I read the last line four times before I promptly passed out cold.
Worried
Chase stared at Lexi for several moments. Her logic confounded me. Noah HAD to be the leak. She remained silent while she showered. She might be trying to drive me insane. I needed answers. Eventually, she casually threw in that the demons were trying to kill her now.
I linked Matt, “Lexi is saying the demons were trying to kill her. I thought Kevin said she got hit in the shoulder and lung! I thought they were trying to wound her so they could take her!” Before he replied she dropped another bomb on me.
I snarled in my link, “POISON IN THE BULLETS! THERE WAS POISON IN THE DAMN BULLETS!” Matt replied, “I’d ask if you were serious, but Ted is on the phone with Heath. He’s filling him in. Ted’s to be armed at all times and on alert.”
I questioned, “Who’s on cleanup?” Matt answered, “Several warriors. You know your dad knows now.” I retorted, “He thinks he knows. He’s on about her being my chosen mate.” Matt scoffed, “Sure, Chase. He thinks she’s your fated mate now instead of chosen. Your rage and general disposition didn’t confirm it for anyone. No, this is all fine. Alpha Eric didn’t keep men away from our border for any reason whatsoever.” I ignored him while Lexi explained her logic. Which I did not care for.
I linked my commentary to Matt, “Lexi was leading the demons away from my two best warriors. WHO ARE THERE TO PROTECT HER!” Matt asked, “Can you find a little chill from somewhere. She is fine now.” I growled, “POISONED BULLETS!” Matt retorted, “Healing Fairy Princess.”
Everyone was beginning to get really annoying with their logic and facts. I didn’t know how to articulate that I wanted to be beside her fighting. I would’ve ripped apart the demon that had shot her. Instead, Alpha Eric and his pack did. I was still keyed up with no one to kill, and that was not good.
I was furious those demons were trying to kill her. She was my reason for everything now. She couldn’t die. Not before I could bring her to my side and we’d grown old together. We were supposed to be forever. I hadn’t begun to have enough time with her.
Bolt snarled, “IS HER BROTHER OUT OF HIS MIND?! He’s still sending her out after this? NO! Do something Chase!” I asked, “What do you want me to do? She said Kevin and Kincade can’t go. I can’t stop her.” Bolt grumbled, “Punch him in the face.” That I could probably do.
I linked Matt, “Is Ted still on the phone with Heath?” Matt answered, “Yes.” I replied, “Great. Would you do me a favor and have him ask if he’s OUT OF HIS MIND! Lexi is still going out on missions.” Matt sighed, “Joy. I see that going well for us all.”
Bolt was growling furiously, “Why is she worried about Alfred! I’ll kill that Beta wolf. MINE! SHE IS MINE!” Agreed. I was going to prove that. Bolt snarled, “I want to mark her.” I did too. I was going to be biting my arm again tonight.
Bolt whined, “Please Chase just mark her! Other people think she’s available she’s not. I need her to be marked as mine. I could KILL Alfred for trying to take her then. I might anyway, that prick. He’d know she was ours. Our scent is all over her.” He definitely knew. I reiterated, “We can’t mark her.”
Bolt whimpered but doubled his efforts bedroom wise. Bolt growled, “Mate is perfect and ours. Only ours.” Again, I agreed with him. No other man’s name was going to cross her lips during sex but mine. No one else could have her ever again. Not Noah and definitely not Alfred. Lexi Scott was MINE!
The need to claim her was so strong. I was fighting with Bolt as I buried my canines into my own arm again. Bolt was not happy with me or this situation. Most of his fury was directed at Alfred. Which did not bode well for the man if he entered my territory.
When we stopped, I explained this was Alfred riling me up. Which he’d have done intentionally because he smelled me on her. He’d also find her incredibly sexy because she was. I was fighting the urge to go hunt him down and kick his ass. So, what that he’d been an explosion? He needed an Alpha ass kicking to go along with it.
