Ted shook himself. He said, “Let’s move onto that look you had last night.” I sighed, “What about it?” Ted smacked my arm, “Girl, don’t play with TeleTed.” I admitted, “I want to have a baby with Chase.” Ted nodded, “When?” I stuck my tongue out, “Soon, I guess.”
Ted squealed like a teenage girl at a One Direction concert, “YES GIRL! Our kids have to be best friends! We will have to have them all the same time. They can be a few months apart like us, but that’s it. OHHH This is perfect!”
I admitted, “Part of me wonders if we should wait until all this Noah stuff is behind us. Or until Heath and Chase get over their issues.” Ted advised, “Girl, you do not put off the things that are important to you because life gets in the way. You’d never do anything because something would always be coming up. Anyway, from my research it likely won’t happen until you're marked. Then you have to go off birth control.”
I raised my eyebrows, “Research?” Ted nodded, “I asked Haley to look into it for Sally.” I pressed, “And?” Ted explained, “The wolves who mated with humans, who mirror us reproductively, don’t get pregnant until after they are marked. Birth control or not.” I frowned, “We don’t mirror humans, they are pregnant for nine months.” Ted rolled his eyes, “But we don’t have heat, or a concupiscence like fairy’s. We are like humans who ovulate. So, we need to get on Chase marking you. Then it’s baby time.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. Ted asked, “What?” I nudged him, “You’re a day late and a dollar short to that party. Susie already has a project name for it. I guess I just start trying when you, Matt, and Joanie do your first IUI.”
Ted clapped, “GIRL! Read me into Susie’s project! YES! I love everything about this plan and I don’t know it yet. Our kids will be SO CLOSE together.” I laughed, “It’s called Project Mischief. We are going to get Chase’s possessive juices flowing. Reagan and I are going into Eric and Haley’s territory for a girl’s night. I’m going to let guys flirt with me so that Reagan, Kincade, and Kevin report that back to Chase.” He nodded, “Loving it, keep it going. Bring it home for me.”
I laughed, “Then on our getaway he has planned, I’m going to somehow find a way to let someone flirt with me in front of him. I’ll get him to take me home and when he’s claiming me; I’ll ask him to mark me.”
Ted laughed, “I think you could just ask him. He’s already denying himself.” I admitted, “I probably will. I doubt I’d be able to even look at a guy while I’m out with Chase.” Ted shrugged, “The rest is easy, people flirt with you all the time.”
I disagreed, “All the time is a bit of an overstatement, but I do alright.” Ted snorted, “You do more than alright, but ok.” I laughed, “It’s weird.” Ted said, “But it’s all perfect. You, me, and Sally all together. She’s so loved here. I hated seeing her with the Troll’s family. Everyone did. They didn’t deserve her. She was several classes above them.”
I sighed, “His mom isn’t that bad.” Ted said, “She’s the ONLY one. His dad is so angry all the time, I just don’t know why. Well, Noel’s ok. Denise wasn’t happy about Sally though. She wanted you. Everyone else thought it was you and Noah forever.” I raised an eyebrow, “You didn’t.” Ted snorted, “Hell no I didn’t. You are a star, and he’s merely a dandelion. A star and dandelion don’t belong together.” That’s true.
I stood and made us a quick breakfast. We both ate quickly. I told him, “Go get back home. I’m going to run the territory.” Ted chuckled, “Damn, you really are just trying to get around the whole asking for permission to tell Chase you’re the Black Arrow.” I sighed, “If only you could just tell Matt.”
Ted pointed out, “You haven’t met him or Chase as BA yet.” I said, “I would think Chase could tell in person that I’m the Black Arrow. Through the phone and video chat though not so much. Matt would definitely be suspicious.”
Ted waved me away, “Go run around trying to reveal your big secret.” I reasoned, “Hey, Heath couldn’t get mad this way.” Ted scoffed, “Puh-lease Yes, he could and he would. He would know that was your intent.” I admitted, “That’s true BUT if I don’t tell Chase I’m not breaking the rules.” Ted rolled his eyes, “Go on with your having a fairy best friend and finding your loopholes a certain Princess loves so much.” I laughed.
He dashed back to his house with Matt, and I took off running the border. I wasn’t very far from the main house when I saw two men laying on the ground. I closed my eyes hoping they were alright. I was shocked when I got close enough to them to see who it was. It was Frank and Isaac. Both were bleeding from head wounds.
