Ted whispered, “They are bonded?” The man turned around, “Yes, Susanna is my bonded. I would never dishonor her by just having others call her a pet. She is much more. She is mine! Who hurt you, my Susanna?” Susanna winced, “I don’t know how to answer that.” She wouldn’t because Heath hadn’t yet given her permission to explain, probably because he was still thrown by the event himself.
I stepped in, “The former Lieutenant of the Hood, Noah Calvert. He was after his former string who rejected him. His ultimate goal was to have me taken to him.” Robert hissed. Chase and Matt came barreling into the room.
I rolled my eyes. We did not need a supernatural pissing match. I quickly explained, “Guys, he’s not upset with us, and he’s not going to hurt us. His bonded, Susanna, was hurt. He’s rightfully upset.” Chase asked, “Bonded?”
Robert hissed, “Yes, Alpha wolf. She’s my bonded.” Susanna put a hand on his chest, “Don’t be prickly. These werewolves are friends, Robert. Alpha Eric even made sure I wasn’t some vampire blood trafficker. They had your back.”
Robert said, “Alpha Eric definitely doesn’t care if you had blood on you. He’d make it go away and get you help if it was a problem because his mate cares for her.” He pointed at me. He continued, “She cares about you; therefore, Alpha Eric would do anything to make sure everyone was happy and his mate wasn’t upset. As for myself, I don’t care about my back. I care about yours.”
He turned to me, “Thank you for getting her my blood. It was you, right?” I nodded, “Susanna used her eyes to communicate morse code to me. I communicated to Ted. Joanie, Ted’s guard, got her purse. Ted got your blood out, and into Susanna while we distracted the warlocks. It was a group effort.” Robert hissed, “Warlocks?!”
I spoke softly, “Susanna, why don’t you get out of here with your bonded? I think you two need time together. You can explain the entire situation to him. If anyone has a problem with that, you can send them to me. I’m giving you permission.”
Susanna smiled and gave me the most awkward hug ever because our strings didn’t let us go. Susanna said, “Robert, Lexi even got me this former Hood member’s number, who has a vampire mate.” Robert looked at me. His face gave away nothing. Eventually he said, “Then you know King Matias’ mate, Miss Scott.”
I smiled, “Please call me Lexi. Susanna and I are friends. I do know Susan, I met her at King Arthur’s recently. I am sure she would speak to Susanna.” He cautioned my friend, “They decided not to have kids, Susanna. I will deny you nothing though. If a child is what you want, then that’s what we will do.” Susanna giggled, “You’re just the sweetest vampire.”
Matt snorted. Robert glared at him, “Problem, Beta wolf?” Matt responded, “Nope, just laughing about King Arthur’s second being called the sweetest vampire.” Susanna’s eyes were lit with pride. Ted’s and mine widened. Heath sent Susanna to seduce the second of the King… For what?
Robert said, “I’m taking you home dear one. I do have to be in court for a while tonight, and I need you by my side. Arthur is waiting outside for us.” Susanna agreed, “Then that is where I’ll be.” Robert kissed her. When he pulled away, he added, “You know I don’t mind you doing this catering thing, but you will have protection with you should you decide to do it again.”
Susanna smiled, “I’ll have to talk to Sally, and see what her plans are. It has been fun.” Robert snorted, “We have different definitions of fun. I will not lose you, my Susanna. I need centuries with you my dear. Not months. I waited for quite some time, and no one will take you from me.” I believed every word he said.
Susanna smiled, “It’s a good you were all weird about the whole me carrying your blood in my purse thing.” Robert smiled, “I’ve had a necklace made for you. It was charmed by a trusted witch that will carry my blood for you now. I am obviously right to be worried about you during my daytime rest. I will have my day man set up interviews for your protection detail tomorrow night.”
Susanna laughed, “You know I’m pretty kick ass myself.” I agreed, “She is. She’s deadly, that one.” Robert told me, “I sensed that about her the moment I found her. About a week before we saw you in that club. I even suspected you were the Alpha’s mate. Now, I see I was correct.” Crap.
I went to speak but he held up his hand. He said, “There’s no point denying it to me. I’ve been around a VERY long time. I know you are his.” Susanna gasped, “Lexi?” Chase growled, “Shut up, Robert!” Robert laughed, “You didn’t hide it well, Alpha Chase. You were ejecting everyone from the club that looked at her. Then you killed a wolf for touching her. All those actions scream that she’s your mate.”
