Chase sighed, “I have a mating ceremony and reception to go to on Christmas Eve for Alpha Lucas.” I groaned, “Man! I’m missing Emmaline’s wedding too. Damn it!” Chase asked, “Can my men go with you on that mission?” I distractedly answered, “What? Oh, yeah. That’s always a simple gather intel and get out kind of a mission. They can shadow me; it won’t be a problem.”
Chase looked seriously relieved. “So, we have a date Friday and a getaway planned.” His smile was contagious, “It seems like it.” Chase said, “We won’t have to hide from anyone on our getaway. I can take you out without fear of being spotted together.”
I questioned, “Where are we going?” Chase nuzzled my neck whispering, “I want to surprise you.” I giggled, “I love surprises. Not to change gears but Derrick, should he be Sally’s mate, will be pleasantly surprised when she returns.”
Chase laughed, “Will he? Why is that?” I smiled, “She had the same dream I did. Then she talked to our goddess. She showed Sally their life together but told her she had to accept him, or she’d take the other path we both saw.”
My voice broke as I said, “Noah would kill her.” Chase growled, “No one will kill Sally.” I explained, “Sally intends to accept Derrick if he’s her mate. I didn’t tell her who we suspected because she wants to be surprised. She might just jump him. She saw their kids, and she’s always wanted to be a mom.”
Chase commented, “That will take him by surprise. He’s prepared to go at a glacial pace. He’s got a plan and everything. I’m happy for them both since Derrick is convinced she’s his.” I shrugged, “We will find out soon enough.”
Chase grimaced then said, “You should call your brother. He shot past me at our border with Alpha Eric trying to get to you.” I told him, “Bjourn brought him to see me. He was a wreck. He’s looking into the possibility of the leak not being the Troll. I am slightly sorry about the amount of bodies I dropped in your territory.”
Chase shrugged, “Don’t be. It’s already being handled.” I could swear someone helped me, and even called my name. No, that was crazy. I was drugged. No one helped me. Chase pulled me back into him. He whispered, “I could smell your blood there at the P.O Box office. When Kincade told me you’d been shot….” He broke off and I felt something wet hit my shoulder.
My string was crying, and it broke my heart. I pulled back and looked him in the eyes, “Hey, I’m fine.” He nodded. I watched him as his eyes looked offed into the distance. I theorized, “You look like you’re having an argument with someone.” Chase snorted, “I am.” I asked, “With who?” Chase smiled, “Derrick is on the phone with someone who wants to talk to me. I told him to inform them I’m busy. He keeps letting me know when Sally is back, I’m going to owe him.”
I frowned, “You could go take your call. I understand that’s how things work sometimes.” Chase put his arms around me, “I don’t think so. My beautiful mate tends to get in trouble if I’m not around. Old marks from past missions pop up like a bad case of annoying fairies we don’t like.”
I swatted at him, “Hey! I handle those things. Plus, Haley would be sad you don’t like her.” Chase held up his hands, “I know that you do. I would just rather be by your side as you handle it. If I’d have been with you; you wouldn't have been shot. I can hear a shot being fired. Also, I do like Haley. She’s changing everyone’s opinions on fairies.”
I reminded him, “You couldn’t come with me. You had things to do, and your men were talking to your favorite person alive apparently, Alfred.” Chase growled. I could feel him getting hard beneath me again. I got up off the bed and backed away from him. I teased, “That really just gets you going, doesn’t it? Don’t tell me women don’t flirt with you, my big bad Alpha.”
Chase backed us up into a wall. He whispered in my ear, “I think someone wants to pull an all nighter again. I’m going to claim every inch of you, Lexi Scott. You are mine!” I smiled. I’ll be damned if Haley hadn’t cracked the code to passionate sex.
Of all the people in the world, I just had to laugh at the irony that it was her. The girl who wouldn’t let anyone touch her grew up into a woman that gets her freak on all the damn time now. Add to that she does it enough to share secrets about getting wolves hot and bothered. Peak irony.
Chase growled and his lips crashed into mine. He didn’t let me go to sleep all night, just like he said. Not that I even wanted to. We were crazed, and only broke apart to shower. I came out and surveyed my room. It was a serious loss.
