calendar for when you return so much less grumpy from?”
I ignored the jab and asked, “What if she doesn’t make it back?” Matt replied, “She’ll make it back.” I said, “I’m waiting by the front door.” Ted clapped, “I’ll pack his bag. I need something to do. Where are you going?” I answered, “I’m taking her to my family home in the Virgin Islands.” Ted squealed, “She’ll love that.” He flashed out.
Matt said, “Well, at least that’s one person distracted.” Sally said, “I’m going to cook.” Derrick smiled, “We need to start feeding the pack with the amount of food she’s been cooking lately.” My dad smiled, “It’s really good too.”
I waved my hand, “Cameron can take some home with him. Call some warriors and get them to bring SUVs over and take food home, little brother.” Cameron asked, “There’s really that much food?” Derrick chuckled, “Yes.”
We all walked back outside my office. They scattered, but I paced. Time ceased to mean things to me. I couldn’t leave my spot I couldn’t stop watching the door. My dad said, “You need to sleep.” I huffed, “I do sleep. It’s just on the floor.” My dad advised, “Get some real sleep in your own bed.” I shook my head, “I can’t.” He left.
Matt came in with Cameron and they watched me pace for an hour. Cameron finally said, “Chase, we are worried about you.” I ran a hand through my hair, “I can’t feel her. I have no way of knowing if she’s ok. I can’t leave the house because I don’t know if she’ll go to her stupid apartment or her home. What if she comes here and I was there? I just need to see that she’s ok.” They gave up.
I did paperwork and snarled at anyone who spoke back to me. I heard Matt muttering thanks to the Mood Goddess. I was about to ask what he was talking about when I heard Lexi. I ran to her and kissed her, putting all my feelings into it.
I heard Matt whisper on his phone, “She’s back.” I led her outside. I just knew her phone would go off if I didn’t get her on the plane. I ran to the car and started off. Matt linked me, “Don’t get in a wreck.” I retorted, “I have excellent reflexes.” Matt argued, “You haven’t been sleeping much. I can have someone drive you.” I said, “I don’t need much sleep, neither do you.” Matt said, “Just mark her for all our sakes.” I replied, “I will.”
