My dad linked me, “Is that a…?” I cut him off answering, “Yes.” Derrick’s fork hit resistance and he frowned. He looked at the pie and he dropped the fork after plucking out the binky that was stuck in his pie.
He asked, “Sally….?” Sally smiled, “Yes?” Derrick held up the binky. He whispered, “Are you…?” Sally squealed, “YES!” Everyone jumped up yelling their congratulations. Derrick swung Sally around. He kissed her. When he pulled back, he told her, “I love you, Sally Quaid.” She smiled, “I love you too.”
Lexi and Ted hugged Sally as the rest of us hugged Derrick. Reagan grabbed Sally the second she was free. She exclaimed, “GOD! This was such a hard secret to keep! I’ve had to avoid my little brother.” Derrick yelled, “YOU KNEW?!”
Cameron clapped, “I knew you had a secret!” Reagan explained, “I was with Sally when Haley popped in. She wanted to see if her Google recipe for her Thanksgiving pie was right. Sally added a few things, and then she told Sally she was glowing.”
Cameron said, “I didn’t even know you were hanging out at her shop.” Reagan rolled her eyes, “Cameron, she’s my brother’s mate. Of course, I’m getting to know her.” Derrick’s parents hugged Sally. They were thrilled, “This is so great! A grandpup!”
I hugged Derrick, “I’m so happy for you, man. I know you’ve always wanted a big family.” Sally smiled, “Yup, we are the trial couple for Hood/werewolf babies. We’ll just have to see how long this one cooks. We have an appointment tomorrow with the pack OB.” Derrick was stunned, “And she didn’t tell me?” Sally laughed, “I swore her to secrecy. Haley told me I could do that as the Gamma Female.”
For someone who had never been in a pack, I was stunned that Haley knew that. It didn’t seem like Cassandra was teaching her, but Molly could’ve told her. That just wasn’t high on the priority list for teaching pack ways to newcomers. I shrugged it off.
Susie asked, “What about Chase and Lexi? When are you guys going to have a pup?” Nadine scolded, “Susie!” Susie frowned, “What? It would be fun to have cousins!” I jumped in, “Lexi and I haven’t planned that out yet.” Susie frowned, “But Matt and Ted will have a pup this summer, Sally will have one soon, and so will Reagan and Cam. Chase and his Princess have to have one too!”
Matt linked me, “Your mate had a longing look for a whole five seconds before she noticed Nadine and I were looking at her.” I couldn’t process that. I told Susie, “Lexi and I will have a pup when we are ready, ok? Right now, we are going to be REALLY happy for Sally and Derrick.” Susie sighed, “I am.” I teased, “Tell your face that squirt.” Susie stuck her tongue out at me. She turned to her mom, “Maybe you could give me a sibling.” We all laughed as Nadine turned red.
Derrick didn’t let Sally out of his sight the rest of the night. Eventually, everyone left. I asked Lexi, “Do you want to sleep here or your place?” She smiled softly, “Here is fine.” We went upstairs together. She commented, “This was a lot of fun. Once I got here.” She winked. I pulled her to me. “You’re going to take years off my life woman.” She laughed, “Aww come on!” I hugged her.
She nudged me, “It’s crazy about Derrick and Sally, isn’t it? She was so excited to tell him.” I questioned, “When did she tell you?” Lexi smiled, “She sent me a text when we were in the kitchen.” I realized something, “That’s what Ted squealed about?” Lexi snorted, “Yes, she told him by putting the binky into the pie. We didn’t want anyone to come running him so we both slapped him on the arm.” I laughed, “He’s just not used to werewolf hearing yet. It happens.”
Lexi bit her lip seeming nervous. I rubbed her shoulders, “Hey, what’s bothering you?” She shrugged, “I’m just thinking.” I pushed, “About what?” She blurted out, “Do you think a few years is too long? I know we are young, but…” I kissed her.
When I pulled back I said, “Whenever you want to try for a pup is fine with me.” Lexi teased me, “Even if your situation is still going on?” I explained, “That has a drop dead date, that your best friend/little sister says doesn’t work for her. She wants it to be sooner. I’m guessing if it’s not solved by the time you decide you want to have a pup, she’ll skip all her trying to be nice and go for the jugular.”