I commented, “I’m going to have to buy new furniture.” Chase smiled, “I own a furniture company. I’ll have things here to replace everything. I’ll move it in by myself.” I snorted, “Oh no you don’t. If you’re going to move things around, you have to do it tonight when I can watch you. Preferably without your shirt on.” Chase laughed, “Deal.”
We walked outside. I sighed realizing I still didn’t have my car back. Kevin and Kincade were standing beside a new borrowed car with sour expressions. I turned to Chase, “Are you sure you want me to borrow another car? I seem to be bad luck for vehicles as of late.”
Chase kissed me then said, “You didn’t do anything to your car or mine. I’d rather someone target the car than you. Cars are replaceable.” He kissed me again then added, “You are not.” I asked pointed at Kincade and Kevin, “What’s with the sour puss twins over there?” Chase laughed, “I told you they weren’t happy you ditched them. Have fun with that. Ted will be late to the office again today.”
I asked, “Alright, why?” Chase smiled, “Secret pack things.” I teased, “You know when I join you all as your Luna, I get to know these things too. Is there a secret handshake?” Chase roared with laughter. He told me, “There isn’t, but if you’d like I could make one up for you.” I teased, “You should. It will make everything feel official.”
He traced his fingers over the spot where my neck met my collarbone. I shivered feeling the need to run back inside and beg him to sink his teeth into that spot. WHOA! That was a strange urge. Chase seductively said, “My mark right here on your neck will make it official.” He kissed the spot and forced himself back.
I clenched my hands at my sides, digging my nails into my palms so I wouldn’t beg him to make it official. I wasn’t sure I was ready, but I was definitely getting there. Chase chuckled, “You’re so tempting.” I scoffed, “Me? Do you see yourself?” Chase smirked, “You have no idea how badly I want to make you mine.”
I raised an eyebrow, “I believe you did, all night and this morning.” Chase smirked, “That’s not what I meant.” I smiled, “I know but I am yours, Chase. All yours.” He kissed me. “Have a good day. Good luck with Kevin and Kincade.” I huffed, “You could help me with them, you know?” Chase smiled, “You didn’t leave me in the dust. That’s for you to sort out.” I reminded him, “I was protecting them.”
I heard snorts of derision. Everyone was feeling petty today I see. Chase tilted his head, “Their job is to protect you. They take their jobs seriously. They are my best warriors.” I nodded, “I know they are, but I needed Haley though. Remember? They don’t have magical healing hands.” Chase kissed me again, “I’d go that route with them. Good luck!”
I stuck my tongue out at him as he shifted and ran away. I sighed. Kincade opened the passenger door. I pouted, “I don’t even get to drive?” Neither of them said a word. I rolled my eyes and got in the car. Kevin started the car and Kincade jumped in the back.
It was painfully silent. I wanted to roll my eyes, but I didn’t. Instead, I said, “Ok, let’s just go ahead and talk about this.” Kevin looked in the review mirror saying, “At least warn us you are about to take off. I had to leave Kincade behind to follow you.”
I frowned, “My intention was to take the demons away from you guys. Not for you to follow me. They didn’t want you guys; they wanted me.” Kincade turned to face me, “You are our Luna. Our Alpha has us protecting you, not the other way around.”
I pointed out, “I needed Haley to heal me because I’d been shot.” Kincade winced, “I’m sorry we were too far away to tackle you so the shooter would miss the shot.” I gently told him, “That’s not your fault.” Kevin chimed in, “Either way warn us before you run away.” I compromised, “I can do that if you two wipe the sour puss looks off your faces. It doesn't suit either of you.” Both rolled their eyes. Kincade huffed, “We will try.” Good.
The silence the rest of the way to the office was comfortable instead of filled with tension. I got out when we parked and walked into work. All the items we’d ordered for the Halloween party for the kids in the pack had arrived. I sorted that quickly approving the decorations as I viewed each item. Everything was perfect, even the candy.
We had a few other Halloween set ups we were doing, but all would run themselves. Ted came in and we worked side by side. The day passed by quickly. I told Ted I had a date Friday. To which he said we HAD to go shopping for. I assured him I had plenty of outfits. He was not happy.
Ted sighed. “Fine no shopping. Be sure to check your closet for the perfect fairy outfit again.” I laughed, “That does sound like something Haley would do.” We went our separate ways. Kincade handed me the keys. I smiled and jumped in the driver's side.