I heard wolves snarling in the distance. I quickly put it together, it was an attack. I hauled both Frank and Isaac up. I put one on each shoulder. I raised my face to the sky, “Thank you War Goddess for making us super strong or this would be a trip and a half.”
I ran as fast as I could with both of them. The same doctor I’d seen last time I brought Frank in was running through the halls. He was yelling at everyone to be ready for patients. He turned when someone pointed at me.
His eyes widened and he asked, “Is the Black Arrow this pack’s guardian angel? Or are you Alpha Frank’s guardian angel? His mate might feel some type of way about that.” I snorted and put Isaac and Frank down on the gurney’s they’d brought out.
I explained, “I found them unconscious. I don’t know what happened.” The doctor frowned, “We are under attack.” I questioned, “Who’s attacking?” The doctor answered, “Rogues.” He stiffened, “Nadine is hurt! EVERYONE GET READY!”
I took off figuring Nadine would be at the main house. I saw a wolf about to go for her throat. Her legs were broken, and she’d shifted back from her wolf in pain. I aimed my arrow and sunk it through the heart of the wolf that was about to rip open her throat. He quickly shifted back to human form dead.
The rogue's attention were briefly on me before they all died from my arrows. I bent down by Nadine, asking, “Are you alright?” She sat up and grabbed me by the coat. “Save my little girl! I’m begging you! She’s only five years old.”
My blood ran cold. Someone had Susie? I said, “I promise you; I’ll get your daughter back. Nothing will happen to her. I swear to the War Goddess.” I’d kill anyone in my path to bring Susie home. Nadine gasped in pain, “Susie. Her name is Susie.”
I put Nadine in a fireman’s carry. She groaned in pain, but I didn't have time to be careful. I ran her back to the hospital. The doctor was back in the hall. He looked at me strangely. I put Nadine down and took out her necklace. I put it in her hand and took off.
My phone rang an emergency ringtone. I looked at it as I ran. The read out said Julia Child. That was my code for Sally. Her GPS showed her at her house. I headed towards her. When I got there, I saw a man carrying Susie. She was screaming and crying for her mother.
A rage I’d never felt before overtook me. I let my arrows fly. My aim was on target, and my arrows killed everyone in their path. I saw my ex, but he was blue. Why on god’s green earth was he blue? Sometimes we painted ourselves to match terrain, but nothing around here was blue. What the hell was going on?
His eyes met mine. He seemed startled by what he saw reflected back. I couldn’t blame him. I’d never been this angry in my entire life. I caught up to Susie and ripped her away from the man. I pulled a knife out of my shoe and buried it right into his spinal cord so he couldn’t move. I put Susie behind me and shot several arrows at Noah. It would’ve hit him if he hadn’t been near a holoport.
Fuck witches. I was officially with Haley; they’ve got to go. WAIT! Haley. I called her. A voice answered, “Haley’s phone.” I hung up without saying anything. If Haley wasn’t answering that meant she couldn’t.
I heard Sally’s call, “BA! Over here! I’ll pull you and Susie through!” I ran to her voice. Her arms quickly yanked us both inside. Sally was sobbing, “This is all my fault. I’m so sorry, Susie.” Susie was in a state of shock. She whispered, “My mom…”
I assured her, “I got your mom to the doctor. She’s going to be fine.” I turned to Sally as Susie held her arms around her body and rocked herself on her feet. I consoled her, “Sally, his crazy isn’t your fault. Whatever he does, that’s not on you. You’ve moved on. He’s the ONLY one responsible. He’s making choices. So are you and you have a child to protect. I’m leaving Susie with you, so make that two children to protect.”
Sally told me, “He was talking crazy. He said he knew I was here, and that he had a way to make me come out. He said he sent Derrick into a trap!” She started to sob. I grabbed her shoulders, “Feel your bond with Derrick. What do you feel?” Sally hiccupped then said, “Excitement. He’s excited.” I chuckled, “Of course he is. He’s a wolf and he’s fighting. You’ll know if he’s hurt.”
Susie sobbed, “That man said mommy was dead.” I turned to see her pointing at the man I’d incapacitated. I was practically vibrating I was so angry. Sally asked, “BA?” I turned and knelt down to Susie’s level. I promised, “I swear to you that your mom was alive when I left her at the hospital. She was hurt, but her main concern was you. She made me promise to save you.”