Lexi snorted, “Oh my god, she didn’t say that.” I confirmed, “She did say it didn’t work for her with more colorful language.” Lexi admitted, “That sounds like her. Why doesn’t she like the drop dead date?” I raised an eyebrow, “You. You are why none of this works for her. She wants you to be happy.”
She smiled and straddled me. She ground her hips into mine stating, “I am happy.” She threw my shirt off and kissed me. I kissed her back. I threw her shirt off and flipped us onto the bed. I said, “I love you, Lexi Scott.” She smiled, “I love you too, Chase Daniels.” I made love to her all night until we fell asleep in each other’s arms. When I woke up Lexi wasn’t in bed. I found a note.
Chase,
I ran to our fairy protected house. I’ll be back soon.
Love you,
Lexi
Ours? I loved that she called it that. I was about to get in the shower when the pack link went crazy. Everyone was yelling, “ROGUES!” I ran down the stairs not bothering with clothes. Nadine was at the door. I ordered, “Get Susie to the safe room!” Susie was trying to run after me. She called, “Be careful Chase!”
I shifted the second I was outside. Derrick and Matt were fighting beside me. I linked, “HOW THE FUCK DID THEY GET THIS CLOSE?!” Matt explained, “They don’t have a scent.” I took a deep inhale. He was right, and so was Haley. Witches did suck and bad witches did need to die.
We pushed them back, killing them. Nadine linked the pack, “I’m down. They took Susie. My legs…. SAVE SUSIE PLEASE! FRANK DANIELS, YOU SAVE OUR DAUGHTER!” I froze. I whirled only to be cut off by more rogues.
I linked Matt, “WHAT THE FUCK?!” Matt turned, “Did they just appear out of nowhere?” I yelled, “EVERYONE GET TO THE MAIN HOUSE? DAD, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?” He said nothing in reply. Fear hit me like lightning. Bolt told me, “We didn’t feel his link break, he’s alive.” That was true, but if he wasn’t answering he wasn’t able to.
I linked Cameron, “WE NEED HELP!” Cameron replied, “I’m kind of busy at the moment!” I whipped my head around as a black wolf appeared with four more. They were helping us tear through the opposition. I linked him, “Alpha Eric, they took my sister! I need to get to her.”
Alpha Eric replied, “I’d say Haley could get her, but Haley is in the Ribbon.” I asked, “The what now?” Alpha Eric huffed, “That will take too long to explain. The short version is Haley can’t help us right now.” I did not care for the Ribbon’s timing then. Whatever the Ribbon was.
When we’d managed to kill the last of the rogues, I took off for the main house with Derrick and Matt on my heels. Derrick linked, “Wait! Sally has her!” We turned towards Sally’s house. I shifted and grabbed shorts. Sally and Susie stepped out into the visible area. Relief hit me hard as I saw my little sister. I linked Nadine, “We have eyes on Susie. She’s fine.” Nadine sobbed in reply.
Susie was crying her heart out. I took her out of Sally’s arms, and Derrick went to Sally. I comforted my sister, “Susie, it’s ok. I’ve got you.” Matt linked, “Holy shit, look at that guy.” I looked up. Bodies were all around us with arrows buried in them. I quickly counted them. There were fifty dead rogues outside Sally’s place. One was viciously killed and hanging upside down on a tree branch.
Susie got my attention, “Mommy is hurt.” I linked Matt, “Where the HELL are our dad’s?” Matt answered, “I don’t know they aren’t answering me.” Coldness creeped into my bones again. Did the rogues get them? Were they kidnapped? Or down somewhere in the territory?
Susie cried, “They were so mean, Chase! The one guy grabbed mom by the hair just as she was about to close the safe room door.” I linked the pack, “Someone get Nadine to the hospital, and FIND my dad NOW!” Alpha Eric linked me, “We’ve gone to your brother’s territory. He’s being attacked as well.” I yelled, “FUCK!”
Sally gasped, “Chase! Little ears!” I handed Susie back to Sally. I told my sister, “Get inside with Sally. Do NOT come out unless I tell you to or Isabella does. Listen to Miss Sally until I get back.” Susie grabbed my leg, “The Black Arrow saved me, Chase. She gave me this.” She held up a necklace that was the Black Arrow’s calling card.