Chase glared at him, “We are keeping it quiet.” Robert smirked, “I just bet you are, Alpha Chase.” Chase growled again. I cut in, “Susanna, he’s my string.” Susanna clapped, “Our core group is just finding their strings all over the place now! Isaiah needs to be next!”
I pleaded, “Please don’t say anything about me and Chase.” Susanna shrugged, “I spend my time with Robert. I barely go home. You know my family is not one for emotions. We aren’t close, and they don’t even know about my string yet.”
I kissed my hand and held it out to her, “I’ll keep your secret, and you’ll keep mine.” Susanna did the same and we high fived. She did a cross on her chest, “Cross my heart and hope to not fucking die.” I laughed, “Maybe Haley is right. This realm’s sayings are wrong. We improved that one in the Hood.” Ted agreed, “We really did. Who hopes to die? Or stick a needle in their eyes? That one is messed up.”
Chase warned, “Robert, we are keeping this quiet.” Robert said, “We don’t exactly gossip about werewolf problems, Alpha Chase. I mind my own, and you mind yours. Our King and I, myself, like the Fairy Hackura Princess. I was even manhandled by Alpha Eric the day he got inside the former King’s grounds. He demanded to know where she was, and I told him I’d never touched her.”
Matt chimed in, “You know, I’ve been wanting to ask you why you didn’t tell him where she was. He threw you like a ragdoll.” Robert laughed, “Because he needed to know I’d never touched her. He had murder in his eyes. I think werewolf and vampire fights are always fair, but that day Alpha Eric tore through more vampires than he should’ve been capable of for his mate. Werewolves are supposed to be weakened if their marked mates are taken from them. He’s clearly the exception. I told him the pertinent information that would keep me alive. That I had not fed from the Princess, nor had I harmed her. I tried to help her on a few occasions. Arthur then took him to his mate, and he left me alone.” Damn.
Robert added, “I even showed his brothers where his mate had been kept. If not for me, she would’ve been seriously injured without King Arthur’s care. Along with the tiny Hood girl I saved from being drained. She was quite brave.” I winced, Allie. We owed him and I was certain Heath didn’t know that.
Robert continued, “I got the Princess to Arthur when the former Vampire King cracked her skull on his floor. She may be little, but that fairy has spunk. I wonder if it’s the Hackura in her, but one thing I know is she’s a survivor.” Chase agreed, “She is.”
Robert smirked, “You do not want Alpha Eric to know about your mate. Why is that? She is friends with your mate. That is how we heard of Ms. Lexi Scott. She plans Arthur’s events now. Which I’m sure you know.” Chase told him, “That’s between us.”
Robert sounded amused, “You know he likely already knows.” Matt commented, “Thinking he knows and confirming he does are two different things.” Robert laughed, “Werewolf allies are strange, as are your politics. Time to go, my Susanna. Let’s leave the wolves to their weird games.” Susanna laughed, “I’m so happy for you, Lexi. You too Ted. I never got to congratulate you.”
Ted smiled, “Congratulations to you as well. I expect to hear ALL the juicy details.” Susanna laughed, “You had yourself a vampire for a bit there, Ted.” I bit my lip. Matt growled. He turned to Ted with pitch black eyes. Susanna shot Ted a wink. Robert laughed and led Susanna out of there as he teased her, “My naughty little minx.”
Ted patted Matt on the arm, “It was just a fling, babe.” Matt growled, “What vampire?” Ted teased, “Aww babe, I didn’t ask for names of your ex’s and one-night stands.” Matt growled, “NONE of the guys I dated live here.” I coughed, “Eric.”
Matt argued, “I didn’t date him.” Ted shrugged, “I didn’t date the vampire either. They don’t really date exactly. Before you ask, I wasn’t a pet either. Like a…. I guess their version of a booty call is feed and fuck.” I started laughing.
Matt growled, “WHO?” Ted sighed, “He’s not here anymore.” Matt growled, “You kept track of him?!” I stepped in, “He was a drifter. He checks in places but doesn’t stay around long. I bet you’ll meet him.” Matt growled, “He’d be dead.” Ted sighed, “We used to just hook up if he was in town. He’ll back off. He’s not a bad guy.”
I bit the inside of my cheek as Matt glared at Chase who shrugged. Matt dragged Ted away. As soon as the door slammed shut Mark and Joanie followed after them. I busted up laughing. Chase growled, “Have you been with a vampire?” I answered, “I actually haven’t. Have you?”
Chase pinned me to the wall. “No. Werewolves and vampires tend not to intermingle. They say we smell bad.” I laughed, “Well, no vampires for me either.” Chase growled, “So just angels.” My eyes widened.
