Once I reached the city, I flashed past people left and right. As I reached the place that was only a few feet from Emmaline’s location I heard a pop. Haley greeted me, “Well isn’t that fucking convenient. I swear to God the Ribbon does not consider the events happening in MY reality when it pulls me away. Hey, BA.”
I smiled, “Hi, Haley. Let’s get this done quickly. I’ve got a big romantic weekend getaway to get to, and I’m actually looking forward to it.” Megan said, “There’s a ward up, Haley.” I smiled, “Megan. Long time no see. How’s your little girl?” We met when I came home while I was working to start Bullseye.
Megan smiled, “She’s great.” Haley asked, “Can you take the ward down ,Megan?” Megan snorted, “Lisa and I can handle it.” I commented, “I bet I can get in.” I smirked as I ran through. Haley held out her hand, “Pull me through.”
Lisa shouted, “HALEY! We can get you through, just give us a minute.” I asked her, “Are you sure?” Haley pointed out, “I don’t say things I don’t mean.” I sighed. Megan was exasperated, “WAIT! Let us weaken it first. It will take one minute. It’s like I saw this coming after spending all that time with you at Damon’s.”
Haley literally counted to sixty and then reached as far as she could towards me. I grabbed her hand and yanked her through. Burns coated her body, but she didn’t scream. I gagged almost throwing up my lunch. It was so bad.
Haley closed her eyes. Molly cried out, “HALEY!” Haley began to heal herself. It took her five minutes. She opened her eyes as a portal opened and Astrid stepped through with Haley’s brother’s other mates. I asked, “Is Katie not with you?” Astrid laughed, “Logan has her on lockdown.” I nodded, “Right. She’s pregnant.” Astrid nodded.
Astrid asked, “Did we miss something?” Megan snorted, “Haley being Haley. Impatient as all get out.” A witch hissed, “How did you two get in here?” Haley smirked, “Perfect. A witch bitch. Let’s kill people, BA.” She was on another level killing people. I glanced back at Astrid who frowned but was still impressed. What in the actual hell was going on?
I let my arrows fly. We’d taken out fifty people when the rest of the girls joined us. We used the trees for cover. We heard voices and went towards them. Astrid gasped. Haley winced, “Shit.” I asked, “Who’s the dead woman?” Haley answered, “Emmaline’s mother.” I said, “Oh…. well…”
I didn’t get to finish because one of the warlock’s raised his weapon and aimed at Emmaline. I shot him without a second thought. Haley laughed and brought the wind. She said, “Let’s ruin his whole damn day.” I agreed, “He ruined my date so I’m in.”
Emmaline started introducing us. I kept shooting people because it was making me feel better. Every person I shot was one person closer to going home to Chase. To finally being his officially. I stalled briefly realizing it bothered me that wasn’t official. Seriously? Now was NOT the time for these types of realizations.
When Emmaline introduced me, I stepped out of the tree line. The Hackura women were having a great time. David finally lost it, declaring we couldn't beat his coven. Seriously? We were well on our way to decimating them.
All of us laughed when Haley said we cut through them like cake. You had to love the woman. David was upset we’d gotten in. I couldn’t help but rub it in that he didn’t have the Hood warded out. He didn’t know I was friends with Emmaline. Idiot. He didn’t do basic recon.
Haley was ready to kill David. After he called us weak, I was on board. Everyone stopped when David’s follower said Dustin was dead. Astrid came to stand by me. I told her, “You’ll have to get Aubree to the Hackura realm if she gets hysterical.” Astrid said, “Dustin is not dead. Alexander healed him. It actually took all the triplets. EJ and Cassie don’t have a strong healing ability, but they used what little they had. Alexander used all he had. Dustin really is fine.”
I sighed in relief. I asked, “Does Haley know that?” Astrid nodded, “She does. We told her when she called and told us to get here.” Emmaline called the water from the lake. It was really impressive. She targeted the man who had said Dustin was dead and pulled him into the lake.
Astrid chuckled, “Well, that’s one way to handle it.” David insulted Emmaline’s mother after Haley assured her Dustin wasn’t dead. Emmaline drowned the man in the lake by pulling him under. She screamed and rushed at David.