I linked Matt, “Be sure to inform your counterpart should he enter this territory I WILL REMOVE HIS HEAD FROM HIS BODY!” Matt replied, “I see we are still angry.” I snarled, “That useless twerp can’t get me my annulment and he’s asking MY MATE if he can be her tour guide. He smelled me all over her! I know he did."
Matt snorted, “Everyone with an enhanced sense of smell can smell you all over her all the time.” I retorted, “Exactly. He’s in for a beating if he DARES come into this territory.” Matt grunted, “Noted.” Good.
Alfred shouldn’t have said anything to her in the first place because he smelled me on her. Lexi defending him was pushing my buttons again. She didn’t understand he was taking a shot at me. It didn’t matter that we weren’t advertising that we were mates. No, she wasn’t marked, but he should’ve respected that I was clearly with her.
Before the annulment refusal on his Alpha’s part, Alfred and I got along. He respected me when I stepped up to marry Sophia. Now, he probably didn’t like me as much because Sophia was always upset because of me. Technically though, that was her fault not mine. She was the one who was wrong here, but as her Beta Alfred would be on her side.
I was going to plan a date for us even though we weren’t advertising our status as mates. Owning lots of things had its perks. I wanted time with just her. We couldn’t do Halloween but maybe it would settle Bolt. Then we could get through Beta Dylan’s wedding. Probably not, but I’d get a date in with my Sweetheart. Then our getaway would settle both me and my wolf.
We talked about the timeline. The word mission had my back up, but I was relieved my men could go. I linked Kevin and Kincade, “Christmas Eve Lexi has a mission you are going to shadow her on.” Kincade responded, “Bless you Alpha and the Luna. We will miss our grandparents harping on us about finding our mate. On another note, I’m not happy with the Luna for running away from us.”
I knew he wouldn’t be. I’d be pissed if I was him. I replied, “You can talk to her about it later. Bring a new car over with you in the morning.” Both linked, “Yes, Alpha.” I couldn’t stop my smile. On our getaway I’d have her all to myself and I’d be able to take her out without fear of running into anyone. No hiding, just being with my mate how I was meant to be.
We discussed Sally next. I wasn’t surprised their goddess showed Sally the path to lead her to accepting her mate. Derrick was completely convinced Sally was his. I knew Derrick wanted a litter of pups. So, it wouldn’t surprise me that Sally was his if they had at least six pups.
Thankfully, Lexi had already seen Heath. Bolt huffed, “He may not like us, but I don’t think we like him. I already wanted to kill him because he was sending her out on missions when people were trying to kill her.” I agreed. We respected him, but I wanted to throttle him on the regular.
I WANTED the leak after Lexi to be Noah. There was a tiny part of me that knew it wasn’t likely to be him. I wasn’t ready to acknowledge that yet. I wanted to blame him for all of this. I didn’t want to have a master puppeteer I couldn’t see coming for my mate. That didn’t sit well with me.
Derrick linked me, “Sophia DEMANDS to speak to you.” I answered, “Tell her I DEMAND an annulment. When she has those papers for me, I’ll speak to her.” Derrick groaned, “Come on, Chase! You are killing me. She growled at me and is very shouty tonight.”
I scoffed, “I’m quivering. Tell her I said to fuck off. I’m busy. If she has our signed annulment papers, I’ll speak to her; if not, then I’ll be available tomorrow. On a personal note, I’m not leaving Lexi unless the literal world is on fire. It’s simply not happening.” Derrick huffed, “When Sally’s back you OWE me big time.” I agreed, “Fine.”
I was not leaving her. That was not happening on any level right now. Bolt and I needed to be near her. Plus, this shit did not happen when we were together. I was considering becoming her permanent shadow. Honestly with her Beta being an ass Sophia really could fuck off. She really didn’t want to talk to me right now.
Lexi was teasing me, and I wasn’t stopping her. She was going to be my prey tonight. I wasn’t going to let her sleep. I wanted my smell all over her again. Bolt grumbled, “You could find some inner peace if we’d just MARK HER!” I closed him out. He was right, but we couldn’t do it.
