Ok, then. I said, “She’s not. I told you the plan.” Matt threw his pen and asked, “How the hell did you manage that after what happened last night?” Bolt huffed, “Because my human likes to bite himself.” I replied, “No, I don’t.” He snarked, “You could’ve fooled me.”

I told Matt, “I bit my own arm. It was not the first time, and I’m sure it won't be the last.” Matt tapped his fingers on the desk then said, “You threw Beta Alfred through the door over talking to her.” I stared at him then asked, “You think if she was marked, I would’ve had a nicer reaction? I would’ve killed him. It’s because she’s not marked that he’s not dead.”

Derrick commented, “That bodes well.” I stood, “Also, I didn’t throw him through the glass door for talking to her. He was a disrespectful shit about it, and he went after her KNOWING she was with me. He’s being an ass and we all know it. I’m going to get going.” They watched me leave.

It was getting really hard not to mark Lexi. I could do this though. I had restraint. I walked around the furniture store and picked out things I thought looked like my mate’s style. I had it all put in the truck I brought with me. Then headed straight to Lexi’s. She should be home soon. I unloaded everything and took off my shirt. Lexi, Kincade, and Kevin showed up minutes later.

I dismissed them and kissed Lexi. God, I’d missed her. Moving her things was only complicated because I kept getting distracted by the smell of her arousal. We ended up role playing, which I was all in for. After we were done Bolt pleaded, “Please mark mate.” I told him, “We will, just not yet.” He sulked in my head until we went to sleep.

When I woke up, I smelled candy in Lexi’s nightstand again. She was hoarding candy in that thing. She definitely had a sweet tooth. She must not know how good my sense of smell was, and that I’d caught onto the fact that she kept a stash in her nightstand. We both liked dark chocolate. Based on her list I knew I had smelled M&M’s in the nightstand. She must like the mini ones.

When I spotted her car I linked Matt, “The Vampire King knows where Lexi lives. DOES ANYONE NOT KNOW AT THIS POINT?” Matt replied, “That was loud. Good morning to you too. Ted and I ran into the Vampire King as he was returning the car to the office. We brought it back. The Vampire King does not know where she lives. Please find an ounce of chill.”

I retorted, “You find some chill.” Matt sighed, “I have chill. YOU have none when it comes to Lexi.” I argued, “Sure. Because you are chill about Ted.” Matt snorted, “More chill than you have been about Lexi.” I scoffed, “Keep telling yourself that. You ripped out a man’s HEART for him.”

Matt admitted, “True, but you’ve thrown MULTIPLE people through a sliding glass door.” I grumbled, “It’s a stupid glass door that’s not very well placed.” Matt groaned, “Yes, a wall would be better there. Then you could throw people through that.” I mused, “It might hammer the point home better.” Matt sarcastically replied, “Naturally. No one thinks you're crazy. That’s not a thing people think.” I said, “I’m not crazy.” Matt answered, “I don't think you are.” He paused then added, “Most of the time.”

I felt guilty I couldn’t take Lexi out in public. Bolt whined, “Mate is taking the blame.” It wasn’t her fault or Bolt’s. It was my naïve, dumb ass. She even offered a solution of my club as a date night. Done. I could give her that. I’d do anything for her and shutting my club down on a weeknight to have fun with our friends that knew about us was a very small thing. She left for work, and I headed back to the house.

Ted was leaving the house when I arrived. I quickly asked him, “What’s Lexi’s favorite flower?” Ted answered, “Red roses. Why is there a girl harassing me about paint chips and which color I like best? She’s VERY insistent I answer all her questions ranging from carpet, to paint, and furniture.”

I chuckled, “I forgot to tell you that I’m having an office space done here for you guys. My goal is that one day should you all want to have work from home days you can them. I told her to get your input on everything.” Ted clapped, “Well, my opinion has changed. I have to track her down and apologize.” I told him, “Get things for Lexi too. I want to surprise her.”

Ted evaluated me, “You really do love her.” I replied honestly, “More than anything.” Ted said, “Good. Now, off to hunt down this poor soul who was decorating an office with minimal TeleTed input.” Before he could leave, I told him, “I’m also putting you in charge of my costume for Beta Dylan’s wedding.” Ted clapped, “You are in such good hands. I love it around here.”

The week passed by quickly. Before I knew it, Friday was upon us. Haley had sent the witch I’d wanted to kill back to us. Apparently, she was ready to die. I killed her quickly because she looked like she’d been through the ringer. She didn’t know anything about Noah’s plan. I wanted to focus on other things.

For my date with Lexi, I’d already sent instructions to my staff. I wanted candles and red roses everywhere. They asked if I wanted flower petals too, and I decided why not. Ted was pacing in the main hall of the house when I arrived. I wasn’t sure why he was here. We didn’t have Wallace anymore.