Astrid groaned, “That is less helpful.” I shrugged, “Rage. What can you do?” Astrid ran into the fight. I kept shooting. I was clearing Emmaline’s path to David. He seemed to have some sort of protection around him. I couldn’t hit him with an arrow. It merely deflected. He smirked at me. Asshole.
Haley began to go through those that got past my arrows. I loved working with her. We were one hell of a team. I began to fire multiple arrows at once. David asked how I was doing that. Seriously? My ability to reload was faster than anything he could imagine.
I stalled my arrow when David mentioned his spell that should’ve killed Haley. Calista, or Cali as her friends called her, appeared beside me eyes were blazing. She hissed, “If he means the spell that kept her from moving in Faerie while they tortured her, he’s beyond dead.” I said, “I think that’s exactly what he means.”
Haley killed people important to David. Calista smiled proudly, “She’s just good, and there’s no denying it. Killing the people important to his cause. If Haley gets in on someone’s revenge scheme, like a real one and not a prank one, we should all be scared.” I laughed, “I think she has one for the Troll.” Calista laughed, “You’re right, she does.” I was about to ask about Alania when I heard yelling.
Aubree yelled at Emmaline to pop away. I took off running. I’d been around fairies long enough Emmaline was too focused to listen. Haley knew it too. I grabbed Emmaline’s arm much to the dismay of David. His horrified face was the last thing I saw as I fell through the holoport with Haley and Emmaline.
I told Haley we didn’t stick the landing as we all thudded on a cement floor. Emmaline commented on how fast I was. I had to laugh. She’d never seen me run before. I guess it was fair she was surprised. Someone got our attention.
I looked around and realized we were in a basement. A voodoo basement. I recognized the dolls around us. Did we get holoported to Louisiana? Haley told the guy advancing on us that he wasn’t lucky. I echoed that thought, these people were dead. Haley pointed out it was one on three.
More people begin to emerge. I glanced at Emmaline who’d seen it too. I told Haley it was not one on three. Haley was trying to figure out who these people were. Emmaline figured it out at the same time I did. This was Satan’s coven. I wanted to groan. Heath had considered wiping them out two years ago and decided against it. We should’ve just done it.
Haley listened to the man talk for several minutes. She shrugged at me then started killing people. I held back my laugh and I began to shoot those advancing on Haley. Emmaline began to fight too. It was comical to see people getting hit with hail. Their faces were priceless. I watched as Emmaline disabled a man and took his knife then she killed him with it. I laughed because I’d seen Haley do that.
Haley was training her younger cousin to fight. Emmaline told me they trained every Thursday. I took my bow and smashed a guy's face in. I kneeled on his neck snapping it. They’d made me postpone my lunch, and maybe my getaway. I was not going to be nice to them. Emmaline said I was cute when I was happy. I glanced up and her eyes held a little worry.
Haley agreed it was cute that I was so happy. She asked me if she was going to get to meet him. I smiled at her as guilt hit me. I told her the truth, she had to meet him she was family. I told her that he needed her stamp of approval. Haley’s eyebrows raised then she shot me a wink. She knew. She just did. Emmaline only grew more worried. I raised an eyebrow back at Haley. I was surprised she hadn’t told Emmaline her suspicions about Chase and me. If only to keep her from worrying.
On the other hand, I understood why she hadn’t. She wouldn’t want Emmaline to have keep a secret. Something told me Haley hadn’t even told Eric she suspected Chase and I had met. They each might be surprised to find out the other knows. Well, Haley wouldn’t be surprised that Eric knew.
The leader of Satan’s coven broke our moment telling us we had to die. Haley was curious which one of us should kill him. I loaded an arrow. I’d cut my date with Chase short. His ass was mine. He said we couldn't kill him as Haley and Emmaline agreed I could take him out.
I sank an arrow into his heart. He really should’ve just said no to doing a favor for David. The man smiled and told Haley and I we couldn't go with Emmaline this time. We both turned as Emmaline screamed Haley's name. Haley grabbed her but she just faded away. Haley screamed at Emmaline to call on her for protection. No call came.
The man on the ground laughed, “You can’t save her.” Haley hissed, “I will fucking save her. You just won’t be around to see it.” Haley beheaded him. Her eyes blazed again with a hint of green. What WAS that other color?