I told him, “If you’re curious Wallace did give a name to Sophia. It’s one on her list so slowly but surely getting confirmation.” Ted answered distractedly, “Huh? No. I’m… I get anxious before Lex’s missions.” He could join the club. Or rather I’d be joining his club.

Ted rambled, “I know she’s great, and she’ll be fine. I just worry about these missions more because you know she’s killing someone; maybe multiple someone’s. They could fight back. We’ve got people trying to kill her while she’s trying to kill people. It’s all very complicated.” Ted kept talking.

I linked Matt, “Your mate is broken. Please come fix him.” Matt responded, “Uhh what? I’m coming.” I focused on Ted again, “She’s getting her cryptic texts from the Hood himself. She’s being all secretive which is weird. She normally tells me about these things. I normally know what she’s doing. My anxiety is so high right now. The only logical conclusion I can come to is it involves something with you people, and that’s why she can’t tell me. You said there’s some big thing going down. Why would she be involved though?”

My heart dropped. Lexi wasn’t lying when she said she had to miss the wedding. I knew that. She wasn’t going to be at Alpha Lucas’. That begged the question, where WAS she going to be? Matt came in and calmed Ted down.

The answer hit me like a knife to the gut, Cameron. Alpha Hammond was involved with this plan. I’d been worried about Sophia when I should have been worried about my brother. Did the Hood have information he would be attacked?

Ted left and I hurried to my office and called my brother. I didn’t even care that my dad was in my office with Derrick looking at me like a crazy person. Cameron answered on the first ring, “Chase, long time no talk. I haven’t decided about the pack….” I cut him off as Matt stepped in. He gave me a knowing look. He’d arrived at the same conclusion. I told him, “I don’t care about that. Well, I do. I want it all to work out. That’s not why I called. I think you’re in danger. You and your pack.” Cameron asked, “What?” My dad stiffened.

I explained, “Lexi has a mission tomorrow night.” Cameron snorted, “Believe me when I say I know. I’ve heard you have serious anxiety about it.” I ignored that, “Ok, that’s not the point. Ted was here and he mentioned she couldn’t tell him about it. That’s making HIM anxious because apparently she ALWAYS tells him. He pointed out the only reason she couldn’t tell him is because…”

Cameron interrupted, “Of his new affiliations. You think Hammond plans to attack me during the wedding, and that Lexi is supposed to stop it?” I pointed out, “It makes sense. His pride is hurt, and Alpha wolves don’t do well with that. He wants Luna Emmaline and his pack back.”

Cameron sighed, “I can’t miss the wedding. I’ll have to leave my Beta here.” I said, “We will send you warriors.” My dad chimed in, “I’ll come.” Both Cameron and I simultaneously said, “No.” I continued, “I need you here dad. Susie is so excited about her Halloween outfit and the party. You have to be here.” He reluctantly agreed.

Cameron and I hammered out details. How many of my warriors would be with him, and how many of his could fight. We were going to need more. I rubbed my face. Bolt linked, “It’s why we have allies.” I responded, “I know. Thank God we do.”

I called Alpha Eric. Beta Caleb answered, “Alpha Chase, How can I help you?” I sighed, “I need to speak to Alpha Eric, Beta Caleb.” Beta Caleb said, “He’s between meetings. I’ll grab him.” Alpha Eric greeted me seconds later, “Alpha Chase, this is a surprise.”

I didn’t bother with pleasantries. I explained, “We have reason to believe Cameron’s pack might be attacked tomorrow night.” Alpha Eric said, “That makes sense. I was toying with that thought myself today. What do you need?” I sighed in relief, “I’m sending him warriors, but I was hoping that you…”

Alpha Eric cut me off, “How many more do you need?” I thought through numbers then answered, “We have seventy-five with mine and his men. Not all of his men are quite up to the level of fighting we need.” Alpha Eric said, “I’ll send thirty of my men. I’ll put an additional twenty on the border. If they are needed my men will link them.” I’m sure he could hear my relief and gratitude, “Thank you.”

Alpha Eric reminded me, “We are allies, Alpha Chase. Should you need something from me all you have to do is ask. I know that’s easier said than done when you’re trying to assert yourself in the Alpha position. I am still a sounding board and mentor for you. I was once in your shoes at the stage you are in. You don’t have to know everything. We are in packs and have allies for a reason.” I wished he’d been in town when Sophia came to me about marrying her. He would’ve told me not to.

Alpha Eric continued, “If Alpha Cameron fell that would not be good for anyone. On top of all the reasons that would be bad, we can add that my wife would be upset. She likes your sister-in-law quite a bit. That in and of itself is reason enough not to let anything happen. It’s never good for anyone when she’s upset.” I laughed, “That will make Reagan happy. She wants to be your mate’s best friend. Thank you, Alpha Eric. For everything.” We hung up.
